Well Cody will be here in exactly 9 days :hearter: I need to buy him a crate. My problem is do I give him Mia's and get her a new one? She is potty trained so I think I can get her a bigger one. Cody is not yet fully potty trained. I rigged Mia's current crate with a floor that has slates and is elevated just in case she made a mistake it would go to the bottom pan.

Should I just get him a new one and rig it also....swap hers for a another bigger new one....or just take out her divider.

Also he is bigger than she is. I have her in a 24x18x21 should I go a size bigger 30x21x24 for him or her?

I don't want her to get jealous either????:( :(

Suggestion please!

JMO..........but the crate is "HER" house and so I would get a bigger one and rig it for the new kid on the block, Cody!!!! She has her smells and and she is use to the crate you have been using for her. And it sounds like he may need the bigger one. She will not be jealous of the crate...........maybe of mommy but not the crate!!!! :p :p

I need some help and advice. Bella will be 11 months old on August 2nd and I have not had the heart to put her in her crate, I have always kept her in my spare bathroom with a gate up, well, here lately is chewing the door facing and now the gate that is up and I worry about her getting sick from it. I am thinking about putting her in her crate while I am at work or gone. She has been really good about holding her pee and poo since she was 6 months old, she waits til I get home to use her pads, even tho she has a pad in the room with her. I just worry about putting her in the crate at almost 11 months old..................WHAT DO YOU THINK ANYONE???? Got any suggestions? I thought about the Bitter Apple Spray......

Rather than go to the extreme of doing the crate, try the bitter apple (cheaper than a crate) and if that doesn't work, then move on to doing the crate. She will get use to it. If she is totally housebroken and pee pad trained, is there any reason you do not let her have free roam of the house? But there are a lot of dog lovers that use the crate with great success. Be sure if you crate her not to put a collar on her or leave anything in the cage she could hurt herself. She may fight the crate at first but she will adapt.

I have two crates but never use them except when we travel (took it on our last adventure but never took it out of the trunk of the car). But 99% of the time we take them wherever we go when we take road trips.

OH and all of this is JMO.

I had thought about leaving her out but I am thinking she is still too young and will start chewing on my kitchen chairs or something else like electrical cords. I may put her in her crate today for just a little bit while I run an errand to get some Bitter Apple. Do you leave yours out while you are away? And, if so, do they get into anything? I really appreciate your reply to me. Bec Bec

Both of mine have full run of the house while we are out and they never get into anything. Of course mine are older and they do have each other to play with. Kallie is almost 5 and Toby will be 2 in a few months. But if your baby is a chewer, you do run the risk of her finding something to chew on if you let her free roam and injure herself or your valuables..........she may get bored alone and get herself into trouble just like a skin kid would do.

I crated both Mia & Cody until the other day. My son made the mistake of letting them out one day when they were whinning to get out since then I can't keep them in there with the door latched. So I have them in their room with a baby gate and their beds, I make sure any cords are not in their reach. Mia still sleeps in her crate but the door has to be open.....I guess she feels secure in there. You can always get an xpen or baby gate her in the are where it is ok for her to go to.

I crated Nemo and it helped alot, I trusted him at about 11 months to roam free in the house.

Macy & Jazzy have free run of the house all the time until bedtime then all I say is are you guys ready to go nite-nite?? they both run to "their" crate get in then turn and wait for me to give goodnight kisses and shut the door.

I just got them this new bed/crate a few weeks ago until then they slept in separate crates.
