My Rescue

I've kept this quiet for the last 2 weeks because I didn't know if it would work out. But I have a sweet little boy that I have rescued from a kill shelter. He is 11 months old. Has been kept crated. He does not really now what affection is. If we go to pet him, he cowers and whimpers. He shows great aggression at Teddy, my Yorkie. He is a Shih Tzu, grey and brindle and some white. He likes my huband a lot more than me at the moment. We are working on it though. It's just so pitiful to imagine all he has gone through in his short life so far. His name is Picasso, however, he does not respond to that name at all. So I have named him after one of my favorite rescued Shih tzu's, Sarah's Henry. Picasso will be known as Henry. Here is his pic from a few moments ago. It's the only one I took as I didn't want to stress him too much.

:) Oh Robin I am so happy for you, what a wonderful thing you have done and he is precious~~I'm so sorry for all that poor baby went through:( I think your a hero for doing this. I am sure with time he will come around, he is still young so that is a great thing.With all the love and ALOT of patience you and your family will show him , he will come around, believe me he will.

CONGRATULATIONS ROBIN ON GETTING HENRY

I know he will come around for you.............just takes time when they have had a difficult past, but they do come around with TLC and I know you will give him lots of that!!!! Oh and did I mention................HE is soooooooo cute!!!!

My dad one time adopted a german shepard (named Berry) that was 10 years old. The dog had been crated it's whole life and went from home to home to home. When my dad adopted him, the dog seriously didn't even know how to run. Thankfully my golden retriever who was about 4 at the time loved him and taught him how to run and play like a normal dog even though he was VERY slow. Berry loved my dad and loved my golden... I'm happy knowing that even though he didn't have a good life, at least his last year or so was the best it had ever been. :-)

Good luck and don't give up hope with this little guy!

Oh that is so heartwarming to hear Ashley. Thanks for sharing that with us. I'm hoping too that my boys and I can teach him that the human touch is a very nice and comforting thing. I'm sure we'll work it out.

He is still very young and will eventually learn that everything is okay. I'm sure you have bu have you tried giving him treats from your hand? He may warm up to you some that way. I know you said he's been aggressive with your other baby... how has the other one taken to that?

He is a real cutie. My Chipper only had a bad experience with a groomer one time and it took us a long time to get him over that. He still backs off from me at times since I was the one giving him medicine all the time while he was hurt. With patience I'm sure Henry will come around and be very loveable and happy. Just to think what would have happened to such a pretty dog if you had not been there for him is awful.

CONGRATS on your new baby! I think it's wonderful that you were able to rescue that sweet baby from that shelter. It takes a very special person to do what you did.

I've rescued dogs before but not through a shelter. Growing up, we had a dog that kept coming to our house. She was a gorgeous Irish Setter. She had a chain around her neck that was embedded partially, I could see some cuts on her skin. And she as sooo skinny. We posted up flyers but no one claimed her, so I kept her and had that chain surgically removed. We named her Julia. She was utterly beautiful! We rescued her from the life she would've lead.

Congrats again, I would love to continue reading about his progress. He will soon come to love you and trust you in time.
