In light of the recent rescue by Robin of her beautiful Henry, I thought it might be interesting to see how many of us have also rescued babies. I have definitely rescued a dog or two in my lifetime.

Jack was rescued from a kill shelter from down southern Illinois. They called the ADOPT organization and they went right away and got him. We were the lucky ones that were picked to adopt Jack. Having owned a Maltese for 12 years and the glowing references from 2 vets and a personal friend they chose us.

Andrea,
That's just as important as if you adopted one. The ones in the shelters need loving people like you to sponsor them. I donate all the time to different places all over the US, to help dogs, cats, cattle, wild horses, defense funds, and so on. I feel that we (as a nation) don't care enough to make sure all the animals are taken care of. I esp. care for all the laboratory animals. Those stories make me sick. I'd like to rescue them all.
So, my friend, you are making sure that a little one is safe and healthy until their forever family comes along.

We've never adopted a dog from a shelter, but we did "rescue" a maltese/shih-tzu mix...The family was giving him up because they were in over their heads with too many dogs...He was just a little puppy and they had just purchased him from a pet store. It was meant to be...My husband and I were actually showing houses at the time and we were with a client when this cute little puppy ran up to us. We found his home, and we kept telling them how cute he was and how much we loved him, and they told us their situation. At the time, we were living with my mom, and I couldn't bring in another dog for myself even though we wanted him sooo bad. We were in loooove with him. But my mom had been wanting a puppy for sooo long. She wanted either a maltese or a shih-tzu, and boy was that a surprise. We gave him to her last year for Mother's Day, and it was love at first sight. It was exactly what she wanted, and he is her spoiled little baby :)
Just 2 weeks ago, we helped my BIL find a puppy. He had been looking for a purebred boxer from a breeder, but I went on petfinder.com and found a little puppy boxer that was up for adoption. Once again, it was love at first sight :)
Although, we have not rescued a dog for ourselves, we do give to rescue organizations :)

I will always rescue dogs - they are beautiful , adorable and the only reason they are in rescue is their ( for the most part ) CRUDDY FORMER OWNERS . Sarah and her rescue boys Henry James the first and Teddy

We have a golden retriever that my hubby adopted from a high kill shelter 6 years ago. My husband was on his way home from work and he said he saw the shelter and he just had to stop for some reason, we weren't looking for a dog. And he said he walked in there and said sit at all the barking dogs and Bo was the only one that listened! LOL It saved his life, because he was scheduled to be put down the next day. That's so sad!! He came home with him without any warning to me...this huge dog came bounding into the house. But he knows all of his commands and has never barked in the six years we've owned him. Someone really put a lot of time into him and loved him. He's an old man now and I'm really getting sad about it as he has some things starting to bother him, but he's the best! And Chloe absolutely adores him!

Then of course we have our yorkie, Gizmo that has been with us since October, he is also an amazing little man.

We saved Daisy (border collie mix) from a high kill shelter. The day we went inside, the guy was in the back euthanizing a few dogs. We saw Daisy and just couldn't leave her there. She does have a few behavioral problems, nothing to major, but she is the best dog. Her owner gave her a bath right before she took her to the shelter, so Daisy gets extremely scared and freaked out when she gets a bath, she really thinks we are going to drop her off somewhere. She has gotten better but it is sad that her previous owner caused this.
She is such a sweetheart, she gets along with all the other dogs so well and is so gentle with them. I don't know what we would do with out her.:)
