I am looking for some sort of good detangler that I can use on Ginger for her matted areas (just a few, around her harness mostly, which she wears all day for her potty training. I have 2 from Petco and they both smell very strong but don't do anything about the knots.

I'd like to be able to use it between her shampoos, if possible. I have the madan brush and that helps quite a bit too...

Thanks! Katherine

If you can get to a feed store there is something called Cowboy Magic and works great for matts. I went to visit my mom for 3 weeks and left the pups home with my husband and son and 2 were in full coat and when i came back they looked like sheep they were so matted. I used the Cowboy Magic and just worked very slowly and got all of the matts out without losing tons of hair. One thing about it is it leaves the hair very greasy so you will have to use a really good clarifying shampoo to get rid of the greasy look. There is another product called DeMatt by Nature's Specialties that also works great. http://www.naturesspecialtiesmfg.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=7&products_id=63

I also use the cowboy magic for the really hard to get out matts. Works wonders.......I use it sparingly and let it set on the matt for a bit and then try to work out the matt. If it is still being a stubborn matt, then I apply more of the cowboy magic. But if you use a lot, it will make the coat look a little oily.......But sooooooooo worth it if it saves the coat and the matt comes out!!!

I stopped in Walmart last Sunday and they carry Cowboy magic in the pet department. I don't know if all Walmarts carry it or not.

Wow, really? I am actually very surprised! I'll have to check for it next time I am hanging in Wal-mart.

Thank you so much. Not much near us, sadly. I did find it on Amazon. Which product do you recommend? Would it be the Detangler and Shine?

I can get it shipped to me, which is easier than driving around to find it. Thank you all for the great suggestions! Katherine
