Yipeeeeee. She's finally here! If you have followed the saga of my little fluffballs, you can see the happy ending after our originally selected Maltese got ill. We decided to bring home a maltipoo instead and today she arrived safe and sound (and healthy). I hope the picture link works... If anyone knows how to do the thumbnails instead, please let me know. The pix are on smugmug...

Thanks everyone! I breathed a sigh of relief when we got her at the airport! It all went so fast. My DH went in, showed ID and they shoved this cute pink crate at him and said, "have a nice day." So we just left and brought her straight home. She did well her first day but was shaking and scared for about 2 hours. She did manage to pee on the carpet last night even though we gave her potty breaks all night.
Then she slept through the night! That was a total miracle. I think she was sooooo exhausted that she didn't have energy to whine. LOL. We put her in her crate in my walk in closet upstairs since she really seemed to get attached to me yesterday (I played with her for the first 2 hours when she was scared). I put in her mamma's blankie and one of those warm up toys that someone on this board suggested (THANK YOU!). Put a towel over most of her crate and then turned off the lights. Next thing I knew, it was almost 7! WOW! :hearter:
Today is a bit more difficult. She wants to play, play, play and is whining right now as I have her in her crate. Sigh. She really, really needs a nap but will not sleep when she's out playing with my daughters. However, she doesn't want to be crated. I am just doing housework and ignoring her but she's been whining for like 45 minutes now. I am sure she's EXHAUSTED but can't turn off.
The vet is coming in like 10 minutes. I will ask him what to do. Otherwise she's eating well and drinking and playing with everyone and everything. She seems friendly to all, which is good. I can't wait for the vet exam. I am so worried because of what happened the little Maltese we originally picked out. Although Ginger seems 100% healthy and happy.
More later! Happy Saturday.

So happy to hear she's doing fine :D
I have never heard of someone isolating their pup in a closet  Is there a reason why? Mine are not crated so I'm a little ignorant to that.
I would let her play all she wants so she can be exhausted at night. There so full of energy when their pups. May I ask how old she is?
Bet your girls are the happiest little girls ever :D

Congratulations!!
She really does look like a Ginger, it fits her pefect!! And what a doll she is :hearter: It sounds like she is settling in pretty well and enjoying your family. Be sure to take LOTS of puppy pictures they grow up TOO fast.

Crating a puppy gives them a place to go that is all their own, like a den. It also helps alot with potty training and teaching them to control their bladder muscles. I crate trained both my dogs and highly recommend it. Its hard at first because some do whine, Jake picked it up immediatly and loved his crate but Mitzy whined alot but now she doesn't mind the crate at all. It also makes it easy if you travel, its like taking their bedroom with them  The comforts of home.

My breeder also recommended that we keep her in a kennel to sleep at night (and during the day for breaks from the kids, although she really doesn't want to be in there and away from us even though we have a kennel in the living room set up). She recommended putting the kennel into the bathroom to train her to hold her pee. We felt better having her in my warm closet and she did great. During the day she's less motivated to be in the kennel though and she's had 2 accidents today running around downstairs. We have got to get her a play pen today and keep her in her "den" so she doesn't pee everywhere.
Off to Petco! K

Well, Gingy is turning out to be a pretty smart cookie (get it, Ginger - cookie :lol2:). She already learned come and as of today she's scratching at the back door to go out to pee. We did buy a 4x4 metal play pen set up for her so that definitely helps.
My only trouble is that she really doesn't like to sleep unless she's either right next to me (I mean her little body pressed against my legs on the couch) or while I am holding her. She whines a LOT when I am in the room but not playing or holding her. And when she's out and about the living area, she's constantly at my feet.
We are talking HUGE attachment here. I am wondering if this is something I should worry about? I am off to work tomorrow so it's DH or nothing for her. :D I hope she doesn't cry all day!
Any thoughts, or is this just normal for day 3?
Katherine
She will be fine while you are at work. You just wait, that first rush at you when you come home will be worth a million bucks.
My gosh she really is breathtaking beautiful. The coloring, the proportions, the stance and bright eyes are great! and let me second that choice of name..so appropriate.

