I am not to sure of his name. Have any of you heard of this guy before? He is a dog psychologist trainer on the Discovery channel. He has his own show called DOG WHISPER and he seemed like a greater teacher to the dogs he trained. I am really interested in buying a training CD he offers. Do you guys know anything about him.

Many, many people "swear" by him. I have a never watched his show but I have seen some of his "teachings" and some of them I do not like at all. He is coming to Miami to do a huge show and a friend of mine got us VIP tickets to see him, she wants to try to convert me. hehehee

Who does not know Cesar Millan ! lol ! He has a show on National Geographic too. I watched a couple of shows last week. In a way, he uses a sort of clicker training too. But instead of using a clicker, he uses his fingers to make the click.

this guy was pretty insane, I guess he holds seminars too on how to train. I was interested in buying a video. What do you think?

I read his book Cesar's Way. It was very interesting and I'd recommend it. With him though, I think you have to take some stuff, and leave other stuff. For example he says your not supposed to let them jump up on you to greet you when you get home. You're to tell them to sit and then a walk and feed and then affection. Well Perri always jumps on me when I come home and I've always loved it, but I tried telling him to sit first for awhile before I would greet him. Well let me tell you Perri did not like that at all. He'd sit, but he get mad and bark at me. So, I still let him jump on me to greet me, as I think we're both secure in my role as alpha, and he's a very good dog. Now for someone who has an alpha dog, that would be different. So, worth the read, but you kind of have to tailor it to your needs.

Yup, I've heard of him. He's supposedly great at what he does. I think you can catch him occasionally on Animal Planet.

Yep I have heard of him and I don't care for him or his show one bit.
He might have a few good suggestions and techniques but a majority of them are way off base.
I do like the new show "it's me or the dog", the trainer there has some very good techniques and suggestions. The only problem I have with her is that she doesn't want you to baby the dog at all and she thinks it is ridiculous that you dress them. But other than that I like her techniques. They are definately a much kinder approach than Cesears. JMO.

What dogs really need is a calm-assertive pack leader not birthday parties, cute outfits or constant affection. Since most dogs are born into the follower role that means your dog is looking to you to provide the calm-assertive leadership that he’s hard-wired to seek.
But humans often develop a different plan for our dogs. We want to make them our babies or our family. When people see a nervous or shy dog, they console it like they would another human.
Geeze, after looking over his site I feel like such a faliure! I feel like I have done everything wrong! Granted, Mia is not very well trained (I am working on that though. She isnt a BAD dog, she just doesnt always listen.) I always seem to make excuses for her by saying she is just a pup, but she is! And she is my baby!

Krystal, pups grow up to be adults and then it's not fun anymore. If you let them do whatever they want as puppies, the day you want to change the behavior when they are adults it's going to be that much harder. The poor thing will have trouble understanding why suddenly it's not permitted anymore.

Oh Tracey, I love that show also. I think its so funny somethimes, I especally love to watch the dogs that will hump almost anything. I also love it when she has yorkies on, some of them can be sooooo spoiled its a shame, but its definitly not my girls, they are so good, not spoiled at all. LOL

I have his book and two of his DVD's and I subscribe to his monthly website newsletter. He has some things that I have found very helpful and some things that I don't totally agree with. But I do think he has the right idea of being the "pack leader" when training them. AND everybody knows that my dogs are my "kids" and that is where Cesar Milan and I disagree. I have selected a particular sound to correct the kids and it is working out very well. When they hear that sound, I get an immediate response out of them. A lot of success comes from the amount of time, the effort and the consistency that you are willing to give to get back a result...........all that said..............JMO

I watch as many as I can but I keep missing some of the shows. But someone did tell me about an episode they had that had a yorkie on it. And of course it was so spoiled, even got fed on the table with a spoon!! I keep trying to see that episode but I keep missing it!! I do think it is pretty amazing see the dogs before and then the after results!!
All my dogs are sooooooo spoiled!! And yes they have their clothes too!!:lol2:
They are spoiled but they still have rules and taught manners. I could never have 8 dogs without them being trained and just doing everything they wanted!!

Anyone have any free advice on how to keep Holly from barking when my dtr brings her chi over? She is sooo excited and barking to say lets play, lets run, yeh I love to have a friend here!
When Im getting ready we play chase and she barks..I think that is fun for her and I don't want tto chg that.
My dtrs get mad and tell me to shut her up:( .
They yell or bark in her face.. .
I don't know if I can stay at my MIL house now if my dtr brings her chi..It's an apt and Im afraid the neighbors may fuss.
Holly's bark is so strong/the pitch if it's in the kitchen the crystal vase in there pings.
She's my baby and I get mad when my family treats her mean.
They think I baby her too much. I have no stroller or outfits for her!
Anyway she also jumps..I know that needs to be fixed too.
Someone tell me what I shld do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is going to take a lot of patience, time and effort to keep her from barking at another dog because she is playful and that "IS" the way dogs communicate or express themselves. I have taught mine by using a sound to get their attention and then direct them with words. For instance, I use the sound (not necessarily a word) and then telll them firmly "NO BARKING." It has worked very well with the Yorkie but Kallie needs a little more work one on one to get her completely trained. But it is not an easy task and I have never tried it around other dogs so it may not even work then as again, they are communicating with their fellow dog species. JMO Also, getting her spayed is always a great idea for health reasons down the road. Again correcting any unwanted behavior (jumping) takes time, patience and effort to train them not to. But they are very very smart and learn quickly.

I have two of his DVDs and his first book and I have found a lot of his information very useful but also feel differently about my babies. They are not just dogs in my pack but are babies in the family. But I do keep them under control and modify unwanted behaviors using his techniques. The one video is just examples from his show of difficult cases. Entertaining and a learning experience but his first video is more useful. I underlined the parts of the book that I found useful and am not quite finished reading it. But I am a fan of his even though I do not watch his show anymore because I do not get that channel. If I did, I WOULD watch it.

I have "Dog Whisperer 5 Exciting Episodes! Focus: Aggression" and "People Training for Dogs." I would not bother with the first one but I think the second one has a lot of insight about dogs and packleaders. I would recommend that one. The book is also good to get as well but only if you have the time to read it!:D :D :D I am thinking about getting his last DVD he has out.........I'll let you know if I do.
