I am just wondering why there are so few posts here on Maltese Talk? I find it a much more friendly site than Yorkie Talk. If I get in trouble for saying that, I'm sorry but I find that unless you are part of the clique that all seem to know each other you don't fit in and it doesn't take you long to feel that.
I have been on there several times when a newbie will come on and ask a question and the regular yters just ignore it and no one answers it. It has happened to me also and it isn't a nice feeling. This time of the year it's all about secret buddies and that is a time when I hardly go on the posts as I don't fit in. I'm not saying everyone is like that but there are alot. Also, if you express an opinion that the regulars don't agree with you are pretty much run over. I could go on but I've probably more than made my point. I direct most everyone to this site. Keep it up and lets get some more people on line and lots more posts, then maybe we can be a clique too!;)

I usually check MT a few times a day and reply when I can. There isn't a huge member participation, you're right. I've never felt like an 'outsider' though, although many people here have been friends for a while, so that needs to be taken into consideration. The only time i really 'disagree' with someone is when someone is breeding haphazardly - that tends to get me going.:D

Honestly I don't know why MT never took off big, but I like it that way now. I have been on bigger forums and the info and some other stuff is great, but it was just not for me anymore. Nobody made me leave the other forum, I just got sick of some things and decided it was not for me anymore. MT is just where I want to be, it's small and like Stacy said I have friends here that I know for over and coming up on 5 years. I enjoy YT also, but I know what you mean .I think on any forum you are going to find obnoxious down right rude people, but there are the members that are kind and helpful and that is what you have to take into consideration. Everyone has their own opinion, I was never one not to express it, but some people are followers and just go along cause that is what they know. Stay at MT and enjoy it, you are a nice person and fit in here great :D Like they say big is not always better :D

I have to make it clear that I was talking about YT when I said it wasn't a real friendly site. I too really like Maltese Talk I have always gotten my questions answered and most everyone is friendly. I can post a comment and not worry about getting sniped at.

Oh sorry! I misread the post.

I recently just joined Yorkie Talk because I had found a lost yorkie that i was hoping I could have someone help me with and got a 'eh' reaction. I figured it was because i didn't have a yorkie. But there were a few members who went out of their way to be friendly and I appreciated that!

Since it's a bigger community you get a piece of everything. I believe many of the ladies there are so tired of answering the same questions they just say stuff without considering other peoples feelings. And it's true if you are not known your post might get ignored since there are no juicy drama along with it. But there are plenty of helpful nice ladies that understand there are many points of views.
One time I saw my question being answered like 15 post ahead but someone was nice enough to answer :)

I prefer MT but do occasionaly enter YT, if something does bother me I just ignore since I'm not much for drama. I do have to admit I have found tons of information there so I am very grateful to them. Oh and I found my Lil' Man on YT :D

I thought it might have something to do with Yorkies being a more popular breed than Maltese - I think Yorkies have been in the top 2 or 3 on the AKC list the last few years and Maltese are more like 20ish. I know lots of people with Yorkies (including my parents!) but aside from Emma's breeder, I only personally know one other person with a Maltese. It's amazing to me how many people ask me what breed Emma is when I take her places.

I do not post as often as I used to her on MT, but that is just that I have been sooo busy. I do try to come on a few times a week and check what is going on.
I have been on a lot of forum, not just Maltese ones, and I find that most of them have "gangs" that seem to be running the forums and they do indeed make it hard for newbies to fit in.

As well, most "drama queens" have moved on so.:D

Not only are the people here nice, warm and friendly but I do think the moderators have a lot to do with how it is.:hearter::hearter::hearter:

I joined Yorkie Talk first although I had a maltese first! But then I came across Maltese Talk via YT and well the rest is history. I've been around for a while and have seen some great people just get to busy to post and that is understandable in this world we live in. I find it very relaxing and enjoyable to meet different people, their opinions and their knowledge in different areas, not just maltese talk. But one of my favorite parts of MT is the sharing of pictures of our fluffs. Looking at our many fluffs just puts a smile on my face and who doesn't need a smile these days???? :)

I have been on other forums but I guess Maltese Talk is "MY HOME." I just feel I "belong" here and I've met a lot of great people that have become close friends and like family. Thanks to everyone that comes and makes the forum what it is today. :hearter:

I agree with everyone that MT is great! I never go on YT anymore as I feel the same way as several of you do. I like that this forum is not as busy because I feel we can all get to know one another better here. Even though I'm still new to this forum I feel like I'm part of the family and that everyone genuinely cares. I've been through a lot lately with all my dogs and not just my Maltese and everyone here was so helpful. It didn't matter if it was my Maltese or not and that is really important to me!

