Hi everyone! I just joined MT a few days ago and I am a first-time poster. Eeeks. Anyways, I really wanted your opinion since you ladies know SO much more than I do. I've been searching for a reputable breeder near the Houston area. I've stumbled upon many BYB and what I think was a puppymill?! I haven't found a breeder I liked, until I found out about Susen Kennedy. She seemed to say all the right things, but who knows? Has anyone had experience with Susen's Maltese in Cypress. You can PM if you don't want to post anything. I checked with Rhapsody and Pashes, but gosh, I don't have that kind of money! All I want is a healthy and happy beautiful Maltese! Anyways, thanks to all of you posters. I've really learned a great deal about breeders from you. Any advice/tips are welcome :)

What a small world. I bought Alex from Susan in July 1997. At that time she did not have a website and I found her through the newspaper. She did not show at the time either. But her babies were very well kept in x-pens in the kitchen. No cages. Her kids played with the pups. They were part of the family. The only thing I was disapointed with, is that she did not follow how the pup is doing after he was sold. Maybe now she does. Alex had an undescended testicle but since I had him neutered anyway it was no big deal. He also has luxating patellas (had them repaired with the cruciate ligament) but even the best of breeders can have pups with bad patellas. If Alex would not be such a jumper, he might not have had a problem with it. Climbing baby gates is not exactly recommended either. All in all Alex's health has been good. He is 10 years old now, has all his teeth, acts like a young pup. Would I buy from her again ? Yes but I would ask more questions then I did the first time. From the little I saw of her website (took a quick look) she also has raised her price quite a bit.

Sorry Andrea, I guess my crazy obsession with Maltese babies made me forget my manners! My name is Tara. Thanks everyone! From what I've heard she seems to be reputable. My greatest fear is being duped by a greedy, unethical breeder. We had a horrible experience with a BYB when buying our previous puppy (Golden Retriever). My family doesn't want to go through another painful loss. I'll def keep you updated!

Welcome to MT
When I first start searching for my maltese. I was looking into Susen's maltese since shes only 30 mins away from me. I emailed her inquiry on a female puppy. She send me a long email, I read through and everything sounds good. She seem like a very nice lady, care about her customer and maltese. But when got to the price list, I noticed the word Teacup would charge more. To me teacup is not a good sign. We have another member who got her boy there and hes really cute.
Good luck with your search.

Tara, welcome to this web site. Good luck in your hunt for a Maltese. In the long and short run you will be so much more happy that you took your time and did all the research you are doing.
Susen's dog's sure do look nice. I am VERY impressed she takes time with her clients and has made a book for them. Good for her.
enJOY!

you can tell hes mad at me for his bath hahaha.
Anyhow...i would love to hear for an update.
I asked Susen about the teacup thing before I got Swkooshee.
She says that every once in a while her dogs will throw an extra small puppy. She sells them automatically on spay/neuter contracts. You'll have to ask her as well.

I lost both of my maltese in a 2 day period. The baby Rachael had cushing that mask a large liver tumor. The big boy Bob had multiple myeloma. I was planning to wait
for awhile before getting a couple of friends. I did a google
search for Houston maltese breeders. Susen's maltese
appeared to be the closest to me. I called a breader in Buda. Did not appear to be to interested in getting back
with me after I left several messages. Talked to a breeder in Ft. Worth. Very nice lady. My only issue was that I was not planning to go to Ft. Worth in the near future. I talked
to Susen. She told me what she had. I was looking for
larger than standard. The 2 puppies that she had were
going to be smaller than what I had wanted. I set up an
appointment to look at the puppies. I talked to her for
3 to 4 hours prior to my appointment. Saw the puppies.
I now have Billybob and Mattie. My Vet had only good comments when he did his exam. His exact words were
"that I got a couple of winners." He said that that they were solid. No health problems. Susen really sets you up
so you can properly care for your puppies. Her book
informs you on a variety of issues. I have talked to her on numerous occassions since I got the puppies. I would
recommend Susen and her puppies to anyone looking
for a top notch breeder and puppies.:)
