I am dog sitting for my mom's two maltese this week. Just wanted to share a picture of Tucker. He is 8 months old now. He has such a gorgeous coat. It's so thick and it just hangs down flat. When he isn't brushed it looks like dread locks, I think we need a different conditioner for him (any suggestions?). He is quite hyper and mischievous, however he has become my shadow very quickly and loves to be in my lap. He has to wear a belly band, because he is being very naughty here with all these girls around him. I am determined to teach him a few manners this week, he is VERY verbal and his high pitched barks and squeaks are too much! The last picture is of my son having a ball with all these furballs (notice my yorkie is telling Tucker off, she doesn't like him much!)

Jodi, what pretty little furbabies, and the skin kid too. haha! I notice that someone has the black center part line on the nose like Sassy. (Hope that makes sense).

I forgot to answer the question about the conditioner. duh! Silk makes a conditioner that is wonderful on Sassy's coat. She too has thick silky hair. There are actually two different one so make sure you get the white one, the almond one can leave a residual color build up over a period of time. I have found that any conditioner has to be rinsed and rinsed and rinsed some more. Funny thing is that if I left conditioner in my hair it would be even silkier, but with Sassy it makes her hair grabby. Sometimes I think Sassy thinks I am rinsing her hair off of her body because we rinse so much.

Yes he has the darkest pigment I've ever seen. All the way down his center part on his back and his toenails.

Where do you get the conditioner? I'm thinking of trying the chris christensen system, have you tried that?

I am not aware of the Christensen system tell me about it please. I buy the Pet Silk at a local store called Provet. It is a supplier for show people. No fancy store front or anything. I also found a website tonight that list many, many websites for almost anything canine that you can think of. PetSilk.com was listed and their website has a phone number. They might be able to tell you the name of a supplier near you.
My experience on grooming is that one must do a lot of trial and error. What is good for one coat might not be good for another. Especially puppy coats.

Here is the website link http://www.chrissystems.com/
It is very popular on the YorkieTalk board, particularly the ice on ice spray and the day to day shampoo. Many people rave about how silky their yorkie's coat is after using it. Since maltese have a different texture, I just wondered it it worked as nicely on maltese. I think I will try it out atleast for my yorkie. Now that I think about it I have heard of Petsilk. And I think I'll get that too and see which I prefer on which one dog. I have also heard a lot of good things about Bless the Beast products from another maltese board. Have you heard of that?

No I haven't heard of the Bless the Beast products. Sorry! I only participart in one other Maltese forum and they are so strict. Will not allow product names, websites or anything like that. I must have experimented with 10 different products before I found what works great on Sassy. She has very think soft silky hair. I have to be very careful and thoroughly sinse her.
