But there was not other way to handle his hair all in knots.
He is still cute, even as a rainworm! :)

Well, frankly, I was personally against having a dog. All credits goe to my wife, whose idea that was, and who was looking for a small, non-sheding dog for couple of months, until she recognised that Casey was the ONE! :-) It took me 1 day to agree with her - both on having a dog, and on Casey. Usually my wife has a vision, and my eyes are turned to the past. :)

I also like the second picture in the last set. He has something in his mouth?

Casey looks adorable! I had to have my Chipper cut about that length too. His hair was really hard to manage. I think they look really cute this way and it doesn't take long to grow out, Chipper has been this short several times.

Here is one important question we have at the moment about our 12 year old Casey.

His hair was pretty much neglected, and so much entangled, that he had to have this short haircut. His skin is pretty much pink, and the groomer said it is DRY.

1. What color is the skin of your maltese?

2. Is this pink color a sign that something is wrong with his skin?

3. Is there some cream that is recommended for dry skin for maltese that we should use? He was licking himself often today, after grooming, taking the opportunity of his short hair....

And I forgot to report: his blood work turned out to be FINE! Vet called today.

He is soooo adorable!! The groomer did a great job, he looks 10 years younger!! I love that cut on him!!

Their skin should be pink, that is normal for maltese, as long as it is a healthy pink, not an irritated pink or red.
As for cream, I do believe there is a lotion you can put on dogs. I bought it for my cocker who had problems.
But the biggest thing that will help his skin is to make sure that he is on a good diet. Oh and use a really good shampoo and conditioner, one that has fatty acids in it because it will really help his dry skin!!

Yes their skin is pink:p if his skin is dry you might trying bathing him with an oatmeal shampoo that will help ease his dry skin.

Wow!! Very cute :) Everyone's right, Casey looks so young in those pictures after the grooming. He looks like a pup! Very impressive, and I'm glad the bloodwork came back fine!

I love the "rainworm" look. I think long hair is gorgeous but shorter is easier to take care of and looks adorable. I definitely think he looks happier;) I'm new to the site and your comments have made me curious so I'm going to find his story.

Kallie has very pink skin and so being in Florida, her "pink" complexion can easily burn so we:) are very careful with her.

Ok, maybe not a rainworm, but with this pink skin visible through his thin hair he looks a bit like a small piglet! :-)

Casey turned out to be a fantastic dog! We could not hope for a better one. He does not want to run away, so we go outside in our backyard without leash. He comes to us when we call him. We just gave him his first bath at home and he was behaving like a royal dog! No complaints. Now he looks fresh, white, and fluffy. His hair growth started to be visible after one week from grooming. He sleeps in our son's bad, in our daughter's bed, and in our bedroom in his bag for transportation. We keep him free in the car and he behaves well. When we have to leave him alone at home for couple of hours he behaves well. In short - he is an ideal dog!

We got Casey's papers today from his previous owner. And, you are all right!!!
Casey is NOT 12 years old !!! He is ONLY 11 years old !!!:)

And we got his family tree, which is quite impressive!

We take him tomorrow to the vet for dental work.
