Cozette will go in two hours from now to get spayed-- I'm so nervous! She's such a small little girl, and all the scary stuff I've read about liver shunt and whatnot just adds to my nervousness!
Tonight was a rough one, so I'm on edge anyway. We took my daughter's Pom to the Emergency Vet's tonight and we ended up having to have her put down. She was having trouble breathing that just kept getting worse, so we took her in and they did x-rays. The poor thing had cancer in her lungs, so of course we did the right thing and helped her cross the rainbow bridge. That was so heart-wrenching, even though we knew it was the loving thing to do. I'm pretty upset that the vet office we go to wouldn't see her yesterday, even when they were told she was getting short of breath. I'll certainly talk to my vet about that when I take Cozette in.
Anyway; I'd appreciate your prayers and good thoughts for Cozette today.

I am so sorry to here about your daughter's pom..........it's never easy to let go but I am so glad that you thought more of your little pom's needs than your own emotional needs.........it takes a brave and loving person to know when to let go and help their fluff to rainbow bridge.
I will definitely being thinking about Cozette today as she has her surgery. I am sure she will be just fine but the waiting is soooooo hard!!! Positive thoughts and prayers for you "both."

Can you help a lazy one? It looks like you did alot of research before this surgery. Can you give me pointers?

This is a quote from Dwerten a while back
"agree make sure to have blood work and urine tested prior to anesthesia - make sure they use a cat tube or smaller so no trachea issues. Make sure they use propofol and isoflurine and that they have iv fluids and catheterization and that at least two people in room - one monitoring and that it is a licensed vet tech monitoring while vet does the spay. Since mvd and liver shunt runs in this breed you want that lab work done before just in case"
She wrote thing better than what I could have.

So sorry about your daughter's loss. It is hard to put them down. That sure does not help with Cozette's spaying today. Sending out good vibes for her and a quick recovery.

Everything went great! I was a basket case, and they didn't call til 2:00 p.m. (I had taken her in at 7:00 a.m.), but though she is obviously sore and sleepy, she is doing well. I insisted they send me home with pain meds and boy I'm so glad I did. She needed them last night and again this afternoon, which is not unexpected. She's sleeping in my lap now (I'm on at work on break). My hubby wasn't going to be home this morning and I wasn't going to leave her alone, so I packed her up and took her to work. Everyone loves her here so when we don't have clients scheduled they haven't minded (I work in a law firm).
Thanks to everyone for their prayers, good thoughts, and well-wishes. And many thanks too for the condolences on the loss of our Pom-- she grew up in our home--my daughter just moved out in October, so I still consider her "ours".
