hello all

just like to share an example of my favorite type of groom!

Not many people are willing and committed to keeping their dogs in coat but this HUGE 6 month old Shih Tzu came in today with a 7 to 9 inch coat. The kids have been doing the brushing and were doing a GREAT job. The only matting I found was a bit under the tail (which I was able to brush out) and some major matting under the arms that had to be shelled out with a 10 blade.

SO the dog has never had a hair cut b4...yikes. But he was semi good for it. They wanted it about 3 or so inches left with a long teddy bear head and his eyes cleared out (too much tear staining and goop...ewwww)

haha...so here is Benji and his first haircut..he was really wiggly but I think I got it looking pretty good:

What's not to love about that cut!!! What a cutie he is!! You do a wonderful job.........they should have been very pleased! I bet the little guy felt a lot different with his long coat gone!!! I'm one of those long coat lovers that do the brushing daily!!! lol

Couldn't help but notice in the background in the picture on the right side, a lovely looking pic of a maltese!!!!:D :D

you wouldn't happen to work in NJ would you?? haha he looks great! Did you scissor cut his body? I love the look - Teddy always needs a month after a grooming to look perfectly fluffed.

As I said before, I love that cut!! You did such a great job on it!!
Do you think this cut would work on a maltese?? Or do they have to have a certain hair type??

Thanks very much!

It was actually an S comb attatchment on the body and about 1/3 down the legs. The legs below that were completely scissored.

I totally forgot I even had my camera with me when i started the cut! You should have seen him before the cut, you could not tell at ALL where his head started and his tail ended!

Shih Tzus do have a MUCH thicker coat than a Maltese but the S comb would still work for a Malt. It would just lay more flat and the legs would require much more precision when scissoring.

Thanks again!

WOW that is wonderful!!! My silly Sara wanted Blackjack to grow out but then this least appointment she told our groomer to my SURPRISE to cut it all off. I don't think there is a word to explain how I felt. I think Sara was thinking of me, since she is gone to camp this week and then off to my Father's for another two weeks. So that would have been three weeks of combing him for me. And my hands just don't have that in them.
You do GREAT work!
enJOY,
Melanie

Very nice cut, you did very well. I recently brought my girls to the grommer and just look what she done. Ok I do like to get them shaved in the summer, but I hate the job she done on their faces. Just look at Boots the 1st pic, she looks so weird. And im afraid to cut her beard back a bit incase I make it worse looking, have you any advice for me. Anyways not to worry as it will grow back, but I will not be using that groomers again

Just beautiful! :clapsm:

I'm curious... I've clippered Leo with rather uneven results cause of all the "cowlicks". So would a person, in this case, go against the grain, so to speak in order to get such nice look? I'm a "wanna be" groomer for my dog (is this bad? )

A cowlick appears when the growth direction of the hair forms a spiral pattern. The hair in a cowlick either stands straight up or lies at an extreme angle and seems to be always at odds with the style in which the rest of the hair is worn. They can show up anywhere. The most common site is in the crown like the one belonging to Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer of the “Our Gang” comedy series of the 1930s and 1940s, or on Dennis the Menace.:wink5:

Yup, Leo has lots of them:lol2: :lol2:

What a wonderful explanation. Thank you for explaining it. I had never known exactly what it meant myself, even though I was told my son had one. :lol2:

wow thank you very much for all the nice compliments.

is Leo a Maltese? With hair at the Shih Tzu's lenth....the hair should lay flat mostly. You can see in the pic that he had a few waves regardless of being completely blown dry right after the bath.

I see cowlicks ALOT in Gloden Retrievers. Really, the only option is to clip it with the same blade/comb as the rest of the body. I def. wouldnt go against the grain. But the outcome should come out pretty even with alot of back brushing. But the cowlicks will remain(dang genetics!)

thanks again.

Oh heres another.

She had a very wispy coat...her topknot was SO hard to shape up...but she was a fantastic girl for me.

She got an A comb all over(about 1.25 inches) with a clean face and clean feet.

Leo is a Maltese...okay so back brushing is key. Thanks so much for the great tip! Til I get this right, Leo will be in my hands of inexperience. Hope he doesn't disown me!:awink:

Again, your grooming is beautiful!
