Ok im for ever checking a website here that sells different breeds of puppys. Very rarly you see some maltese for sale. Well I spotted an add earlier saying they had 2 for sale, so I give the fella a call. he in formed me that he only had 2 boys that the little female died. Ach i told him that was very sad, and he replied ach not to worry this happens all the time.:( Ok I thought maybe he just isnt very tactful. So I was explaining how i have been searching for a malt forever. He must have seen pound signs when I said this, because he then went on to say, if i wanted he would take my number and give me a call in a few days as he will be selling his 3 5yro BITCHES. (I hate that word) I asked him why, and he said ach you know what happens when they get to this age, you can no longer breed them and he wouldnt be allowed to register the pups. OMG i thought these poor babies, he has breed them to death and now they are no good for breeding anymore he is just gona sell them off. OK I understand that some people have a breeding programme and have to sell on the mothers when the breeding stops, but like all 3 of them. Whats wrong with this guy. He then went on to say that he has 3 12mth old females to breed in about 6mths. I was speechless, I just ended up hanging up on him. These little things are so rare here, and when somone gets a chance to get one they breed the little things to death. How awful is that. :mad: . After much research and help from a show breeder, I decided I wanted to maybe breed, which i done with my Missy, and loved it so much that I might breed her again, if the time is right. I mean she is coming into heat now,and i wouldnt even consider it because she has just recovered from her first litter.
You no am sorry now that i hung up, because i am actully thinking I could give 1 of those little girls a great home. Some people just make me really :mad: , you can tell he is just in it for the money and nothing else. Sorry for going on girls, I just fell so sorry for these wee females.

You know Harriet there are more people in it to line the old pocket than we would ever realise. It is very sad that these poor innocent creatures are treated any such a way. But it happens more times than not. Look at this link I found on another website just this morning. It seems that breeders are doing the same thing to breeders and it is a very sad situation.

Is this a breeder in Ireland, you know you could look at it in a different way that he is actually looking out for them to rehome them at 5 years of age as i think the Kennel club rules are 8 years of age or has had 6 litters but it all depends on what conditions these wee ones are kept in & if he is active in showing:(

This is shocking, to send a bitch on a plane when she is due to give birth:mad: & with mange:mad: terrible!!!!

Is it me or is it common practice to send in Whelp dogs on planes, i thought that once they are pregnant you try & do your best to protect them from any enviroment that could harm or distress them????

I have had many conversations on the phone and in emailing with her and she has never ever mentioned this situation. Yet along she has mentioned several other things. I saw this website but to be honest with you it is not for me to be judge and jury. I have found that being in the show community can get very very nasty. People say and do things that I would never imagine that they had it in them. And for the life of me I just can not understand how anyone can be so cruel.

Andrea I do not want anyone involved. It is my problem and mine to handle. Not everyone else's. I appriciate the friendships that I have here and that is why I am here. Not to try and turn anyone against another breeder. Heck as long as we (breeders) all have the same goal in mind to better the breed I dont see anything wrong with any of us. And in my opinion that is what she is doing.

I will be happy to tell you the other side of the story. I am not surprised by this posting, as I have been receiving threats that something like this would happen for several months. I have a problem with another breeder, and I had no choice but to go to AKC with it. I was told over and over that if I did, I would be ruined in Maltese. Well, I chose to move forward because I had no choice. I chose to do it through legal means, but the other party chose to go forward with her threats. She had her friend post that threat, and she has since sent it out, as I've already gotten an email from another breeder.
Now, as for my breeding practices: Yes, I was a pet breeder at one time. The person who I looked up to and who I thought was there to help me with Maltese (MiDis Maltese) had six breeds when I met her. Both of us saw, as time went on, that it was not the way to be a reputable breeder, and both of us made changes.
Now, about the allegations on that site:
The adult dog did not have mange. She was at my vet's the day prior to her being shipped. She could not have passed a healt check if she did. The man had been waiting for the dog for several weeks, but it was very cold, and she could not be shipped. He was insistant on her getting there, even though I offered to keep her until after she had the pups and it was safe for them to travel. I even paid for the shipping, and he was to refund the cost, and I would send the papers. But, he started sending me threats instead of money, so I still have the papers.
The two pups were sold as pets, not for breeding. The woman lied to me. One was for her friend, and one for her. I later found out she was a breeder, and she refused to send proof of spay, so her papers are still here.
I am moving forward with AKC and my complaint. I'm sure this can only get nastier, if it continues like this. I don't know how many of you have seen the movie "War of The Roses", but it's about a couple who kept on trying to destroy the other that they killed each other. I would like for AKC to deal with this, but, I will not sit back and let someone with a long history themself move forward trying to destroy me.

Faye, I have a question? Why did he want to buy a pregnant dog.......if he was suppose to spay her afterwards? Was your agreement to have one litter then spay? Just curious.

Also way is breeding so cut throat? I don't know why breeders are competative shouldn't it be the handlers if anyone? Why try to damage someones reputation? Shouldn't the goal be to have a dog to be show quality.........aren't the judges there to judge the dogs and the handlers and not the breeders? I don't know how it works behind the scenes but what is going on here is very childish and immature.

Please ask any questions you want of me. I have nothing to hide. In fact, I've been living with this about being a pet breeder for years, and it feels so good to know that the truth is out. It is unfortunate that it had to come out like this, but I'm tired of all the threats I have been receiving.
The two pups were sold as pets. They were never intended for breeding. The person lied to me.
I did not plan for the older dog to be bred. However, I was going through a very bad time, both personally and professionally, and it happened. This man was someone another breeder had dealings with, and we later found out he was not what he represented himself to be. At the time, the company I was working for had all funds frozen, and I was making no money. Quite frankly, I needed to sell her to pay some bills. I thought she was getting a good home, and the pups would be cared for. Apparently I was wrong.
Not everyone in this business is like this. I have some very good friends who are handlers as well as breeders. I will tell you that I am not the only one who has had similiar problems with the breeder I am in conflict with now. Becky and I have a friend who has a very sad story to tell. It's been posted on other sites before, along with pictures.
Now, if anyone wonders why I haven't been showing, it's because I am still trying to get back on my feet financially. I sold ten Maltese last year, and I've sold 5 this year. That buys dog food, but it sure doesn't pay handling fees.
If there are other questions, I will be happy to answer.

I would like to add a little more information about the time I did the other breeding. I started this when my last child left home to go to college. This was my therapy, and it was a joy to be able to do this. I gave up a lot in my life for this, and I never made any money on it. I always spent more than I made. I do not see breeding as a money making business. I know some do, but I don't even break even. Whether breeding pets or dogs that I hope are worthy of the ring, I invested my time in doing it to the best of my ability.

My Father is a Great Dane breeder since 1970. OH my gosh let me tell you, through him, I have seen all sorts of strange, odd and mean things done by people to "beat out" another breeder. My Father just recently passed his breeding program on to my brother and sister-in-law. Some people, not knowing who my sister-in-law is, have already tried to play mean with her. She is NOT a woman anyone would wish to mess with! She fights back and she is a big woman.

What I am trying to say, is that, some breeders, will cut the throat of any other breeders that they feel are in their way. I have seen the steely looks at Dog Shows... oh my gosh, you would think it was a do or die war at times.

Sad to us "pet" owners, coz all we do is love our dogs. And if we want another dog, TRY to find a breeder we can trust.
