Hi all,
I'm new to MT. I will be getting my baby girl (Lola) end of June...well...end of July. I read they are not to come home till they are 12 weeks old, she will be 8 weeks old in the end of June. I have lots of questions about training, feeding etc.

Thanks zeek's mom and morkie4. I have questions about feeding, I am considering feeding Lola raw (primal raw food) do you have any opinions on that. I am also learning about house training, do i need to get up q 2 hrs at night to take her potty? I plan on using doggie pads. What is nutracal?

I am going to post a link here to some helpful information on my website. Hopefully it will help. About the food, I am afraid to tell you any certain kind to feed the baby because of all of the recalls....Sorry.

Hi and Welcome to MT! We are more than happy to help with your questions!
LB is pad trained and I started off by putting pads almost everywhere. Then, when we weren't home, I would put LB in her crate. Now she's fully housetrained and she goes outside as well when we go for our walks.
Good luck to you.
BTW, are you in the medical field?

Hi and welcome...I crate at night and they go outside during the day to potty every 3 to 4 hrs now. Nutracal is a supplement given to picky eaters or puppies that suffer from low sugar. It should be given sparingly since you don't want them to reject their normal food. You can also give Karo syrup if needed for low sugar also.
Alot of toy breeds are picky eaters so it's trial and error on the food they like especially now since you have fewer choices. It's up to you to free feed or schedule the feedings (at least 2 or 3x a day for puppies). What ever works best for you. You should keep water readily available all day though.
Consistancy is the key to potty training. (1st thing in the morning, after playing, after napping & before retiring at night has worked pretty good for me)
You shouldn't potty train outside until all shots are given (especially parvo) and no taking them out to Petsmart or dog park until fully vaccinated. JMO
Search the threads you will find alot more info.
Good Luck....I hope I didn't get you dizzy with to much info......LOL

Good Luck,

Natural Balance Potato and Duck is not only for adult dogs but is also good for puppies. It is also and "allergy forumula" dog food! Both my Yorkie and Maltese love the product! But there are a lot of great products out there, I just found this one to work really well with my kids!!
Kallie and Toby agree!

The pottying at night is different with every dog. My Maltese has slept through the night since I brought her home. :D My Yorkies are able to make it all night, but sometimes they use the potty pads.

Mine both sleep all night but on a rare occasion if I feed them late, then Toby has to go potty in the wee hours of the moring around 4:30AM.........so it is also a matter of what schedule you have them on.
