What grooming products does everyone use, i.e., shampoo, hair rinse, etc. Is it best to rotate products especially during the summer verses winter months? I clean Bailey’s face every morning with a warm cloth but I don’t use any soap—just water.

My husband wants me to get Bailey a puppy cut which I think does look so cute but I’m afraid it’s too late in the summer and he might get chilly this winter. North Florida does get a few cold days and I’m concerned the air conditioning might be too cool. When he was 3 months or so he did look so cute with short hair. If his hair is cut will the texture be like when he was just a pup—see attached picture. Bailey is only 9 ˝ months now.

Thanks for your help,

What a cute baby!!

I have heard so many rave reviews on Bless the Beast products. I will be trying that next. I just got the Chris Christensen products, the ice on ice works great as a detangling spray, but I don't know that I care for it too much otherwise.

As far as getting chilly in the winter if he has a puppy cut, that's what cute clothes are for ;) He'd still get chilly even with his hair being long as they don't have an undercoat. The texture is probably going to change a little as he gets older due to his grown up hair coming in, not due to the haircut. It seems that right around 9 months their adult hair starts coming in. It's a little different for all of them, but my mom's male is about 10 months now and you can tell the ends are baby hair and the roots are nice and silky smooth, he also seemed to shed it and mat for a short time.

Thanks for your help,

I had to laugh when I saw this post. Sassy has more hair care products than I do, and I am a licensed hair stylist (although I do not work at it anymore). Let's see here, I use at least 5 different shampoos on Sassy. Two different conditioners, a detangler, 2 different cream rinses. Yes, all in one bath. I start with a shampoo that I know will really cleanse her. It is my personal shampoo by Biolage. To that I add a little blue shampoo (doggie soapless do not remember the name right now). After I lather that up I sometimes do her with an oatmeal shampoo to soothe her skin just in case she might need it. I shampoo her face with a tearless baby shampoo by L'Oreal and after I rinse all of that out I finish her with Pantene with conditioner. After rinsing I towel dry her and add: Silk conditioner, Paul Mitchell Silk, and Biolage detangler and I massage her a little to keep her from getting too cold. I try to leave this on her for about 5 minutes. Then we rinse and rinse and rinse and oh yes, did I say rinse...haha and when I think I have her rinsed good I rinse her some more. Sassy will actually lay down under the faucet. She likes the water falling down on her. I guess she thinks she is under a waterfall. I have to make sure she is totally rinsed or the conditioner left over in her hair will make it grabby. After rinsing completely I wrap her in about 3 towels and hole her for about 5 minutes. Then I take her into the laundry room (this is where I blow her dry. I put the ear cleaning drops in her ears and we begin out 1 1/2 hour blow drying session. While I am combing/brushing her as she drys I periodically spray my comb/brush with detangling spray. She comes out so soft, and silky and she smells great. Her vet says he has never smelled a little doggie that smells as good as Sassy. :D I hope we did not wear you out reading about Sassy's day of beauty which has to be done weekly. Hmmmm  I don't know when I last had a day of beauty. haha :p

Hi:

I'm new here, but I am a member of yorkietalk and I don't actually have a maltese. But I'm definelty thinking of getting one. I have a 4lb yorkie little boy and want to get a female maltese. Not interested in breeding at all.
I have ordered the CC system products and will probably receive them in the next couple of days, I will let you know how they work for me!
PS: All your doggies are just gorgeous, can't wait to have one also!!

For Chelsey and Chester We use Bless the Beast detangler shampoo to prevent the matts and remove them. Right now chelsey is in a puppy cut.
I'm not sure if I will grow it out for winter again. It use to take me 2 hours to groom her . Hair cut and trim nails and stuff with her long coat now it only 30 min. I think i like 30 min better.

Chester our yorkie is in a meduim coat and I groom him in 15 to 30 min as he has slilky hair takes less time to dry him. They both get brushed once a week when they take there baths.

For Chelsey we also use Proline shelf rinse for quick wipe ups like paws and stuff if she gets a little dirty and it is not time for a bath yet.
I also use proline conditioner whiterner; it does a great job and does not dry out the coat.
At the end of there bath they get a quick massage with Bless the beast FUR POLISH POMADE, that also leave the coat nice and soft.

I have some other stuff as well for Chester and Chelsey but I only use them occasionally when required. They definitely have more hair products then me.

I think bless the beast and proline are my favorites so far.

Has anyone tried the CC white on white shampoo? If so, what do you think. Does it really work well of is it just and advertising gimmick? Supposed to really brighten whites coats.

Hi,
I like the 50/50 water & Downy as final rinse after the shampoo too.
I read on the other line about it preventing fleas and it just smells good.
Just rinse it off good.

I alternate shampoo, whitening, oatmeal, etc...

Also I use a tea shirt that has a little cute print on it for my babies in the winter after they get a new hair cut. They like their little shirts too.
