Trying to decide whether to keep trying to find a shampoo and conditioner that will work for Chipper (he mats very easily and has fly away sort of poofy hair) or to just pay the groomer to bathe him twice a month-any suggestions?

I try to do all my own grooming - although sometimes i mess up a haircut too much and have a groomer clean it up for me.
You can try some human products, that may work well for your Chipper. Some human shampoos/conditioners I've used are tremsemme, Dove Go Fresh, Garnier Fructis Sleek and shiney, Herbal Essence Drama Clean. Then if they dont' work well, i give them to my kids to use

Why not ask your groomer what shampoo they use.

Debbie,
I hate giving Nemo a bath it takes so long :( and especially now being pregnant it is getting hard. I take him every 8 weeks to be groomed, but I may just take him every 2 weeks to get bathed. Hope you find a solution..

I would love to be able to send my 2 to the groomer every week to be bathed, but unfortunately, it's a little too expensive so I bathe them myself. I love the Pure Paws line of shampoo and conditioners. I also use some human conditioners like Stacy suggested. In fact, today was bath day at my house and I used the Dove Go Fresh conditioner on them and they smell so good!!! Sometimes it takes a while before you find the right products that work on your pup! Good luck!

My groomer charges 54 dollars for grooming which isn't bad, I only do it every 2 months. For a bath it's like 20 bucks, but I agree it is expensive :( but me being pregnant and my baths being so deep that I have to bend a lot, I just can't do it no more :(

Emma's groomer charges $35 for full grooming - I'm not sure what it would be for just a bath. I usually take her every 7 weeks to be groomed and then give her a bath or two myself in between. In the winter time, her paws rarely touch the ground outside so she stays clean for a long time. I wash her face and "spot clean" as needed but she can go 3 or 4 weeks without a full bath. In the summer, it's a different story! If I were you, I'd probably keep trying to find something that would work at home versus having to make a trip to the groomer every couple of weeks. Have you asked them what they use?

Oh, how exciting!! Congratulations!!!! When I saw "patiently waiting for my new arrival" at the bottom of your siggie, I wasn't sure if that meant a fur baby or a skin baby!! :lol2: Is this your first baby? I can't say I blame you for having your groomer do the bathing....that's $20 well spent!!!!

Lucas groomer charges $46 dollars, full set! If you can afford paying twice a month and if give you guys benefits do it! But if not! I'd look for a shampoo and conditioner and brush him more often per day! :)

Debbie, I have tried just about everything.......Just about! There are a lot of products out there but NO MIRACLE products. Brandy was our Puffy gal and it didn't matter what I used on her, she stayed that way UNTIL I grew her out. She is still a little puffy but not nearly as bad.
I would try some of the suggestions that Stacy gave you.........but if you have the money to spend, then send him to the groomer and save yourself some time and trouble of bathing him yourself.
Glad to see you back on the forum!!!!:hearter:

Right now Jasper is using pure paws and I really like it.. My main concern and worry was that he might have an allergic reaction no problems with allergies, he does better on that then anything we have tried.. it conditions his hair pretty good ..we dilute the shampoo according to directions and the conditoner with warm water half and half .. he has a somewhat cottony coat and matts soooo easy its frustrating... lol but this seems to work pretty good .. i wont say I love it but I really like it..

I think this is a great idea!! :) I know for me switching shampoos to often makes my hair crazy!! So maybe using the same shampoo as your groomer will help keep the hair in line ;)

I have tried several different shampoos and conditioners on Belle. My problem with some of them is the strong smell. I can't stand anything that smells too much like strong perfume. Now I use a baby powder scented shampoo and conditioner and really like that. I also bought a new shampoo and cond. that is lavender scented. Haven't tried it yet but Wednesday will be bath day.
Belle has kind of cottony hair that mats easily and Sammy is really silky so we'll see.
I'm with you guys and your boys, I have four and there was 14 years between my youngest and the next oldest. Kept hoping for a girl but now I have 3 beautiful grandaughters.

Thanks Stacy. i was always afraid to use human products but it is good to know these are ok to use and you are right, with a 13 and 19 year old I am sure one of us can use the shampoos if they don't work for Chipper.

Congratulations Andrea! There are 20 years between my oldest and youngest. mine are 33, 31, 25, 19, and 13. I was 42 when my last one was born. I have A grandchild that is 5 years older than my youngest daughter and my oldest daughter and I were actually pregnant at the same time. Her son is 4 months younger than my youngest. My 25 year old daughter is expecting a baby in March so I am enjoying getting ready for him. Enjoy this time.

Thanks Carol. Maybe I can stay away from facebook and get on here more. Work, facebook and getting ready for my new grandson has kept me busy. My daughter Angela that used to be on Yorkie talk is having a little boy in March.
