Black nails

Ok ladies, I am so proud of myself that I actually cut Lexi's nails. It was easier than I thought it would be but she has a few black nails and I'm really not sure how far to cut them because I have no idea where the quick is. Does anybody else have a Malt with black nails? My other 2 don't have any. :confused:

Nope but my JiJa and Lil' Man have black nails. I have to use the nail grinders for them. Now if I take too long to cut them and they curl, I cut right where it curls and then use the grinder.

Belle has both white nails and black. I just take the same amount off the black ones as I do the white ones. The quicks grow pretty much evenly.
I have to do all 3 of mine this week. I can do Rosie and Sammy anytime but Denny has to hold Belle is a head lock for me to cut hers.:lol2: No not really a head lock but close to it.

All my malts have the white nails but Toby's nails are all black. I usually cut the same amount of each nail and so far so good! But man do I ever hate cutting black nails. UGH!

Zoie just has one and just like the others said I just cut the same amount off as the others.

It's good to know she's not the only one with black nails. I was really surprised to see them. I wonder why that happens. :confused:

Mitzy has both white and black nails too!!

I only take a TINY bit off every time I cut. Also my vet told me if you walk your dogs everyday on like a sidewalk or something of that texture the nails will stay trimmed because they "grind" on the cement ;) Pretty neat!!

My little Daisy has some grey nails. Like Carol, I cut the same amount as I do for the white nails. I always keep septic powder close by just in case.

That's interesting! I never heard that before. My Lexi has desirable nails!! :D

Alex's nails were mostly white and I had no trouble cutting them. Charlie is another story. They are all black. If they are really long, I will cut a little bit but if possible I wait that he goes to the grooming lady to have it done. Alex also was more cooperative than Charlie is.

Interesting to me, too! Teddy Bahr has one black nail and the rest light....I thought he had an injury! :tongue:

I read on another forum once black nails are preferable in Maltese. Sasha has all black and Lola has a mix of white and black.
