So what factor came into play in choosing the maltese breed over other toy dogs?
Mine was all about looks and then the non shedding allergy reason!

When I was 5 I got my usual dog book for my birthday ( yes I was obsessed even then ) . In the book my favorite photos were the black and white shih tzu , the maltese and the gold and white lhasa apso . Well I've still got the book , but now I also own all the breeds and colors too :D Sarah P.S When I was 8 I got my first shih tzu ( black and white of course ) P.P.S So yes it was the appearance I liked - hey they're pretty , they don't have to be nice :)

The Maltese was the 3rd dog that I've owned. The first 2 were much bigger and shed. I really don't do shedding very well (well, not me personally!!!) but when my husband came home from work and said one of bus driver's Maltese had puppies, I read up on them. Max was a birthday gift to our son but of course I fell in love with him and the breed.
Everything about the breed sold me on it. The size, non-shedding, personality, training, etc. etc. just won me over.
I hope to have a Maltese in my life till the day I die. Jack has filled such a void that was left when Max died. All his crazy antics, his terrorist attacks!!, and the love he gives us is all worth it. And I know some people don't believe that dog's can love, but they will never prove by me. Those beautiful black eyes and those sloppy kisses can melt a heart in a second.
What else can I say but: I LOVE MY MALTESE!

When I was a little girl we had a maltese and a yorkie, and I just knew that someday I wanted my own maltese and yorkie :) They are two of the most beautiful breeds, in my opinion, and their personalities are wonderful!! My two furbabies when I was a kid were so loyal and loving and sweet and got along beautifully :) Plus, I love long-haired dogs that do not shed since I do have allergies.

AHA!
I was able to choose the personality and the looks! LB is my first purebreed. Growing up we've had German Shepards, black labs, even a beautiful Irish Setter. I was so inlove with her, poor baby she was abused when we found her:(. That's another story. We also grew up with mixed breeds. But LB is MY first purebred dog.:luv: I love that flowing white hair and their expressive eyes so full of depth.

Chipper is a maltese-long-haired Chihuahua mix. My little girl's aunt is a breeder and this mix was not planned. When they gave him to my little girl I really did not want him but as you can tell he grew on me. Now I don't know what I would do without him,:D

Allergies. A maltese was the 1st dog I had ever been around that I didn't have a problem. I even had problems with poodles. After getting Misha, we have gotten a Morkie & a Yorkie. So far so good.
I also like how prissy they are, all white & angel like.

My daughter calls Chipper the little prince because of the way he prances and as she calls it is so regal. He always finds a pillow to lay on like a little king on his throne.

I waited 20 years to be owned by a Maltese and it was the look that first sold me on them and since having one it is now all about the personality, I just adore this breed and will always, always be owned by one. :)

When I was 14, my mom was too heart broken to leave an adorable maltese puppy at the petstore any longer. She had already been there for weeks and we had visited her twice. My mom suprised me the day she and my dad decided to get her. She came home in a little pink receiving blanket and my mom handed my first little fluff ball over to me as my christmas present. We had many very good years with her and when she passed away it took me quite a while to get over her loss. After she passed, all I ever wanted was another maltese and thought that was the only breed that I would ever want, I love their personality and they are beautiful dogs! So with my parents financial help, we found Chloe. And then, well Chloe needed a friend...and my cousin just happened to have the most beautiful little yorkie puppy ever, so along came Tinkerbell and then well...Gizmo needed a home and we already had so many so what was one more?? LOL! But we're done! No more room here!
That's why we chose the dogs we have.

I loved the look. I had really never been around another maltese but several other people that own one always talk about how sweet they are. My daughter has allergies so it was between a yorkie and a maltese. I got the yorkie first and I love her to pieces, but I thought she needed a playmate so I had to get a maltese. I was surprised to see how different their personalities are. The yorkie is so prissy and the maltese is sooooo sweet. At first I didn't think it was going to work out because Hannah was just miserable and just layed around and she was so mean to him, but things are going a lot better now. He is so lovable.

I was blown away by the difference in personality between a yorkie and a maltese too. My Kallie is a princess, such a proper lady. And Toby is a terror at times, energetic but never prissy but he is a boy!..........but I love them both but they are so different but both bring so much pleasure into my life with their individual personalities!!!

Everybody says that about the difference in the two breeds. I was shocked when I got my first yorkie, I wasn't used to such a little terror (terrior) either!! LOL And Tinkerbell is a real sweet girl now but she is very prissy too!! And there is a definate difference in the two breeds!
