I saw on another forum that most member brush then comb. Basically using the comb for the mats. I always use the comb and then brush. Now I'm  confused. Which one do you use first?

I always brush Fifi first and then I comb her to make sure I didn't miss any knots. That's the groomer always did it and told me to do it.

I always brush first and if I run into a matt, I spray it with detangler, let it set for a minute while I brush another area and then go back and use the comb to removed the matt. I also have a big comb from CC that I use once I get it all brushed out, dematted. It is the final stage to my grooming. It still will pick up a few snarls here and there and then I use the small comb to get them out.
The key is to brush daily and keep those matts away so that none get "seriously" matted........daily brushing helps tremendously but also keeping their coat clean goes a long way to keeping the matts from forming. A dirty coat will get a matt a lot quicker than a clean one.
I have quite a bit of money invested in grooming tools but like any other project, if you want to make it easy, buy the right tools for the job. So that's why I spent the initial money because with five dogs (Krissie is really looking good these days) to groom, I wanted tools to make it easiest on "ME" and on "them."
I was also told to never brush a "dry" coat but to always wet it with a detangler to keep the hair from breaking! Dont' know if it is true or not but I always do it.

OMG no wonder JiJi is always matted. That girl plays in the dirt 24/7. She cannot stay clean for an hour.
I do remember reading that it is opposite of brushing your hair. We comb than brush. For our fluffs we brush than comb. And like Carol said, wet.

Omg I've been doing it alllll wrong. I comb first and then brush. I guess I need a new brush instead of a comb. I brushed her yesterday after a week without brushing her  and there was no mats.
I wonder if the comb breaks more hair than the brush.

I've never used a brush on Emma...just a steel comb and detangler spray. I guess it works for us - she seems to have a nice coat and no problems with matted hair (even though she wears clothes every now and then...LOL!)

I brush then comb unless I hit a mat then I just shave them bald, JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I brush and comb with spray on them, I like using mainly just a comb actually the brush is more because they like it at times :lol2:

I brush first then comb and I do use CC Ice on Ice. It makes it a lot smoother to but I typically don't have matts with Gianni's hair. (His puppy coat is leaving and I am pleasantly surprised to see that he has a nice adult coat.)
Also, I believe brushing can lead to more hair being taken out...especially if it is a bristle brush instead of pin brush. That's why I do not brush my own hair too often. Just invest in a great brush like CC or Madan and then you shouldn't experience hair loss.

I brush first with my CC wooden pin brush and then comb if I find a mat or just to finish up. I always spray first with Ice on Ice. Sammy is losing his cottony baby coat so can hardly wait to see his adult coat. I was all set to cut him down for winter so he could wear sweaters (new Pet Edge catalog came today! Shopping mode everyone.) They have some really cute sweaters and shirts. Then he gets a bath and he looks so pretty I can't bare to cut it off.
I brush 1st, and if i come across a mat I will use a comb then go back to brushing. I am lucky when it comes to my babies hair they dont matt as much to begin with. But when it comes to my hair its terrible I think I comb then brush :lol2:

It's the opposite in my house. My hair doesn't tangle (falls yes, but not tangle ) But JiJi's hair tangles every hr I'm not looking at her. It wasn't bad when she was an only fluff but with my other two  playing wrestling with her.
