Fifi's hair is getting long and I have been putting bows in her hair to keep the hair out of her face. But... I REALLLYYYYY want to learn how to make these bows:

I have already bought ribbon and fabric stiffener but I don't understand how to form the loops on the side? And everything else, lol. So basically I have no idea what the heck I'm doing but I really want to learn!

I was looking on ebay wanting to buy the correct bands for her hair and I'm wondering if anyone knows the difference between the different sizes? for example:
3/16 4.5
1/8 6.5
3/8 6.5
I'm so confused!:confused: By the way.. I got those sizes from eBay, by typing in topknot bow... The bands in those sizes came out.
Thanks everyone! As always... Any advice is very much appreciated! Hope everyone's having a great weekend! :):hearter:

See but what I'm wondering is what's the difference between the bands? Can any size be used? What's different from them all? Maybe how wide they are? I have nooo clue! lol. :( Thank you for replying :)

Aww I saw a website that showed you how to make them. I will look for it and post it here.

Most of the bands you can buy are Orthodontic bands for braces. They work best for top-knots as they don't break the hair. I got some from a friend and they come in different sizes and colors. I have black, white and pink. It really doesn't matter that much. I want to make bows also so I ordered a DVD from some girls that make bows. It's okay but mostly geared toward making bows for kids hair. If you want, I'll make a copy and send it to you to get some ideas from. there should be something on you tube for instructions. I have ribbon and jewels and stiffener but haven't had time to sit and work with it yet. Figured it was a good winter project. I have bought some bows from girls on here that sell them and they are beautiful. I like the ones with the alligator clips in them for Belle's hair. They are easier to get in. My husband buys the alligator clips at the hardware store. I'll watch the DVD all the way through and if it seems at all like what might help I'll copy it. I have grandaughters who wear hair bows and like the corkers and the instructions are in there for those. If I come across anything else, I'll let you know.
Anyone else interested in the DVD let me know.

Thank you so much Zuly! I was searching the other night but I could only find how to make the little bows that you get at the groomers, you know those ones they make really fast. I saw some for sale only and they're like 5 bucks each... Call me cheap but I'd rather make them! lol :)

Sue, I got my braces removed last year and I'm wishing I would've kept my rubber bands! but I threw them all away. I'd love a copy.. That would be really cool. I'm not very creative so any ideas would most definitely help. I looked all over youtube and like I told Zuly, they only had tutorials for the bows they make at the grooming salon. I've bought Fifi bows at the 99 cents store. They come like 8 in one little package (2 of each color/design) and they have the alligator clips, they are a lot easier than the bands. Thanks, I appreciate it and I'm excited! :D

Well, I've never tried making bows for the kids but sounds like it would be fun! I am just getting started on my ribbon embroidery crafting. I hope you are able to figure it out.

As far as bands go, I use yellow, tan and the clear ones. I know each of these bands are different in size and "strength." Sometimes the yellow ones break while I am in the process of putting them on but they are very gentle on the hair. I think I like the tan the best.......sort of a nice choice between the other two. I will have to find the size I buy and let you know.

As far as the bands for the bows, I have switched to using alligator clips on the bows as it is easy to put on and take out. I used the bans for years but it always had to use papers with the bands so that there was no hair loss. That was a lot of work. So now I just band he hair and put the clip in.....done!!!
