I am pretty new to this forum so if this is not the right section for my question please let me know. For the past couple of days my 10 months old Maltese behaving strangely. When pooping in the yard, he runs during droppings. He obviously does not enjoy the process. Does your dog do this? Just wondering is this normal or do I need to get it checked out?
Thanks in advance.

How do his stools look?? Loose, firm, somewhere in between?? I only ask becuase when my girl has loose stools combined with long hair the poop sometimes gets stuck and she runs around trying to get it off. Could that be an issue with your little guy??

Not a vet but has his glands been checked lately? No idea but that could be a cause for him to feel "pressure" and not very comfy while going also. Just a thought. Hope he is alright.

Hey is your maltese related to mine
JiJi does not stay still while pooping no matter how her stools come out. She squats drops walks a few feet drops and on and on tills she's done. I tried holding her still and she hold it till I let her go so I just let her be.

Emma does that, too! She's good about staying on her potty when she's in her ex-pen, but otherwise, she "scatters"...LOL

Belle is from "star trek" she has cling-ons! I trimmed her little tush but she is still convinced they are after her so she drops and runs. She comes scooting out of the den where the pee pad is and keeps looking behind her....gonna get ya Belle:lol2:

I have two maltese that drop and run. It's almost as if they are glad to have the poo out!!!! One of them proceeds to run a short distance and then does the "toro" dance everytime she goes poo. Tooooo Funny!!!!! Now my third maltese, she will freeze in that position until I come over and check her out to make sure it dropped and then when I tell her it is oka, she simply walks away. I guess they each have their own little way of dealing with elimination!
I would only be concerned if the poo didn't look normal or they scoot.......it could be a sign of problems.
Welcome to Maltese Talk
Both of mine run and drop, run and drop. I think it is like what has been mentioned, they are trying to keep poop out of hair and dang if they don't keep it out!
