Hi:
Those of you in San Diego (mid-city--East County), it's time to think about pest control because the season for ants has come early.
Yesterday I went into a room at the house here and saw a trail of the critters running along the baseboard. The odd thing was that the baseboards have been sealed to prevent entry of any insect.
I investigated where they were coming from and traced them to a flower bed w/ Azaela's planted in it--to me Azaela's have a sweet smell.
My normal method to prevent insects from coming in during the summer is to spray the window screens w/ Cedar spray (available at The Container Store); this will work on any screen that you're puppy or dog can not come in contact w/--not sliding door screens...also spray w/ the same spray around the frame of the window. (Any window your dog can not reach from outside).
I also use a draft guard under all doors--this blocks the cold during the winter; heat during summer; and prevents insect entry.
The room the ants got into is where I usually groom Babe. I take a few kibble in w/ me each day. I found one piece of kibble on the floor and the ants were drawn to it.
I couldn't spray the room because of Babe being in the house w/ anything--so the pest control co. has been called knowing a puppy is here.
So just a word to alert those in San Diego.
Linda
