How old was your fluff when they fully had potty training down. Inside or out. Zoie still hasn't got it down yet at 6 months. She knows when shes outside shes suppose to go and does but if shes inside and has to go she also does! And she doesn't even think she will get in trouble for it :/

Hmmm..this is a tough one! Lexi is 8 months and she is pad trained and is doing fairly well with it. She gets LOTS and LOTS of praise when she does her business on her pad and she also gets a treat which really seemed to motivate her. At first, we were just praising her and found that she would go on the pad some of the time and other times, she would go wherever she wanted! Bought some dried chicken breast and bam! That girl was motivated!! She has had an occasional accident, but for the most part, *fingers crossed* she's got it down. Hope I didn't just jinx myself! :o

Kodie, well that boy is a whole other story. He's going to be 3 in March and if I let him, he would mark in the rooms he isn't normally allowed in. He's pad trained and outdoor trained. He is pretty good using the pad (well, he does think it counts if he has one paw on the pad and the rest goes on the floor!!!) But, he doesn't have full run of the house due to his marking and the fact that he can't do steps.

Nikki is 4 years old and came to me at 7 months pad trained - or so the breeder said. He would pee all over the place except his pad!! Hubby got a little upset by that and insisted he go outside and ever since then, he's been really good. So, I'm not really sure when the exact age he was when he was trained. I do know one thing, Maltese are VERY hard to potty train!! Yikes!!

Great idea for a poll!

Oh, and I only answered the poll for Lexi!

Tessa (yorkie) was trained within 3-4 months. She will jump off the bed just to get to a potty pad. Daisy (maltese) took about 6-8 months before she was fully housebroken. I figure she would pick up after her sister since they both go together (& do almost everything together). My girls are both indoor & outdoor potty trained (either when they need to or on command) but because we currently reside in an apartment on 2nd floor, mostly indoors for now until we move into a house :)

Emma will be 3 on Monday. Most of the time, she uses her potty or pad (although she, too, thinks it "counts" as long as one paw is on the pad...thank goodness that it's on a tile floor!) However, every now and then, she will randomly pee on the floor, sometimes within sight of her pad/potty, for no apparent reason. I think potty training has been the single most frustrating thing of having a Maltese.

Well I don't know how to answer this.

They are potty train inside but they do very well outside. Saying that, I can tell you they can't tell the difference from a pad and a rug. They love my bathroom rug

I want to say JiJi got the concept at 3 months but it's still not perfected. JiJa and Lil' Man pretty much came train but again not perfected.

Hi,
Im new to the forum today and came looking for some tips.
We already have a yorkie (little boy) who is pee pee pad trained and he too thinks it counts with just his front paws on the pad so we have put the pad on a box now and that works.
2 days ago we got our female maltese who is 13 weeks. i know i shouldnt expect her to be trained already but i think about 75% of the time sh has been on the pad. twice peed in the living room and once pooed under the livign table. if she is in her room, she will use the pad and had only missed twice so far.
the of the times she missed, her big brother came into her room to poo on the box and she decided to copy him and do anyone but this time on the box.

im hoping she will continue to learn from him:)

Hi there and welcome! :) You have come to the right place for tips and advise!

Sounds like your little girl is doing great for 13 weeks. Hopefully she will continue to watch her big brother and learn from him. What kind of a box did you put the pad in? I have a tray but my Kodie still seems to be able to pee with one paw on and he still misses some of the time which is super frustrating.

Please post some pics of your babies! We would love to see them! :D

Potty trained? What is that?

No I'm kidding

Mitzy has been outside only potty trained and does really well. Occasionally she will poop in the house but only if we don't let her within a certain time frame after she has eaten.

To answer your question I think she was fully trained around a year old. Oh, and she still pees on my porch outside  Not sure how to break that other than clean the porch everyday..

im not sure of the name or brand of the pee pee pad case but when i say box, i mean just a regular plastic box. this way they have to step up onto the box so there no is way only 1 or 2 paws on could be ok.

i have tried to upload pics but they are too big. i will try again asap!

Belle was hard to train until we figured out she wanted one pad to pee on and one to poop on. then it went pretty well and she was totally trained by 5 months. Sammy came already trained at 14 weeks. His breeder's puppies are already trained when they go to their new homes. He still makes me mad though cause he's one of those "one foot counts" guys:mad: Either that or he thinks it's bigger than it is and stands at the edge of the pad and misses about half of it. Rosie of course was trained when we adopted her.
Do any of your girls lift their legs? Belle started that when we still had our Lab and I swear she learned it from him. But, now Rosie also lifts her leg...they are all weird;)

Hmmmm....I'm interested to see what this looks like.

I have this pee pad holder and I thought it would work for Kodie who is the leg lifter around here. He lifts that leg so high and proud it's not even funny. I thought for SURE he wouldn't be able to pee off the side of this thing, but somehow he's managed....

Those are neat Lori. That's why I put a big fat rock in the middle so he has something to aim.
