:) I figured this was a good topic so I wanted to ask everyone where they got their babies!:D
I bought Nemo in October 2005 from a petstore:( that was before I knew about puppymills and all that terrible stuff!I have learned so much now, it's incredible I know so much, Nemo was 10 weeks when I got him and I am so happy he doesn't have any of the problems associated with petshop dogs like barking alot, aggressive behavior, biting, and training problems.
He went on the pads as soon as we got him home. He is a great little boy I'm lucky to have him. My next one though will be from a reputable breeder , but I don't regret one moment of having Nemo:D
Thanks,
Andrea

I got Sammy Maree from a supposed breeder, however I think they are just a glorified backyard breeder with a kennel name. I got Max out of the paper, my girlfriend rung about an ad she saw in the paper. This lady was selling them off at 5wks of age, if they weren't sold they were being taken to a petshop. Ernie was out of the paper also.
Yes I know, I have SUCKER written on my forehead. If down the track I add to my furfamily, I will go through a GOOD breeder.
In saying all that, I have no regrets with the babies I have.

Kira I got from a friend of mine who's dog had puppies. She's the best thing that has ever happened to me. The second best thing was when I got LB.
I got LB through an ad on our online paper. This is before I knew better. She's healthy besides the luxating patella, which BTW has not manifested itself in a very long time.
I will get my next baby through a reputable breeder. I already have one in mind. It's just not the right time.

Well, we bought Kallie from and individual who had purchased her as a puppy from a "petstore." So the person listed her on "Petfinder" and I saw her, called and we drove 10 hours round trip to pick her up with only having seen one pic of her at one year old but she was now 2 yrs. and 4 months at the time we purchased her (there's a thread showing her progression). The original owner was selling due to a new human baby coming onto the scene.
Toby we bought from an individual who also had him listed on "Petfinder" and it was only a 2 hour round trip to purchase him. He was six months old when we purchased him. His registration papers show him having be born locally by a breeder, but don't know the breeder's reputation. The original owner was selling Toby because she had to return to work and couldn't meet his needs.
I am totally happy with both my furbutts and love them with all my heart!!!
GREAT IDEA FOR A THREAD ANDREA!!!!!! HELPS US GET AQUAINTED A LITTLE BIT BETTER WITH OUR MEMBERS!!!

Donbi came from the petstore in Feb 2006
she was only 8 weeks old, i had no idea what puppymills were~
i thought it was a windmill and puppies running around :(
she can be a sweetie or she can throw fits, when she doesnt get her way, she loves to play rough... she can show aggression,
but later on she can be a total sweetheart. she was potty trained, sometimes we have accidents but she is a great dog.
Dueci came from a reputable breeder, he is the sweetest guy, i love him so much he is my heart! we always sleep together and he loves dancing for us.
he gives you kisses whenever you plucker up, his personitly rocks.
he was potty trained he makes me so freaking happy.
i get very protective about him and his slipping knees, but he is fine.
he will be 1 soon :D i truly love him, i would dump my man for him :X
i love how he yawns and how he dances around... (sorry im jus going on and on)
Daeroni came from a reputable breeder also, he is such a funny guy.
he hates attendtion, but when my boyfriend comes inside the house his eyes gets bigger and he turns into a little dueci and starts doing dances and wags his tail.
however i dont think he likes me much. he only likes me when i have treats or toys :D
i dont mind, i see him always eatting, sleeping on his belly, and to me he seems like a cat instead of a maltese :D

We got Jack on Sept. 24th, 2006 from the A.D.O.P.T. organization. It's a no-kill shelter. He was 4 1/2 months old, and had been dropped off at a regular kill shelter down southern Illinois. Someone there knew about ADOPT and called them. They went that night and picked him up.
There were almost 30 applications for him and we were the lucky ones to be picked.

We got Molly from a petstore in January of this year. We were concerned about the puppy mills, etc, but they said she came from a breeder and we have her papers from the breeder along with her pedigree all the way back to her great grandparents, so that made us feel better. She has been wonderful and worth every penny!

