Does everybody give Heartworm pills to their babies? Mia is suppose to start her's this week but I'm nervous to give it to her. I give Snoopy's fine but he is also 60 lbs. Mia's pills say up to 25 lbs. She is only 2 1/2 lbs. I know I should give it to her since Florida is full of nasty mosquitos. Should I wait until she is older or weighs more? Any suggestions? I'm sorry I know I sound like a worry wart!:o

I used to give the pills, but now I give the tube that goes on his back. It has the heartworm, flea and tick meds in it. We give it year round here, check with your vet. I wouldn't wait to start unless your vet tells you to.

I also give the tube that goes on the back...It's called Revolution...It takes care of heartworm, flea, ticks, etc. We also have to give it year-round here in Florida as there are sooo many mosquitoes.

I give both Toby and Kallie, Heartguardplus once a month! Started Toby at six months at 4 1/2 pounds. Kallie was already on it when we adopted her.
When in doubt double check with the vet!

We have Molly on Revolution (she is 7 months old), which was recommended by my vet. We love it and it has been working great. It covers everything, is cheaper than buying heartworm and flea/tick seperate, and you don't have to worry about not being able to bathe your dog once it is put on for the month, like some other meds.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, they don't just have a general 25lbs and under. They have one for under 5lbs, one for 5-10lbs, and so on and so forth :)

I am so glad I live in a low heartworm area and Scrappy is now 3 and has never been treated for heartworm. Because Scrappy does travel with us all I have to do is check with my vet the day before leaving town and she tells me if he needs heartworm protection or not for the area we are traveling too. So far he hasn't.
Scrappy had a horrible reaction when a puppy to topical flea treatment so we try not to give him anything unless absolutely necessary.

The Revolution has all three - Heartworm, Flea & Tick prevention. I think I rather go that route. Since you can pick the size. 1-5lbs sounds better than up to 25 lbs. The sell it at 1800petmeds.

I realize the importance but I am in the dark about this also. Babe has such a sketchy past (receiving info. from my Aunt is not reliable) that I have not done this either. My location in San Diego for Mos. would be considered very low risk--I realize it just takes one to cause issue.
Can I purchase Revolution at a pet store?
Thank You

I don't know about the petstore, but it is all over online, and I got a year supply from my vet. It costs about $12 for one month, and found my vet and everywhere online had pretty much the same cost. A much lower cost then doing everything seperate.
Since Molly is a puppy and only weighs 4lbs, the doctor decided to put her on the 5-10lb medication. He did this in case she gets up to 5 lbs. He said having the little bit extra med every month is fine, but if she gets to 5lbs and is on the 0-5lbs med, then she risks not having a big enough dose and the medication may not work.

Dueci is 4.7
Daeroni is 5.8
Donbi is 9.9
i want to buy the Revolution~

which one should i get?
shouldnt i get the 5-10lbs for dueci and daeroni
and get donbi the 10-15lbs one?

:maltese7: I am confused about the heartworm medicine. I have a 5 pound baby and do I give him the whole pill since it is for a dog up to 25 pounds???

I think you're right ceibasmom, it goes 1-5, 5-10, and then it goes fro 10-20...So it probably would be better to do 5-10 for all three since the next step up jumps from 10-20 :) Nice thinking ceibasmom :)

If you are talking about Heartgard yes there is only 1 dose for the little ones which is up to 25lbs. I am not comfortable with this since she is 2 1/2 lbs I'm switching to revolution which is more weight specific.
okay that sounds better
because i was thinking of buying one of each then saw the bill and fainted :D
