Please help new puppy owner - yellowish coat?

I'm so excited to own my first Maltese Raja! I just got him a few days aga and he is 12 weeks old and sweet as can be! When I bought him he was a little yellowish in color, and the breeder told me that would fade with a few washes and that he would lose his puppy fuzz for a full adult white coat. Is this true? I have washed him twice already and he is still "cream", not "white". She also told me that the whitening shampoos don't really help. I am hoping this gets better with time because the white coat is why i fell in love with malteses. PLEASE HELP!

Bentley has some yellowing too. He is 14 weeks old so in a few months he will start getting his adult coat and it should fade. Be sure not to bathe too often or he could get dry skin. Bathe once a week unless he is really dirty. I found that with Bentley that bathing him did not really help with the yellowing. I did try a whitening shampoo and it did not help either. I guess we will have to wait for them to loose the puppy coat. I thought about grooming Bentley and taking some of the fuzz off, but it is so cute I can't bear to cut it.

I know, I feel the same way! The fuzz is just soo cute! Bentley is adorable! I will have to figure out how to post pics and get Raja on here soon. I have his vet appt tomorrow, so I will ask him too.

Lots of maltese are not pure white and some maltese have lemon or cream colors on their ears or patches in their coat and this is accepted in the maltese standard. His coat probably will fade as time goes by and it grows out. It may never be pure white. But this is not a bad thing. It is actually a sign of very good pigment.

Kallie has some tanning on her ears when she is wet but not when she is dry?:confused: :confused: But we adopted her when she was two so I have no idea what her coat looked like when a puppy!!! But if she was tanned all over, I wouldn't care..........she's the greatest!!!:hearter:
