It's great we have new members joining up:cheer:. However, there are some that join not yet having a Maltese furbaby asking for information on breeders, it is fantastic that they would like more information on purchasing a Maltese. Is it wrong to put up a pinned thread with a link to different Maltese breeders? Could we even put up links to rescues? I'm just asking. I thought it would be nice for new members to go to this thread first and do their research. For me sometimes, I don't see the new member's post till the next day or later in the evening, I wouldn't want them to think we're not answering their posts. Please let me know if this is inappropriate to ask and admin can delete this post if it is. THANK YOU! :)

I don't think it's inappropriate. I think it's a good idea, and maybe have a section dedicated directly about breeders and rescues where they can post as well.

at what point is it deemed appropriate for a breeder to notify a buyer that a pup has a 'tiny' umbilical hernia? not a breeder myself but i think it is unfair for a breeder to tell you just days before your pup is scheduled to ship that, oh, by the way, the pup has a tiny umbilical hernia and then suggest that the pup should have a few stiches when being fixed. supposed you never intended to have your pup fixed? and then to keep your deposit if you don't want the responsibility of a 'tiny' umbilical hernia. HELP! this will make the SECOND time this year that i have been scammed by a breeder.

I dont think a tiny umbilical hernia is anything to worry about although i would have thought that the breeder maybe should have informed you about it! What age is the pup?

Wonderful idea Ashley. It would be a good resource.
About the umbilical hernia, it may have been so small that the breeder did not know it was there until the vet found it. I myself have not had a baby with one yet (knock on wood). I am a bit paranoid about them. That is one of the reason's that I cut the cord myself instead of letting the mom take care of it.

well, i am glad to have you guys. the breeder says she didn't notice it until this final check up and neither did the vet. the pup is 8 weeks old. i don't know anything about hernias so i feel better now. so there should be no ongoing medicals or anything?

Well I am not a breeder (Becky will know more about this) and not a vet, but from what I understand you can have the umbilical hernia fixed in the same time you spay the pup. And that will be it. It's more less like on the boys when their testicles are not descended, they have to go look for them. It does not affect their overall health.
