My nephew, Adam, is currently on the 8th month of his second deployment in Iraq. He is due home in January. I got an email update from his commander today, and in the letter the commander said that morale is stressed because of the amount of work and the hours they have to put in. He said that things are going well as far as the war, but the troops are mentally dealing with issues from home when they should be resting. I have said all of that to ask, if you can, please take a minute each day to ask God to take care of these young men and women who are putting their lives on the line each and every day to help insure our freedom. Thank you.

P.S. Adam has a wife and young son at home who need him to return safetly.

We're all very proud of Adam and what he is doing for our country. I hope his family is well at home and he can concentrate at the job at hand so he can come home safely. We'll all thinking of your safety, Adam and troops!

Thank you, and I will pass the info on to his mom. I know she appreciates all the prayers and warm wishes from everyone. We almost lost Adam when he was in high school. A car wreck and he was thrown from the vehicle. The doctors said he would not be alive when his parents got to the hospital. He was in ICU for months with massive head injuries. That was about 7 years ago and he is still with us and even made it into the military. He has come too far to turn back now. He is a brave soldier. Both at war and in civilian life.

:D Bailey had a great idea of forming the Maltese Brigade to the rescue of troop morale. We can send cute funny, playful pictures of our Maltese to your nephew in care of you and to other service members along with a rainbow ribbon. Each ribbon has the name of a Maltese on it for the troops to wear. If the Maltese and service member live close enough, on their return home, they can visit each other. Before the military member leaves Iraq, he/she will pass the rainbow ribbon to someone else. Rainbow ribbons represents Rainbow Bridge. :)

Sounds good to me. What do I need to do?

I made a sample card as one idea. It may be too complicated of an idea.

Sassy's Mommy,

What about using a card? We could each put our dog's name and e-mail and either snail mail to you or e-mail. Then you could forward to you nephew.

I go overboard sometimes--this is just one idea. I carry pictures of my Bailey in my wallet and people run when they see me coming with more Bailey pictures. I'm a proud mother thanks to Cathy.

I want another Maltese but I have to wait until my 32 year daughter is well. She can't get control of her addiction. So please keep her in your prayers too.

Diane, This looks like a great idea! I'm a little snowed under today, but let me think on it for a day or so. I will also mention it to Adam's mom. I know Adam loves animals and he would not be embarrassed to carry a little Maltese picture. Heck, his son sent him a coloring book and crayons so that they could exchange pictures. He said at first he thought the guys might laugh at him, but he has gotton no flack whatsoever. Cole also sent his daddy a Nerf football. The whole platoon has enjoyed that little ball. Sassy sent a frisbee in our last package to him. Funny how little things can mean so much when you are so far away.

My brother (who resides in Ft. Walton Beach) works for BAE. He works all over the world and is currently in Egypt for six months. We IM and email everyday. Ken is there by himself this trip with no other co-workers. He only works a few hours each day so he gets a little bored. He and I sometimes chat an hour at the time.

How long have you been in that area? About your breeder. I have known Cathy for 30 years. She is a very nice person. I have never seen Cathy's doggies. My mom lives about 10 miles from Cathy. I should try to see them sometimes when I visit.

We have lived in Niceville for 32 years. We liked the area when we first moved here, but now it's all cement and cars. There are worse places so I am grateful for what I have especially Bailey.

Diane,
I spoke with Adam's mom tonight and I was surprised to hear that the email from the commander did not reflect the true circumstances with our troups. She said that the tension is running so high that the guys are on 24/7 adrenalin. Said the guys are in fear for their lives at all times. Things are really bad. Anyway, I told her about our idea and she kinda nixed it. She said that if even one of the buys laughed or made a slight comment about the little white doggie that someone might get hurt. I just want Adam to come home safe and not in a bag. I think the idea you had was a great one; however, I guess I will pass for the time being. Will you please still remember Adam in your prayers? Thank you.

Sassy's Mom,

Absolutely, I will remember Adam and others in Iraq in prayer. I can't understand what they must feel since I have not personally been through what they are experiencing. I just retired from the Air Force Civil Service and part of my job was making sure the personnel and cargo from Eglin AFB arrived in Iraq by way of a software database. It was hard to watch the airman process through long lines that involved shots, proper paperwork such as power of attorneys, wills, and the last stop was the Chaplain to discuss any issues on their mind. If you hear of a unit in Iraq (33rd Fighter Wing or the 96th Airbase Wing—Air Force), they are from Eglin.

We should have all our Maltese gather with us every Sunday night at 7 P.M. Central, and send a united prayer of hope to the troops.

My father is retired Army and as a teenager, I remember the stress of not knowing if he would make it out of Vietnam in one piece—he did and was only shot once in the leg.

I designed a web page in memory of Kobar Towers bombing back in 1996, so please keep their family in your prayers too.

Diane,
Thanks for understanding. Debbie said that Adam seems uneasy this deployment, talks about possibly not making it home because things are so unstable. He was stabbed in his thigh during the first deployment but not serious. We just want him home safe. Thanks for your prayers.

Diane, thank you. I just told my brother today that god did not help Adam survive that terrible car wreck just to have him die in another accident. We are trusting god to bring him home safe.

I'll be thinking and praying for your Adam and his entire family. I know first hand your concerns. My son..also an Adam spent a little over a year there. His deployment was up in Jan and now were waiting to find out when he goes back for his second tour. The soldiers are working under unbelivable stress long hours with rarely a day off to rest. They may work 16 hours a day 7 days a week. And they do fear for their lives..were not talking about a war thats front line. No matter what they are doing..eating, sleeping, walking, driving, etc they at risk of being shot, hit by IED, mortar, suicide bombers etc. My son told me everyday he woke up over there he thought that this could be his last day, this could be the day he could die. I can't imagine living with that day in, day out. Of course on this side of the world we have the same fears for them..but I would never tell him that.

Those are Adam's almost exact words. It is not a fun place to be.

Dear Diane,
Thank you ever so much for your kind words about Bailey. It was a joy for me know he has such a good and loving home. You can't know how much it means to me to receive the photos and know how proud it makes me too. I carry photos of mine all the time. Your precious daughter will be in my prayers also.
Pat I will surely be praying for Adam and his family. I do think the cards are a good Idea. I don't want to scare you but the most awful thing I have had to do is attend my son's friends funeral a few weeks back. He was a very smart young man class of 2000 same as my son. Joined the military to help with his education and because it seems like what small town young men do to get out of the traps they fall into sometimes. He had really grown up, and like you said I could tell he was so frightened from the letters he had written over there. He was due home in September. His funeral was in late July.
So yes I will pray and everyone needs to support anyone they know. God Keep him in his arms and protect him. Give his family the strength to see him though.
God Bless,
Cathy

Cathy,
Thank you for the words of encouragement. I am sure that Adam would appreciate all the prayers. His goal right now is to come home safe.

Our afternoon news yesterday aired a story about a local 20 yr. old who has been killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq. As another poster said, it is not the normal front line stuff, but the terriorist and stupid stuff that is going on.

We got word yesterday that there has been a major mishap. The platoon (7 guys) came upon a road side bomb and 4 were killed and 1 was severly burned. We do not think Adam was badly wounded, no definite word yet. We know he isn't dead. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear this. When we have loved ones over there we live in constant fear that they could be injured or worse. It's very hard to get thru each day without having those thoughts. My youngest son is going to talk to a recruiter today..don't know if I can handle having 2 sons in the military at this time. I'll keep your Adam & his comrades in my thoughts and prayers as well as all the family and friends whom love them.