PLEASE DON'T BE OFFENDED: BUT, Kallie came from a petstore too............and she has all the pedigree papers with the names of her great great grandparents, with a breeder's name on the paper work...........but the breeder she came from in Oklahoma was still a puppymill and not the breeder type that breeds for quality and elimination of genetic defects! Kallie is almost five years old and has grade 2 Luxating patella. So petstores will tell you that they are from a breeder which in a "sense" they are but not the sort of breeder we talk about who use control in their breeding programs to assure that the pups are free of genetic defects, etc. JMO
But, like you, no matter if Kallie is a petstore baby or not, she is ours and we love her to death and would not trade her for a topnotch, genetically perfect, showdog! We are happy to have her and worth every penny too!

Emma is originally from a reputable breeder :)
But my poor Miko(my yorkie) came from a puppymill...The woman posed as a reputable breeder asking me questions and stuff telling me all about Miko's parents, etc. When we got Miko he was very, very sick. The woman disappeared off the face of the earth. Changed her number and everything. After some digging, I found that she was actually a broker for puppymills. :(

That is so sad. The babies need to be with mom and siblings until they are at least 12 weeks to learn basic things such as pack order, socialization, how to eat kibble with no problem and the list goes on and on..........

"They" say 12 weeks before you get your dog. Ok, I don't have anything against it, but there are always exceptions. Nothing is black and white. The reasoning might be good if the puppies are in a perfect environment. Sometimes they might be better off if you get them at 8 weeks, 9 weeks... I always heard that you can sell or give a puppy away after they have been weened and eating by themself. As a matter of fact, when this is done, most of the time the mother doesn't want to have anything to do with her offspring. Now this morning I read in the newspaper the reply from the veterinary to a couple who was asking about introducing a dog to their 2 cats and what was better, getting an older dog or a puppy. What struck me is that the veterinary was advising them in case of a puppy, to get one between the ages of 6 to 8 weeks. Hello ???????? This is coming from a vet. And a good one by the way. All the dogs I had in my lifetime came to me younger then 12 weeks and they all did good.
I Found Nemo
05-20-2007, 01:22 AM
While there may be exceptions to 12 weeks, it is better to wait. I got Nemo at 10 weeks , which means he got to the petstore around 7 or 8 weeks.Just cause I didn't have any major issues with him doesn't mean it was good . I know that when you get a pup at 8 weeks or less you are running the risk of behavioral issues. I have seen it, the mother does teach her pups important skills in those 12 weeks, Nemo had alot of nipping issues when he was a puppy ,I have seen pups from breeders that just acted different than Nemo did. Nemo was so scared the first 2 weeks he was here:( he wouldn't even leave the kitchen , wouldn't play and was extremely cautious.. Why take the risk? To me to wait the 12 weeks will only benefit the pup and the new owner. I'm not saying people who get a pup under 12 weeks are doomed, I'm just sayng it is better in my opinion to wait..

Fortunately we got all three of our dogs at breeders, but the only one we did research on was our Golden.
Our Shar-pei we got at a breeder's house, but they just had an ad in the paper saying that on such and such a day, anyone was allowed to stop by and look at their puppies and we happened to be one of the first ones, were looking for a dog, and picked her up.
With my Golden, my dad did a lot of research and emailed a ton of breeders. This lady emailed us back from Chesapeke saying that she was having a litter of puppies due that December and we were going to get the second best puppy in the litter. When they were old enough to visit, the one we liked best happened to end up being the second best and he was ALMOST show quality. He had a few VERY minor things that stopped him like his ears were about 1/8 of an inch off and his tail was like a 1/4 inch too short.
With Chippy we had looked for a couple months for a yorkie, but weren't having any luck. Half of them were like $1500 and the other half was those silly missionary nigeria scams. Finally, we put an add on craigslist and a lady emailed us about rehoming her 4 year old malt (that's why I'm here), but she kept putting off us meeting him and didn't seem in a hurry and if he was available, we didn't want to wait forever, so our search continued and when I was looking online I found that this person had Westie's for about $500 and Adam called about them and the breeder said he sold all the Westie's but did have one Bichon and one Yorkie. We were so excited we went the next day to get Chippy. I don't know if I posted about it here or not, but Chip was really sick when we brought him home. He had thrown up 3 times on the way home and we thought it was just him getting car sick, plus being scared, and stressed. The next day I had to work and Adam said he threw up 5 other times and the vet freaked us out by saying he had Parvo and all this other stuff. Adam took him back to the breeder with the thought in mind that he wasn't going to return with Chip. Adam said on the way up there, Chip just layed in the seat real still with his tongue sticking out. I don't think he would have made it if we hadn't taken him back to the breeder. The breeder gave him some wet food, some nutri cal and some anti biotics and Adam said 10 minutes later Chip was bouncing off the walls and he's been great ever since.

