Here are some great ideas for some fun with your pups...
Flying Saucers
get some exercise into treat time by tossing rice cakes (a la frisbee) for your dog to chase. It's a low calorie treat that packs a big crunch without padding the waist line.
Freeze Chews
soak a doggie rope toy in water, and then freeze it. This is a great summertime teat that is good for teething puppies.
Hansel & Gretel
leave a trail of plain popped popcorn around the house or yard.
Daddy Longlegs
form your fingers into your best spider imitation and lightly massage your dog from head to toe.
Blow Bubbles
Lawrence Welk fans (some of you will remember him!) found soap bubbles soothing. Watch your pup leap and snap.
Beam Me Up, Scotty
if your pup is beyond their squeaky toys, invest in a laser pointer or use an old fashioned flash light. Your pup will go crazy chasing the light.
Teach Your Dog to Smile...Literally!
start by lifting your dog's lips to inspect his teeth and gums, all the while repeating the word "Smile!" With time, he will curl his lips back on command, and before you know it, you'll truly have a smiling dog.
Pupsicle
next time you are preparing an ice-cube tray, drop a kibble into each well before before it freezes.
Lord of the Rings
still have that hula hoop? Start with the hoop low to the ground, and toss a treat through. As your dog gets the idea, gradually raise the hoop until your dog is leaping through.
Incoming
use a slingshot or spoon to catapult nuggets or kibble across the yard.
Lower -Ear Noogies
this is a tried-true massage location. The ears are very sensitive area. At the base of the ear, gently rub your knuckles in true noogies fashion. (To make a noogie, form a half fist with your knuckles sticking out.)
Inner-Ear Noogies
Put your hand in noogie position, and with knuckle of your middle finger, rub the little piece of cartilage that juts out at the enterance to the inside of your dog's ear.
You Are Getting Sleepy
using your index finger, slowly stroke the bridge of the nose in direction of the hair growth.
The Thumper
cupping your hand slightly, use your fingertips to rapidly scratch your dog on his side, just where the ribs end. You'll see your dog thumping his rear leg is sheer delight.
Expressive Eyebrows
the eyebrows are extremely relaxing massage points on a dog. Rub their eyebrows gently in small circles.
Hope you enjoy some of these little fun things to do with your pup!!
