Introducing MalteseTalk Chat!

Our chat room is now open!

Just click on the Chat button (in the top purple navigation bar), to the right of Calendar (or you can click on the link to chat, http://www.MalteseTalk.com/forums/javachat.php).

Any topic is fine for discussion, but please be respectful of your fellow member.

For those with problems using the Java chat, here is an alternative method to access MalteseTalk chat.

First, get mIRC from http://www.mIRC.com and download it to your own computer. mIRC is a PC-only program, there is a similar program called Snak for Macs. It is a free program!

Okay, install the program and then run it. It should pop up a Options Window. Here's what you can put in:

Full name, just put in your your MalteseTalk username
Email address: anything works, no one can see your email address

Nickname: put in your MalteseTalk username (maximum of nine characters)
Alternative: put in an alternative username (like user2) (maximum of nine characters)
Check the Invisible Mode box

Now click OK.

Now you are in the Status window. Type in '/server irc.efnet.org' without the '

It will pop up a mIRC Favorites box. Type in #MalteseTalk and click the Join button

(Alternatively, if that server does not work, you can try '/server irc.prison.net' or '/server irc.qeast.net' to get onto the MalteseTalk chat network).

Voila, you are now in Chat! And you can still browse MalteseTalk at the same time! When you see a Web link posted in chat, just double-click the link, and it will open in your Internet browser. Enjoy!

Remember that there are times in MalteseTalk chat where no one may be talking. Please wait a few minutes, or come back at another time when there may be some people actively chatting.

Please let us know if you have any questions or where anything doesn't make sense. Enjoy the chat!

Admin is really working hard to fix the problem.........hopefully we will have our very own chat room by tomorrow sometime. We'll just have to keep trying it!! I'm so excited!!!!:D :D :D

Nope not working yet for me either, but I have to say THANKYOU Admin, I am so excited, how wonderful. I can talk to all my friends. I can't set up that yahoo chat thing, so I have been missing out, so to have it here will be so great.

I had to download a program onto the computer. Just followed the directions when I clicked the link. HEE HEE

Okay I just went in, but it doesn't show up that I'm in there on the main screen of MT. How are we going to know if people are in there, so we'll know to go in and chat??

Admin, is there a way to show who is in chat like on YT? It makes it so much easier to know if there is someone there.:)

I've always seen who is in the chat room in a box in the upper right corner of the screen! Maybe there is just nobody in there when you go, but it should at least show "YOUR" name as being in there!

Yes I opened up another window of MT while I was in chat, and went to look and I don't see where it says I'm in there. There's nothing at the top right of my screen. I just tried again and same thing. :confused:

I can't believe nobody answered your question. So I will even though it is an "OLD" post, it is just right for an "OLD" person to answer it. I just hit the enter key after I type my message. If you ever want to try the chatroom again, PM me and I'll meet you in there. :) :)

MT chat is for a quick not so personal chat unless you want to hook up for a private chat one on one and you can do that too! But Yahoo is GREAT!:D

There usually is not very many people in at once.. We like to plan a time where we can all get on and chat with each other at once. Otherwise you can sometimes get lucky and catch someone in there but thats rare :tongue:

We havn't had a chat in a long time.. But we can start a thread in the Off Topic section to see what times are best for everyone :)
