Well Daisy is 2 years old, and we decided to get her a playmate. His name is Harley. Now, Harley is a 4 mo. old and he is VERY energetic and LOVES to harass Daisy. This is day 2 now, and he has worn her out. I am giving each of them nap times, because they need to rest. I am worried because Harley is biting Daisy's ears and her tail and she REALLY hates it and is showing a very aggressive side which is NOT pretty lol. I don't want her to hurt the little guy, but he really is unrelenting. I don't want to get on him so much that he doesn't trust me, but then again, I don't want Daisy to be so worn out either. Confused!!! NEED advice PLEASE!
*Daisy mostly is giving him teeth shots and icky warnings
*I did she her nip at his face :(
*She is mostly very sweet natured, and yesterday when we brought him home, she was pretty good with him.
*I want to allow nature to take its course, but no hurting each other lol.
*I used a water bottle when Daisy was young to discourage bad behavior, like barking etc... Do you think this might work with the biting from the puppy? I only squirt them in the back, never face!!!!
THANKS! will post pictures soon of our new little man :hearter:

Congrats on Harley!!!
When I first adopted Toby he was six months old and very active. HE loved to pick on kallie and pull her topknot as you can see from the photo below, he really tore her topknot apart........GRRRRRR!!! But I took the time to teach him the no bite command and pretty soon he left her topknot alone and began to enjoy their time together. And with time her topknot grew back. :) Hair does grow!:tongue:Hope it works out and little Harley settles down so Daisy can enjoy the company!!

Congrats on your new baby boy. I'm in pretty much the same position that you are in. My Belle is 2 1/2 and Sammy is now 8 months. When we got him he was 3 months. He would also bite at Belle's ears and tail and she was very nasty with him. We found out that she had an infection in both ears and he was really hurting her. That has healed and Sammy still goes after her ears and her topknot which has gotten thinner:mad: and her tail. I usually firmly tell him no bite and he stops but she also starts it with him too. I tried the water thing and they both thought that was great fun:mad: I want to be able to put bows in Belle's hair but until all this quits I really can't. Sammy thinks they are handles to pull Belle around with. Enjoy your baby, they really liven up the household!:lol2:

Congratulations on your new puppy!
Unless Belle hurts Sammy, I would let her "put him back in his place"! Belle is the "adult" dog. She has a right to be left in peace by the little one.
As a general rule the older will not hurt the puppy but will "teach" the puppy good doggy etiquette.
Our older Maltese (3 year old) will quite often take it upon herself to teach the youngsters good behavior: she will jump on them, growl at them at the same time and kind of "shake them" until they calm down. When Bleue came in last year she had to do it quite a bit as he was quite an obnoxious puppy with all the other dogs! (to us he was just a funny little monster:wink5:)
Even our lab Charlie would growl at them when the new puppies misbehaved (got 4 within a year) and they did learn to respect his space when he would growl "enough"!
I honestly can say that it worked for me and my pack!
BTW the little ones learn real fast that if they cry or yelp, we are going to come to the rescue!!!! It was hard to stay away when it did happen but in the long run it did pay!
Good luck!

That's what Pepper did when we brought Squeegee home...she has definitely overtaken the role of disciplinarian. LOL!

Can you define "overtaken". Females are usually "top dogs", even with a younger female. And as a general rule will make sure that the younger one will "listen" and "respect" them.
For me as long as the little one is not obviously scared of the older one and they do play normally the rest of the time everything is fine.
I draw the line at food and toy steeling! Each their own bowls and no aggressive behavior with toys!

perhaps it would be more accurate to say "taken over"...LOL!! She is top dog and keeps The Squeege in line at all times...LOL! He's bigger, too.

when I first got Monique at 4 mos. old she was a happy doggie and I did not suspect that she was biting Lucky my 4 yr. old Yorkie..upon bathing him I saw that he had bites by his penis from her...I immediately showed her what she had done and said "no"....she never did it again....so I guess they go through biting periods...they got very close...she missed him very much when he passed in 2008 at 13 1/2 yrs. She is now 13 and had to realize that she is the one and only now...I guess she still dreams of:tongue: :tongue:him..Ruaga:tongue:

Have you tried taking Harley out in the mornings to wear him out a bit? lol. Maybe that will slow the young one down! :)