I know what you mean!! I'm sure she is going to be fine as longer someone is with her. When I first got Lucas and I left him in my room with all his toys water and food and he knew my in law's were here he didn't stop crying until they came to the room and take him with them (spoiled! I know:o) So since thn he stays with my in law and the love each other! And when all we leave the house I know he keeps thinking somebody are going to take him out of the room because when we come back a lot of his toys are in the door:(:hearter:!! Good luck with Ginger! she sounds like a great girl!!

Thanks for the kind compliments and words! She ended up having a great first day with DH (he works from home so she was in her play pen for about 4h in the morning and 3h in the afternoon). She did great and didn't whine or cry after the initial 5 minutes or so. She also slept through the night again last night (HURRAAAAY).
By the time the girls got home, she was ready to do something different so they took her on a nice walk. Then they played with her and when I got home from work, she was all pooped out again. LOL. She's snoozing next to me on the couch right now.
Funny though because tonight she was all about my DH! I guess whoever spends the most time with her is her BFF for the day. :lol2:

So the saga continues with poor Ginger.
She tried to climb out of her metal play pen that we bought and she caught her little paw in the metal lattice. :( DH called me in a panic yesterday that she was screeching in pain and broke her leg.
So off we rushed to the vet for xrays. Turned out she did not break anything (thank goodness) but she had a bad sprain and needs meds. She's running around today on 3 legs! She was up 1/2 the night crying though, I am sure out of pain! UGH. I hope to actually get some sleep tonight.
I really hope that there are no lasting effects on poor Ginger's legs, like arthritis or something.
Thanks everyone for all of your support. Any advice is much appreciated. In the meantime, we are getting a different play pen for her, one that she can't try to scale. Sigh!!!

:( Oh no, poor baby. Isn't that just like a baby though. I'm glad she didn't break her leg. Maybe she needs a big metal crate with a top on it....she sounds like a climber. Can the vet give her stronger meds so she...and you can sleep?

Aww poor Ginger!! Hope she's feeling better! Maybe you need to get her a play pen more high??
About your girls taking her for a walk I wouldn't take her until she has ALL her shots!! Hopefully she has all of them so she can enjoy going for a walk!:wink5::D

Oh dear, poor little Ginger!!!Glad the leg was not broke though. I am sure she will be just fine and the leg most likely since it was a sprain not give her any trouble down the road!!! I agree with Susan........I enjoy reading all about "The Adventures of Ginger." :)

Oh no, poor Ginger! Emma was a climber too as a puppy. I was afraid to use one of the ex-pens with an open top because of her climbing, and she literally chewed her way out of the collapsible, mesh kind, so I ended up getting a gigantic metal crate (I swear, you could fit a couple Labs in there!) instead. Securely locked, no trying to climb out, yet plenty of room for her to run around and have her bed, potty, food, water, and toys during the day... I hope little Ginger is feeling better soon!
And I agree about the walking - I wouldn't let those cute little paws touch the ground until she has completed all of her puppy shots. (maybe she already has - I've lost track of how old Miss Ginger is!)

Poor Ginger! I hope she heals fast, thankfully just a sprain, and not broken leg!
My ex pen has a door on it. When I first got Vincent, in he went, and I always used the door. Never picked him up from the top. I wanted him to know the only way out was thru the door. I got lucky. :) He never once tried to climb it. That saying.. I lent that same ex pen out to a friend with a new puppy. Told her to always use the door. And guess what? Her pup climbed.
Thankfully never got hurt, just free run of the house!
Your Ginger sounds like a real sweetheart. Enjoy her!!!

ROFL! I just ordered the 30" high metal play pen for her and I swear my 100lb Berner could not get out of there even if she tried. So I guess Ginger will have fun trying to scale that mountain. The 24" ones are going back to Petco. Sigh.
Ginger's leg seems better today (she can put weight on it). And she slept through the night again, thank goodness. Here is to a full and fast recovery.
OH and yes, she's had all her shots. She's 14 weeks. Now if only she would potty train herself already. ;)
