Such cuties! Yes, I have found the other site as well, thank you. I actually found that site when I brought little Misty home. I am not a big poster (actually wasn't on much for a long time, the 2 legged babies don't appreciate it when Mom gets on the computer, lol). But now that the youngest has started school, it gives me time to find new friends here and on the other site as well. I am hoping to find out all the little tricks you guys use to keep those little faces so white. I have started him on yogurt daily (read somewhere that helps, anyone know if it does?) Thanks for the welcome!

Glad to have you here :D
I have a maltese named JiJi and a yorkie named JiJa I also have a ? named Lil' Man.
I have tried almost everything to keep her face white but to no avail. What does disminish her eye gunk is washing her face with Spa Facial Scrub and I clean the eye area with contact solution (yes to clean human contacts). Most have luck with other remedies but not in my case :(
Can't wait to see pics.

Well thank you. I just bought that scrub (just came back from the pet store) after reading about it on here. Keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't get any worse. It is not to bad, but with school starting up and what not, I kinda let his face go. Doesn't take long before he starts looking, well let's say not so fresh, lol. I may try the contact solution too. He is going to the groomers next week.
Oh and thanks for friending me.

Hi Bobbie and Welcome to Maltese Talk!!!
I have three maltese and a yorkie.......I'm also on YT as Morkie4. :)
I do give mine a teaspoon of yogurt every day........the organic Greek type from Stonyfield.....but I also do a lot of other things as well so I really can't say "exactly" what is helping with the staining but it is improving all the time. But I do wash their faces and keep them clean and dry and that goes a long way to keeping their faced stain free!!!!
Again welcome to the forum and I look forward to getting to know you and your fluffs better in the coming months. :)

Hi Bobbie and welcome to MalteseTalk from Texas. :)
I have the only black Maltese in the universe! Her name is Tinkerbelle and she is actually a 4 yr old Yorkiepoo but she doesn't know that so please don't let it slip.:wink5:
I'm fortunate that I don't have to worry about tear stains - for Tink it's all about the ears. What are they - Yorkie or Poodle - we don't know so we take turns with the grooming. LOL! :D
Looking forward to pics of your furchildren!

WELCOME TO MALTESE TALK!!
I'm Jess and I have a 3 year old morkie, Mitzy, and a 3 year old Weimaraner, Jake!! They are my babies :hearter:
Well like Jessica (Jiji's Mom) I have not had much luck with tear stain remedies. I don't do anything special anymore just clean her eyes daily. I will usually wash her face in the morning to get the "overnight gunk" off, brush the fash to dry and redo her topknot. Then she gets a "lunch" of wet food which makes her face dirty, so I will stick her in the sink and wash her face with the Spa Fresh Facial Scrub to get the tear stains and any leftover wet food :p Then in the evenings we do our big daily grooming in which she gets brushed, topknot redone and face brushed out again to get any gunk/goo.
For the staining now there isn't much you can but let it grow and trim it every couple of weeks until its gone. The Facial scrub may help lighten it but won't remove it all.
I think most of us here can say we struggle/struggled with tear stains. Unless you get down to the real reason of staining (food, allergies, tear ducts, etc.) there isn't much you can do but try your best to keep it clean and dry ;)

You have such a pretty family :hearter:
And don't worry about the face stains, sometimes they get worse than other times. What I ended up doing is cutting most of her facial hair to remove the red tainted stains. I'm also a student plus a mommy to 3 skin kids so I know it's hard to alway's keep up with their faces. There still gorgeous in my eyes.

Welcome! I have a one and a half year old Maltese baby named Emma. She's my first dog ever and has it been an experience!! As for the white face, I do several things and I'm not sure which if any works the best but I've had very little trouble with staining so I keep doing what I've been doing just in case! I use the Spa Lavish facial scrub 2-3 times a week, I give her a spoonful of Greek plain (unflavored/unsweetened) yogurt once a day, she drinks bottled water from stainless steel bowls, and I let the hair around her eyes grow out instead of constantly trying to keep it trimmed (when it would start to grow out each time, it was poke right into her eyes and irritate them). Beyond keeping her face clean and dry, I think a lot of it has to do with genetics - she didn't even have staining when she was teething and none of the other pups with her breeder show any signs of staining either. Good luck!

They are beautiful dogs, even when they get a dirty face. I have love having the two of them. I am not too stressed about stained faces, just was wondering what I could do. I am so greatful to have all my furbabies!

Here is what winter is like. These are from last year. The pups don't get to stay out long in the snow they get cold fast. However they sure enjoy it when I let them. Then the come in for a warm bath and snuggle:) My skin kids love it though. Specially the two little ones. The one up to her chin in the snow is my youngest. My oldest spent a half hour burying her in the snow, lol.

Cute names! Misty was almost a Tessa. My husband works up on what is called the slope (not sure why they call it that) in a village called Barrow. That is as far north as you can get. But we live just north of Anchorage.
