I do not like our local ER vet and something is wrong... My baby is acting like his skin is driving him crazy. He cannot sit still and is drooling. Poor baby is fidgeting and biting at his bottom. I pulled the hair away and his skin looks fine. No bumps, blisters, crustiness... Can I give him benedryl or something to help him settle down? My other dog needs benedryl sometimes...but he is bigger...

How old is he and what food is he on?
I would see the vet asap! Take him to a different Vet

The ER vet is an idiot... Our vet does not open for about an hour...
He is on Chicken soup... The only thing we have done differently is I put the Flea Tick stuff on him yesterday. But he was fine last night... His fidgeting and wimpering woke me up...and I noticed he was picking at himself all over... So I gave him a quick bath. He acted like I was torturing him... He is 5 months old..

That may be the reason the Flea and Tick stuff , he has a reaction to it!
Try using an oatmeal bath shampoo and low heat on the blow dryer. Also, you can always give him a little bit of Benadryl twice a day for the itching !
Andrea
PS If there is no relief soon take to the Vet!
Good Luck:)

Thank you... I have not even asked the vet about Benedryl... I thought my other dog was just "sensitive"....I give the 30lb dog a capsule... I'm thinking that is too much for a 5lb puppy though... I just tried calling again and the recording says to go to the ER vet... I have had such aweful experiences with them...but I guess I will call...

They told me it probably was the flea and tick stuff and to give him 12.5 mg benadryl and see how he does. I did that and he already seems to be calming down a bit... I will be watching him close today. Poor baby. It's aweful to itch all over.

:D Ok I am so happy he is a little better. I really think he will be fine, I would bathe him and see how it goes.

I gave him a bath as soon as I thought it might be skin problems... should I give him another so soon?

Well see how he is in a couple of hours if he is fine then don't, but if he is still itcing get the Oatmeal shampoo, get it anyway it's always good to have just in case!

I know if you put the flea and tick stuff on them and they scratch it and then lick their paws it makes them drool - my flea/tick says this on the package. Hope everything is getting better!! good luck! - Cara :) :)

What flea meds did you use? Chloe had a severe reaction to Frontline the first time I used it. She got a chemical burn. It was terrible! The vet said I should try giving her half a dose the next time and if she still had a reaction, never use it again. So I did use half a dose and she had no reaction.
I hope everything is ok now!

I use Revolution. It has the heartworm , flea and tick meds all in the tube. I just squeeze the tube between his shoulder blades on the 1st of the month.

My yorkie who has liver issues gets the Revolution too. This is the only one my vet has approved for him.

Glad to hear your baby is feeling better!! Peppi, my cocker spaniel is allergic to flea medicine as well. I have tried all the name brands of flea medicines and she reacts the same every time. She gets all itchy and starts chewing on herself and is just miserable. But I can't not give the flea medicine so for the time being she is on medicine that helps stop the itching and she is fine with the medicine. But I think I am going to try a more natural method. All my other furbabies do fine with the flea medicine, they all get revolution.
