with your babies? I watch Animal Planet alot well the fluff butts have it on when I'm at work and on the weekends they have dog shows and agility competitions. Mia has alot of energy and mellow Cody when outside is a maniac........SO....I was thinking of putting that energy to good use. I was thinking of buying this set http://www.affordableagility.com/agilityinbag.htm but how do I start with them? I don't see myself crawling through a tunnel and jumping thru hoops. Any ideas? I am thinking of joining a agility forum. Ever since the Maltese was featured in Dog Fancy and saw them jumping and running I got inspired with Mia. Any suggestions would be great!

You know Maggie, I have always loved watching dogs doing agility, it looks like a lot of fun. I have never heard of any clubs here, but im sure they have them somewhere in Ireland. You know my girls are so full of energy, I know they would be brilliant at it.
Hey Maggie I take it you have a big back to put this stuff into. And if you do get it make sure you take a video, cause im always up for a laugh. LOL

When Alex was younger I looked into it to find a place where they do agility but could not find one indoor. And there was no way I was going to sit in the heat and humidity and mosquitoes. I don't have space for the equipment at my house. And the places I found were at least half an hour drive from where we live and it was always at night (7 or 8 pm).

I haven't done agility with my dogs yet, but Peppi did go through some of the obstacles. She has done the jumps, the table and the weave poles. She hasn't tried out a chute or a seesaw or A frame. She loved the jumps and was very good at it. If she was younger I would take her through a course.
But I do hope do get some of them in agility. I was hoping to do it this summer but with moving and everything it doesn't look like we will have the time. But as soon as we do we are going to take some classes. Trixie would be great at agility, she is super fast and loves navigating around obstacles and loves jumping, she is the perfect agility dog. I would also like to try Sugar or Candie out with agility, they too love running and moving around obstacles, I am just not sure about the jumps with them.
So we will see who all will get to do agility but Trixie will for sure.

Let us know if you decide to take a class or get some of the equipment.

Just remember to make it fun and introduce them slowly to each obstacle!!

Hi--I've done agility classes with Perri just for fun. We've done levels 1 and 2, and it's so much fun. Perri really likes it. The classes are over until Fall though because of the heat, but I plan to start up again then. As far as tips, I can't imagine doing the training without a clicker. It's really essential and makes the learning process a lot easier. Also, you have to start out really slowly and gradually introduce the different obstacles to them. Of course the kind in that kit are only a few of what a normal course would have so it wouldn't take as long. Let's see, the weaves take awhile to learn because according to my trainer it's the only thing in agility a dog wouldn't do naturally. Honestly though if I were you I'd take at least one level of classes so both of you could learn the basics, and learn about clicker training as well. For the same price as that little kit I took two levels of classes for a total of 14 weeks. ($80 each round of 7 classes) I only made 12, but still. For the same price you could have the trainer and a full course. Being in a place like Miami I'm sure you could find a place fairly easily--many places that do obedience will also offer agility just check around. Just my 2 cents. :)

I doubt you could Kallie to do anything in agility with her long coat but maybe if I cut it (NOT), she would be more willing but I do love watching the agility runs when they come on TV. Now Toby would be a different story........he has enough energy and would do great...........it's me I'm too old and don't want to run them agility tests!!!!

But I think you should go for it and enjoy the fun that comes with it.:D

OK I finally took pictures of the park right next to my house. So what do you think about making this a mobile agility training course? The yellow house in the third picture is my house so you see how close it is.
