Well my Sofia got infested with ticks and i spend around 1 month taking babies tick out of her. It turned out that the house was infected, because a dog from the street use to come into our lawn.

(Sadly, Puerto Rico is one of those country with a serious problems with tons of dogs at the streets, and no shelters)

Well by a miracle a friend of mine had a frontline and i put in on Sofia on the 12 of november. Well it stop to a point that if i saw one it was dead. BUT yesterday i found the most nasty thing ever. It was green, huge and alive. It left her a mark of the bite and she bleed a little. I cleaned the area. But today i found one but it wasn't big as the other one, but attached to her.

Does frontline work like that. Letting them hope on and the killing them later.
It says it works for a month and it hasn't pass the month yet.
Did anyone had the same problem?

I don't think I ever had a problem with ticks. I remember a friend of mine saying there's a special tool to remove the ticks so there heads won't be left in them. I will e-mail him and see what he uses. His in Europe but hopefully they sell the same stuff here. Sorry Sofia:(

I don't know how bad Puerto Rico is but if it's anywhere as bad as Mexico I feel really bad for those poor animals.

Oh dear....poor baby....to remove, I flip them over onto their back, the tick, and use tweezers as close to the skin as you can get, and pull straight up...the head always comes out with that move! I've removed alot from my Grandsons...playing outside....and a couple from my last baby...Poohbear...good luck...don't know for sure how Frontline works on ticks...sorry..........can't help with that one...

i found a tick on Snow once right on his tail where he kept on trying to bite and scratch. So i told the vet and he suggested advantix (advan-ticks).. He also suggested to give him the drops every 3 weeks instead of 4 since he said it weakens a bit by the 4th week. Ever since then I never found one on Snow and I check every week since he gets weekly baths.. I keep his groomer notified too to make sure she keeps an eye out and so far she's told me he's been fine and she hasn't seen any. He doesn't scratch that much either. =) They have one for dogs under 10lbs. Hope that helps!

I think that is the problem, because its been 3 and 1/2 weeks and i never found one during the past tree. So that mean i have to apply it every 3 instead of 4. Maybe on week 4 it will kill the tiny ones, but not the huge ones. Those things are so disgusting.

Thanks everybody..... :awink:

Aww poor Sofia!!:(:(:(:( I've not idea what you can do but maybe to can go to a pet store and buy some medicine for your yard and around the house! That's what my vet told me when I went to get some flea medicine that I needed to treat my yard too because having just the medicine of my pets the fleas could still jump on them! Good luck!!!

I have heard of other areas with tick infestations but hopefull the cold weather will help get it under control.

When you have that bad of a tick infestation, you have to make sure the house is empty of the, the yard is cleared of them and of course using something on Sofia even if it is for a short time or they will keep coming back AND reproducing unfortunately.

Hope things are better by now with the ticks! :)

We did spray the indoor and out with Phermetrin 10 but i dont think it was that strong. The problem is my neighbor have two dogs (they live outside and never get bath since she is 85) and a couple of days ago i saw one of them and it was cover in ticks.

So i have a battle with outside dogs and my neighbors. Right now is under control but not eliminated.

I think as long as you keep Sofia on a monthly tick control the neighbor dogs shouldn't be an issue. You might want to have an exterminator come and see what they can do. Usually they have you leave the house, with Sofia, for a few hours because the chemicals are dangerous.

I've never had an issue with ticks, only fleas, but I know they are nasty creatures
