Well bad news. I have posted before that i've been fighting with sofia's allergies. Changed her diet and nothing. Gave her benadry, nothing. Well today i started brushing her and saw like a patch really red and it looks raw like a scrape and i think my poor baby got a hotspot. I don't see is infected since is recent i will say yesterday night and today. I put aquaphor on it and the redness went down a little bit.
I was trying to see if i can hold it because i am moving with her to puerto rico next week and i was going to take her there. But i don't want to wait. Oh and then the past week i felt her coat extremely dry and i thought maybe was me. Nope my cuzin came today and told out of the nothing that her coat feels dry.
I am so sad and wish i wasn't in this situacion. Im making a call tomorow to a new vet to see if they can give me some kind of credit card so i can pay it with that.
When i had the money i remember i asked my vet if she thought there was somehting wrong with her skin, because i new it was dry but she didn't even checked. They only thing she told me with an attitude was to buy at the counter a frontline because fleas can cause itchynes, but i know it wasn't that because i have only found 2 fleas in her in the past 6 month. I was dumb i should have change the vet.
So yeah tomorrow i will let you know how it went.
I know i read here not to give steroids to dogs. I am just going to be careful in case they are going to give her that. I am so sad and worried, i just want to cry.

Poor Sofia.......she has really had a time with these allergies......hope you can get to the bottom of this and find an easy solution that maybe another vet will detect and fix the problem.
Hugs to you and Sofia. Please keep us updated.

I have a new tip. Hopefully this will help those who are having problem with coats. Sofia like i said before, had extremely dry hair. So dry that even if i brushed it would still look like i didn't even touched it. So came across a website that state how good is apple cider vinegar is for a dog hair. I thougth it was silly but i was so desperate i tried it anyway. MY GOD is super super soft. I am not exaggerating is really soft. She is completely normal now. Still itching but no as before. But it has decrease.
I had a little bit left of ice on ice and i threw it. I clean the bottle and filled half water and half ACV.
I am thinking is environmental because we are around 10 hr in my room and is closed, plus i have 8 trees in my backyard so i am guessing that is making it worst. Also our house is kind off old and the holes lol (i dont know the names) where the air conditiener comes out is extremely dusty. I change her diet and nothing so right now that is the only thing i am thinking off. I changed everything i was doing. I dont light candles, i remove the febreze plug ins and today i will mop the floor with vanilla and Cinnamon hehe intead of harmful chemicals like clorox etc.
My dad is getting an air purifier from the VA hospital and i will see if that will work with the dust.
So for those having dry skin and hair try it. I not saying it will work on everyone but in Sofia horrible dry coat it worked.
Oh and i gave it on her food too. here is the link http://www.earthclinic.com/Pets/acvfordogs.html
I have a question.
Does who were giving ACV for their fluffs tear stain, do you have allergies problems too?

I almost forgot: I was giving her squash and now i changed it to carrots. I read carrots are good for inflamation so i thought that would be good for irritated skin. Another thing. She had one hotspot sunday and i put aquaphor and calamine it lowered the redness, but i notice monday night she had another one the top part of her neck. Well i did the ACV, next morning she didn't have it anymore, it was gone.
Good luck...

Thanks for the information! I know ACV is great for a lot of things but never thought to use it on hot spots or for the itches!
GOOD POSTING!!!
So glad to hear that Sofia is doing better!

Thanks, so far her coat is glowing. Super shiny. Can't even believe it. I will say the itching has decrease to a 90%. Of course is too early to say she is 100% cure because i have been doing it for 2 days, but i will say in a week i know she will be better.

Quick question.. Is Sofia on a flea preventative?? I know for me we tried everything for allergies and for months her itching would get better then get worse with everything we tried. And it turned out to be fleas. I had her on Frontline but switched to Comfortis after having bad results with the Frontline and it helped alot.
I know you siad you've only seen two fleas, with Mitzy I would RARELY ever see them so I didn't think it could be fleas, but fleas are constantly jumping on and off our babies and because they are so close to the ground the fleas may be jumping to and from the ground to Sofia. Fleas could also be causing her red spots if her skin is really irritated.
Also wanted to add that the steroids are ok for a short time, but not a life long solution. If your vet suggests using them to rule out certain allergies its ok to have Sofia on them for a few weeks to see if it helps her itching, just not to use forever ;)

No i never had her on Frontline. The vet told me that her itching might be that but i thought she was trying to rip me off. I thought since she is always indoor (i have a backyard with no grass lol so i never let her outside) and i have found in the last, i will say 3 month just 3 fleas. I thought it wasnt that. Should i put her on it? I will go to petco tomorrow. Which one would be better? They also have one called advatix, something like that.
One question, when Mitzy had her itching did she scratch when sleeping. Sofia sleeps all night with no problem. Is just during the day specially around 7pm.
I made a mistake of lighting 3 candles at the same time with my door close. And when i turn them off lol they start releasing that black smoke and it would take the whole room. Now, before, i would light one and nothing happened just scratching and runny eyes, but now that i light 3 she got extremely itchy and her coat got really dry.
This is so confusing, i'm just trying to tackle every single detail i can. Im going to buy the flea preventive. Just to make sure. Thanks

Because you've actually seen fleas, yes I would get her on a preventative. With Mitzy ONE bite can cause her to itch for over a week. If you can, either from your vet or another, find Comfortis I personally think it was the best. It doesn't treat anything but fleas though so if you want tick protection I would go with Frontline. But I like Comforits because its actually a pill not a liquid that you have to put in the hair. Also start vaccuming maybe every couple of days. A flea can lay hundreds of eggs and the larvae actually can't be killed so best to vaccuum them up and get them out!!
Fleas are SO frustrating but the preventative should help.
Mitzy never itched in her sleep and actually if you read some of the old threads I posted about her "allergies" (I used to think it was food or enviormental too) she would itch it seemed more at night.

For itching might want to try Neem's it's all natural ad is soothing or Schriner's Herbal solution (This will stop her from bitching at it also)
We use the horse one on the dog's a little better result's but we have ton's for the horses its a staple I would not go with out http://www.schreiners.com/
One place for Neem http://www.arknaturals.com/product.aspx?pid=350
I am so sorry she is having a hard time, wish I could think of something else for you. Also might with try call your local vet school. Our's is not cheap at all but the best care there is around with ground breaking research and still very cost effective and its a bunch of view's rather then just one. From when have used them it is same price as local vets maybe a little cheaper but I do recall if they have a study on somethings can get discounts at times.
Best wishes I just am at a loss right now on what more to do ((hugs)) Also would do what Jess said. Max is super sensitive to stuff and now doing really well since the vet switche dhis food and things around.

No reactions from Frontline although she did have a reaction to K9Advantix.. I didn't like the Frontline because I still found fleas on her!! I applied it monthly and used it for 6 months and got so frustrated  I finally switched to Comfortis and havn't looked back :) The only downside is it doesnt treat for ticks