It's never too late to post about a "good" breeder as we are always interested to find new ones who strive to make the breed better. And word of mouth and experience is a good way to help others fine a quality pup! What is the name of her Kennel or does she have a web site to look at?

My Leo was the biggest pup of the litter, a little shy at first but perfectly trained with pee pads, heeled with first walk and has caught on to all training so quickly, I'm truly amazed. After complete blood tests he appears to be in great shape. He came from what may be considered a byb who, I believe, really cares about the health and welfare of her dogs. In my ignorance I almost bought a dog from someone on the "list" of really unhealthy pups in the same area so I feel so lucky to have found Leo's breeder. No regrets here.

Awww Andrea darling... I recall so well when we found out that Bella Mia and Nemo may have been from the same person. I think both Nemo and Mia are VERY fortunate to be as healthy and loved as they are. Mia's is a PRINCESS in her newer home. Ingrid loves her dearly and Ingrid's son ADORES Mia.
Ok onto your topic.
Sir Micro, was breed by a breeder. Martina Alfonso. She use to have a store called "Happy Puppy" and that is where we found Micro.
We adopted Bella Mia from a family that had purchased her in a PET STORE. She was surely from a Puppymill.
Mr Wookie, is an Angel Maltese from Bonnie Palmer.

Ok, I'm late to this thread, but wanted to add my two cents to it. I got lucky and found my first maltese from a breeder off of the AMA breeder list (it wasn't because I did any research, that is for sure!) Lucy came Whitecliff Maltese (http://www.whitecliffmaltese.com) My next maltese came from Midas Maltese ( http://www.midasmaltese.com ) and then my third girl also came from Midas Maltese and I've been very happy with all three of my girls! I have my first litter on the way and I can only hope to maintain the same quality.
I never thought I'd be one of those people who cared about champion lines, but you know what? I care about them!

well, well..looks like it's much easier to get a Maltese in USA than in Italy. After all they are still pretty rare here in Italy. My first Maltese-boy - Ray -came from a breeder when I was 2 years old (he left us when he was 15); Maryloup, my girl, came also from a breeder (13 years together...), and now I'm waiting to pick up a puppy-boy from another breeder. I can't live without a Malt!! By the way, Italians breeders never allow you to pick up the puppy sooner than the 3rd month and, what I really appreciate is that all of them keep giving you help and advice even after years.
Andrea I really like your precious Nemo and I feel to say he's very lucky too.

well, well..looks like it's much easier to get a Maltese in USA than in Italy. After all they are still pretty rare here in Italy.
I gave the wrong url here, DOH *tosses back blonde hair*
it's http://www.midismaltese.com NOT midasmaltese
Sorry Dian!

I met my breeder while I was exhibiting a Maltese for Mystic Maltese (Paula Frank) who by the way is a great person/friend and breeder. My first personaly owned Maltese was from Midis Maltese (Dian Lynch) my second -third- well long story short, all my babies are from Dian I love them all dearly including devil dog Rosie :lol2:

I've recently bought a show boy off of Dian Lynch as well. His "official" show name is MiDis Ace in the Hole, call name Ace. He is now 7 months old and growing coat and training me very well ! :lol2: We are taking Confirmation class every Tuesday and we're learning the ropes together.
I do love Dian's babies and Dian of course:hearter: She is an excellent mentor. And I must say CathyB has been a wonderful mentor/friend too. Thanks Cathy!

LONG ago that was the very first breeder I contacted about a Maltese for my daughter. I LOVED the name of their Kennel. Since I first contacted them, they have now "divided" and one side is down here in South Florida. They have very nice looking Malts.
Nice to know where Lizzy is from, she is BEAUTIFUL.
enJOY!

Just to add about Glory, she was bred by Susie P at Chalet, then sold to Denise of Dar Lynn's as a Show pup. And now I am fortunate enough to have her as my lil Princess. :D THANK YOU Denise!
enJOY!
