A Uniontown boy has been charged with animal cruelty by a humane officer who said he hanged his pit bull in a cemetery after it repeatedly defecated in his family's home.
The 16-year-old youth, who lives in Uniontown, was charged after a man who was walking his own dog Wednesday morning discovered the teen's dog hanging from a tree in Clearview Cemetery in Uniontown's East End.
Humane Officer Robin Moore, of the Noah's Ark of Fayette County shelter in North Union, said the dog was hanged by its leash and appeared to have struggled for some time before it died.
Moore said the dog, which was found hanging about 20 feet in the air, apparently tried to swing its body and brace its feet on a nearby wall of the cemetery but did not succeed.
