I read this in our sister forum and thought it might be informative.

Here's the link if you do purchase Blue Buffalo (DRY FOOD)

http://news.vin.com/VINNews.aspx?articleId=16468

I hope it's just dry since mine love their wet food.

Oh God thanks Jessica!!! Great information!!

Lucas was on BB. dry and canned food for 3 or a little bit more.. ALL chicken, have never gotten the "Wilderness" he was on small breed and chicken pot pie canned food! But switched everything with some homemade cook and "Wellness" dry food!

GOOD POSTING

Just thought I would take a portion of the article and post it here to clarify the BB food.

Richard MacLean, vice president of business affairs, says one thing is certain: Test results thus far have shown nothing unusual about the product’s formulation; amounts of calcium and vitamin D, in particular, are within the company’s specifications and well below levels that might be considered toxic. The company’s focus has been on Blue Buffalo Wilderness Chicken Recipe, manufactured in April 2010 with a best-used-by date of July 2011. Vitamin D toxicity, or hypervitaminosis D, induces bone loss and abnormally high serum calcium levels, which could result in kidney stones and the calcification of organs like the heart and kidneys if left untreated.

Thank you so much for this information. And, Carol, thank you for letting me know since I feed Chloe the chicken mini breed. She has not been sick (knock on wood), but I need to investigate this some more.

I never would have known unless for MT :wink5:

I've never liked Blue Buffalo food. Petsmart pushed it on me when I first got my two. I was told it was the "Best" food I could ever give my dogs. We'll, they couldn't even chew it...they soon refused to eat because it was so hard for them. I took it back and exchanged it for a different one. Finally, I've settled on Wellness small breed and Stella and Chewy's....They LOVE to eat now. :)

I don't use BB kibble, but I do use the canned......which after I run out of the cans I have, I am going to strictly feed home cooked food and nothing commercially made. :)

That sounds great idea! I'm so thankful now that I cook for Lucas.. I know what it's on his food!:)

Oh, i didn't mean to give you the impression that BB is bad at all!! It's a good product!! I am just going to eliminate all commercial foods out of their diet and see how that affects staining and their health. I have been adding just a teaspoon of the BB canned in the morning and at night as a sort of glue for the home cooked food but figure I will use something else like flaxseed oil to hold it together. There is absolutely nothing bad about BB canned in my opinion. :) :)

I hear ya girlfriend.........that is one of the reasons I switched to the home cooking for my fluffs PLUS Toby being sick on commercial food, I HAD to change. :) :) But I have no regrets! :)

I switched to Wellness Core, and ONLY wellness biscuits and small chunks of trimmed, boiled chicken for snacks. I don't trust many commercial brands anymore!
