In the newspaper today they had an article about a new collar from www.petsafemicroid.com. The Micro I.D. Rescue Collar is a high-tech gadget that has an USB flash drive hidden inside it that can store vital information about your pet. It records the pets name, your phone number and vet records. If your pet gets lost and someone finds him/her, they can plug its collar into a computer's USB drive and find out the dog's identity.
If someone doesn't have a computer they can call the toll-free number to the PetSafe Rescue Service that's on the collar. The collar costs about $40.00.

Sounds like a good idea........of course, I have had both of mine microchiped and so like the collar........you are counting on an honest person that finds your dog, to be willing to return the dog. When you microchip, they give you a tag to put on the collar that shows an ID number and a toll free number to call. Then when the call is made to that number, the company has all the information on the dog and the company is responsible for calling you as the pet's owner! So I guess it is similar except that it cuts out the middle man (the microchip company).

So thanks for sharing as this is a great alternative for those who do not want to have the microchip procedure done on their dog.

Jack is microchiped also. I agree that you have to hope that the person who finds a lost pet tries to return it to its owner.