That's what I love about MT too. I can talk about my other pets and everyone responds just as kindly and helpful as they would if they were maltese :)

I agree. I love MT, Ive browsed other sites and it seems like if someone asks an innocent question then certain members gang up on the person and make them feel unwelcome.. I looked at a bunch of posts when I was bored and browsing the sites and noticed its the same people ganging up over and over...Im like *really* wow lol. Anytime I need help or have time Im on here browsing and Ill try to help people with their situations Ive heard of or went though that might be of some help to the op. I also love seeing new pics and the fun things are babies have done...I think everyone on this site is sooo nice and Im proud to be a member!!

There aren't all that many guys. I do know that much...

But for me it doesn't matter if I'm the only guy on here. For me this is all about my lil pal and his fluffy lil breed-mates.

Shammi swept me up into the Maltese breed (which honestly I had never even noticed existed before). Now I'm a fan of the breed in all its forms, coat lengths, and tear stains.

One of the most enjoyable facets of Maltesetalk for me has been sharing in the pictures and stories other owners tell about their little fluffs. They're as priceless as the time I get to spend with Shammi when I'm home.

Guess all in all I really have been Sham-Wowed... But it has left me with the ability to say (and to proudly proclaim!!!):

J'aime mon Maltais!

I totally agree! MT is a much more friendly site than YT. I knew two people who left YT because of the harshness. It's really too bad because it's suppose to be a site to learn and share things about your furbaby, but it turned into a "you aren't welcome unless you always agree with us" kind of site. :( I too noticed that YT has more posts. I think that YT doesn't refresh theirs as much as MT does. Maybe we could ask admin to leave the posts up all week before refreshing the page. I often miss a bunch of them for that reason. I think that would help with getting more new threads on.... What do you think???

I LOVE MT!!!! I'm glad you've found a place where you feel, you belong. I do hate that feeling of being ignored or "one of the outsiders." But this forum is so friendly and very informative! My first day on here people already befriended me with open arms. It gives you that wonderful welcoming feeling inside!! :hearter: I'm always so excited to come on here and reply to people's posts and help in any way i can, like people have helped me. I find myself just browsing through people's threads and getting the info on there myself and replying with a thank you. Nobody here seems snobbish at all.. in fact, these people i swear you could be friends with in real life! That's how wonderful they all seem. :hearter:

Honestly I prefer MT & have come to appreciate the community of malty lovers and admirers we have here. These groups of women are so funny, generous, & resourceful. I have an account for Tessa over at YT but we are hardly ever on there, as it has too much traffic for my taste. Here I get a chance to learn a bit about everyone and their fluffs throughout the forums & people are just so darn friendly and welcoming, which makes MT totally approachable. From a long days work, this is a nice breather for me & I enjoy what everyone has to say and manage to get in a good laugh. This place is our second home and we :2hearts2: it, I give it :thumbup::thumbup: & 4 :paw:'s up from Daisy too!

I know I started this thread a while back and love the replies that people have posted. MT is truly home for my babies and me. Most of the problem I had with YT was when they found out I had a Morkie. Then most of the replies were in regard to the breeders breeding these dogs that were mutts and were not meant to be bred together. I kind of laugh now at how many people like me that have Morkies and adore them. As much as I love my little Maltese I wasn't in a position to get one at that time. A Morkie is refered to as the best of both breeds. I can't testify to that but they are wonderful loving little dogs who love their families and are a joy to have around. Belle saved me after I lost my Abby and she holds a very special place in my heart.
I did make a few friends on YT but nothing like here. You are all like family to me, a family that I don't have anymore and it feels so good to know you are there when I need help or just have something I need to talk about. Thank you all so much for being so wonderful, I love having a new family:)

Well, I for one, am glad you came over to MT and are here to stay with the "family" of MT! I feel very much the same as you do about Morkies. Sometimes they will breed them on purpose as many have put the "designer" tag on them while some are accidental breedings. But regardless, once someone owns a Morkie why slam them or question them about the who, whats, whys and wheres regarding the puppy. The fact is, little Belle gave you what you needed and is a dear little fluff that needed you. So have no regrets and enjoy the love and attention from your fluffs. I don't own a Morkie but if one was in rescue (and the hubby agreed) I would not have an issue rescuing the fluff.

Again, I am so glad that you are here on MT. HUGS XOXOX

This makes me SOOOOO MAD!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:
How dare people judge others who love and are proud of their fluffs!
What do they suggest people do when they fall in love with a MORKIE!!!!OMG!!! Loving a MORKIE!!!
Leave it there as it was a bad thing the breeder did and you should not encourage them? And what else? Maybe all MORKIES and other "Designer dogs" should be euthanized as you find them?

And let's not forget bashing the owners of these fluffs. We cannot allow them to be amongst pure bred owners!!! Imagine that! Allowing "those" people on your forum and even more allowing them to talk proudly about their fluffs!

Instead of bashing people who have a "Designer Dog", maybe these people should look in their own backyards. How many of their "breeder friends" are really ethical? How many of their "show breeder friends" really breed for the good of the breed, which ever breed they have? How many of their "show breeder friends" really breed once or maybe twice a year?

I could go on and on but I think I will get off my soap box and just say I am happy you are here!:hearter:
