I always new Sofia had a weird nipple that didn't come out as the others. Is like hidden and I would say, once a year, I find like a black gunk on it. Usually I take it out with my nail. I know disgusting lol. Well 3 days ago I felt her nipple a little bit swollen. Now since is not the first time I knew she probably scratch it and it was going to heel by itself. Just now I was looking at it to see if it got better it did but I saw the same gunk/scab I always see.

Well after a good google search I found that its called an Inverted Nipple. :lol2: The weird part is that it can happen to people too. Weird . I read is normal for them to have the gunk since the nipple is inside. It says it needs to be clean but I never did.. Poor Sofia lol. I clean it with a little bit of water just in case. You know once I took her to the vet and even told the dumb vet about it and he said its a little bit of discoloration.

Anyway something new to learn. I wonder does any of your baby's have the special nipple :lol2:?

LOL Mitzy doesn't have a "special" nipple but I know with HUMANS it's pretty common. Sometimes you never know either. When I took my breastfeeding class she said a lot of mothers try to breastfeed and find out they have an inverted nipple/s (even though it looks normal) and have a hard time feeding. I don't know about the gunk  but the nipple is pretty common

Well I checked all the gals and no inverted nipples here.......You can hardly see Brandy's and Kallie's and maybe that is due to them never having been bred. Buffy and Krissie have both had litters and their nipples are a little more predominate...........just no inverted ones.

Like Jess, I learned that is very common in women. But never knew dogs could too. But I guess I'm not surprise.

Sorry Zuly, but when I read the title I thought you were going to say you had an inverted nipple. Not that theirs anything wrong with having one but I was like geez, really your going to write about it. :lol2:

Now Jessica would that surprise you if Zuly did write about that?:sidesplit
You just never know what to expect from Zuly, that's part of why she is so special!:D

Zuly, the only thing I would do different for Sofia is clean it out with a Q-tip and peroxide. It may bubble a little but it gets it cleaner and won't hurt Sofia.

In humans, the management for that is letting others literally suck the breast. I don't know the management for dogs.
