House training

My maltese, Coco, is 15 weeks old, and we have been working on going potty outside. Sometimes, she has no problem going outside when we take her. We are trying to teach her to ring a bell when she has to go. But, many times, she is out and we wait for a long time, and she does nothing. Then, when we come in, within minutes she has peed on the rug. Any suggestiopns about what to do? Or, is this something I just have to wait out?

They all do this, it's just a part of the training process:p
Feed her, wait 10 minutes and DON"T come in till she goes, I know it's hard but it's so worth it. When she does go make a BIG deal out of it and pet her and give her a treat, believe me before you know it she will have it down..

Hello Whitney,
Okay, JMO, but always use the same command word for going potty so she knows what you want her to do.........no confusion as to why you are going outside! And continue to tell her to potty while outside and then tell her she is a good girl while doing her business. Always take a treat with you and reward verbally again after she has finished. Reward her with lots of pats and then reward with a small treat. Also try keeping her on a leash (if you aren't already) to keep her in the same area so her scent is strong to encourage her to go again and limit her to the potty area only; no wondering around. I do the 10 minute outside limit to potty and then bring them in and watch them like a hawk or else hold them. Then in another 10 min take them out and try again. Just as there is a bath time, a feeding time, a play time, a sleeping time, there has to be a potty time. Be observant as to her water intake. Patience and persistence pays off!

Also any mistakes in the house need to be cleaned so no odors linger for her to smell and encourage her to go in the house.
