I have a question!! Lucas round of vaccines are coming this next April! I'm sure is the Rabies an other one but I don't remember I need to go and see his paper. I remembered I read like a year ago when I wasn't part of MT and I was looking for some information I read that the best thing you can do is not let them to do the rabies vaccine with another one in the same day. I never asked you guys why? But I did told the vet not to did it with another one and just do the rabies in one day. They all looked at me like I was crazy but I didn't care!:lol2: Even the "nurse" or whatever made a comment about how stupid it was what I asked...
And another thing... I asked them about the "Lyme" vaccine they told me something that because we are this area of the USA they don't need that vaccine! Is that truth??
Since my older sister is getting married in next December we are probably going to Mexico to the wedding and of course I'm taking Lucas so I'm thinking I should give him that vaccine since they have lots of ticks in Mex??
What do you guys think I should do?
Thanks...:)

I never give the rabies and another vaccine at the same time.......it is like toxic overload to their little bodies and that is just my opinion and I am sure a lot of vets would not agree with me. But "THAT" is "MY" opinion and since they are "my" fluffs, "I" decide. I have also started to give them the "routine" shots every three years like the rabies shot. My fluffs are not around other dogs or strange areas except when we travel and we haven't done that lately.
As far ast the lyme disease shot...........most vets will acknowledge that it is only necessary "IF" you live in a problem area which for the most part is in the northern states. Mine have never had it and never will. I did some reading on it though and seems like it is for a protection in areas that there is a problem.....and some dogs contract the disease when given the vaccine. It does sound like if you are going to an infected area the vaccine would be a good thing but I would make sure there is a problem before I gave him the shot. JMHO
Have you asked your sister if there is much of a problem with her little Duke and ticks??? Does she give Duke the vaccine??? At least with that information, you are more likely to make an informed decision.

I made sure that Emma didn't get another vaccine at the same time as her rabies either. That's just too much for their little systems to handle at one time. Emma had a reaction to a vaccine as a puppy anyway, so I've tried to be extra careful. Em's vet understood and didn't have a problem with making separate appointments. She made sure that I wasn't charged for a second visit as well, only for the vaccine itself. If the vet or vet tech had said it was "stupid", I probably would have taken Emma from them and not gone back.
I don't live in a problem area for Lyme disease so Em hasn't had that vaccine and I really don't know much about it. The best thing I can say is to research where you're going to see if it would be necessary.
By the way - I thought of you today because I found the Pet Head Fur Ball strawberry spray on eBay for $11 a bottle including shipping and Em's just arrived today. I bought two! :)

My babies only get one vaccine yearly and thats the bordatella because we travel alot and take them many places where other dogs have been. The rabies and DH2PP I do every three years as well.
Lyme, I would talk to your vet about going to Mexico and see what they think. My two have never had it but we have never lived in an area where Lyme disease is high. If Lyme is high in the area of Mexico where your visiting I would get it, if its not that high I wouldn't bother just keep him on a tick prevention and watch out for them.

The county I take Jasper to requires the 3 year rabiles shot to be given every year.. Im taking him in sat for his parvo shot and Im going to tell them that our county doesnt require a yearly shot.. parvo is a big thing arond here so he will diff get one.. I heard that giving them the shots together is harmful. unfortuantly I wasnt a member to this site when he had his last round, a year ago, now that I know I will split them up.. gosh Im sooo stressed about his shot .. Im not sure which shot made him sick last year, but he was sooo sick.. Im soo worried!! Im just going to make sure he doesnt have them together when the time comes for him to get his rabies/ Has anyone had any experiance with sickness after shots? I called the vet when he was sick and they said some dogs get sick and it may he the batch? They said he should be better in 48 hours and if not bring him in.. he was better at 47 hours.. gosh that was a bad experiance.. WORRIED!!!

Emma got really sick about an hour after getting one of her puppy shots. She was throwing up nonstop and kept going even after her tummy was empty. I called the vet and she told me to give Em children's Benadryl because it was probably an allergic reaction. She told me to watch her and if the Benadryl didn't stop it or if she couldn't keep the Benadryl down, that I'd need to bring her in. Luckily, the Benadryl worked and I was able to get her to drink a little water and lick ice cubes so that she didn't get too dehydrated. Now the vet gives her a shot of Benadryl before she gets a vaccine and she hasn't had any problems since (other than that she was a major drama queen for about a day after her last rabies vaccine - she was so sore...)

Thank you SO much Carol:hearter: :hearter:! You've a really good suggestion about asking my sister and I'll ask her! As much that I know when they came to visited us, they told me about a dog that they and all the neighbors were feeding him and told me they tried not let Duke so close to him because he has ticks! He has a "home" but during the day he goes by my parents neighbors for food! I felt so bad about it because I remembered him named "Max"
And I'll be ask my sister about it! And if Duke needed to have that vaccine!
