I haven't been on maltesetalk for awhile.
I am considering whether to get another yorkie or maltese after I graduate, which will be at least another year.
My question is, how do you guys keep your babies paws clean and white after walks? I had a maltese for a couple months, but had to rehome him because he needed a family with only one dog and a yard. :( It was a difficult decision, but I'm happy though because he is now in a happy home.
I have two yorkies and find the maltese to be vastly different from yorkies. I understand that maltese are higher maintainance, but how do you keep them white and unmatted?

I'm sorry you had to make a hard decision but I'm sure his very happy at his new home.
I'm not the best person to answer that question since my baby has eye stain and she's matted most of the time. Her paws seem to be quite clean thought.
Welcome back !!!

To keep clean: Bathe every two weeks. The paws will dry off and keep pretty clean after walks...or you could always dip them soapy water afterwards, but usually they'll dry off and stay clean(in my experience at least) To keep mats at bay: Try a shorter cut and brush daily. :)
Good luck with your decison...keep us updated:)

To be honest its hard and takes time. I take Mitzy on walks everyday and to the dog parks alot. The dog parks are the worst and I always take her on bath day because she always needs a bath after we get home. There is one park literally within walking distance of my house, which is super convienent, but I never go to because they have red gravel and Mitzy comes home PINK!! When her hair is longer I have to be sure to brush everyday. And when I don't have the time I always cut her very short becuase she will mat with just a missed day of brushing.

Welcome Back!!
I always brush Lucas hair before and after a walk! So he doesn't matted! And I wash his paws! If you have trouble with mats I recommend to you "Cowboy Magic" it is really easy to work with mats!:D:wink5:

Without sounding preachy: BRUSH DAILY has always been my motto for keeping a fluff matt free and it does work. Good grooming tools are also essential to get the job done without causing stress to the fluff and keeping a good coat.
I don't walk mine outside of our yard (we have a stroller for "my" walks:o). But washing them with a mild doggie shampoo after you walk them will help with the dirty feet look and if that doesn't work, there is a remedy/mixture of water, conditioner and believe it or not that dry cleaning solution but for the life of me I can't remember the name of it right now but it is in a white bottle with blue writing.:confused: I used it when I first adopted the fluffs to get their feet "white." It works but isn't for every day use or even once a week as I am sure it will damage the hair.
