He's really sick. He has an instestinal infection probably caused by the lymes shot. At about 2:30 A.M. he was having nightmares and started barking really loudly, then at 4:30 A.M. he started whining because his tummy was ill and he didn't want to have an accident in his crate. He pooped out green watery goo. He seemed to be feeling better but then at 7 A.M. he started doing the same thing and I noticed about a pin drop sized amount of blood too. The Banfield we always go to with the b*tch vet was closed today, so we had to take him to the one about 15 minutes away. They took him right away and did a fecal. They told us what was wrong, gave us some meds and told us to feed him ONLY boiled chicken and rice for the next 5 days. We ended up transferring his wellness plan over to the other Banfield because the vet is soooo much nicer. You know, no smart comments, etc. We came back home and ran a few short errands... by the time we came back, poor Chippy threw up all over his crate, so we cleaned him up really quick and took him back to the vet. They took another fecal to make sure he didn't have Giardia cause now it wasn't green goo, it was brown with blood. Thankfully, he doesn't have Giardia. Still same diagnosis. Just this time they gave him a shot to stop throwing up. On our way home, he threw up again in my car. When we got home, we had to give him ANOTHER bath and by this point he was so lethargic... it made both me and Adam tear up. We felt so bad and the thought that it is making him be so sick. He finally perked up some and stopped throwing up so I gave him just a little of the chicken and rice that I made him, his meds, and a little water. Of course that made him poop all over the place 10 seconds later and it's literally barely poop anymore... it's mainly blood. His little butt is swelled and really red from pooping so much. He's perked up a lot in spirit, but I just want him to feel better! Pray for our Chip please!

I am so sorry that Chip is so sick. Have you thought to give him Neurta Cal or Stat or even rubbed some honey or karo syrup on the roof of his mouth? I am afraid his sugar is bottoming out and that could cause Hypoglycemia. Did they give him and IV fluids at all? If not you may want to use a dropper and drop a few drops of water at a time in his mouth to keep him from getting dehydrated. These little dogs go down so very fast. And I am a bit concerned.

Ashley I'm sorry Chip isn't feeling well.....did they tell you when he should stop bleeding? I would be freaking out but I'm just very over protective. Are the sure it was from a shot??? That is weird. Did they tell you to give him pedylite? You don't want him to dehydrate either. I hope he get's better soon....he is in my prayers and thoughts!

So sorry to hear about Chip being soooo ill. You got some Great advice by the other girls..........I can only suggest something for his wee bum to feel better. I use stuff they put on the butt of babies for diaper rash and it really helps sooth the area of pain and discomfort. It's topical and so can be applied as needed.

Hope Master Chip feels better real soon!

I gave him Nutri cal this morning and the vet said that he shouldn't have additives, like treats and stuff... she said that includes nutrical. They didn't say when he should stop bleeding, but I hope soon. We are trying to keep him hydrated by giving him water every now and then, but not a whole bunch. At least he was able to keep everything down... just not up yet. Poor baby. It's not even like any significant amounts. It's basically just drops of blood/poop/water at a time.

Chip seemed to be doing a little better this morning. He scarfed down his chicken and rice and even growled at Adam when he touched him while eating cause he was so hungry. He kept it up and down as far as I know. I've been trying to call Adam cause he got off of work at 3, but I haven't been able to get ahold of him. I'll tell you what happened when I find out!

Chip has done really well today. Still no accidents... or no pooping at all rather. He scarfs down his food like he's never eaten before and isn't vomiting at all. His energy level is almost back to what it was before. He definately is back to humping things and attacking his toys. Right now he is leaning against me chewing on a bone.

He was so funny eating tonight. He like stuck his whole face in his bowl and got a bunch of rice mushed up in his fur. Then he kept trying to paw it out so Adam and I tried to help, but he wouldn't let us! Then he got a chunk of food that was too big for him and started like freaking out when he had to keep chewing, and chewing, and chewing... and chewing more... then started pawing at his mouth and growling! He is so silly!

Sooo glad he is doing better. I have to cut everything in tiny pieces. Alex will not take a big piece. And sometimes I have to tell him to chew.

He loves that Chicken and rice... He starting to get aggressive over it which sucks. I've worked so much with him trying to get him to not be like that but he just started the other day. If you seem like your going to take him away from it, he'll growl. I've always tried to do everything in my will power to annoy, irritate, pet, etc to him while he's been eating because when I was 6 I was almost attacked by a Chi when I bent down to say hi... he made me almost fall backwards into a pool just because he was eating. I decided from that day on I was never going to have a dog like that... but now he's starting because of it!

Ashley what you may want to do is get a wood spoon and pull the food away from him while he is eating and when he growls tell him in a very firm voice NO. How old is he again? I am lazy and do not want to go and see if you have posted it already.:D

He's 6 months. I have no problem grabbing it with my hands. He won't bite me. He did that once and got in A LOT of trouble. He just growls when we touch him sometimes... it's so weird, but I'm definately going to try taking it away again tonight. When he growls I tap his nose and say "NO" really loud.

I think that would be best. You definitely do not want him to pick that bad habit up now. I was thinking it may be the fact that he was so hungry and he feels as though he is getting something special. When can you start him back on his normal diet?

They said 5 days, but start mixing his dog food in before the 5 days. I'm getting worried though because it's been day 3 and he still hasn't pooped yet. I'm going to wait for his next poop before I start mixing his food back in and see how that goes. Until then, it's chicken and rice for Chip, but he doesn't seem to mind!

Wow....3 days? Has he been eating the chicken & rice for the 3 days?

I would go ahead and start mixing his normal ration in with the chicken and rice. He may be needing something in it to stimulate him to get him to go poop. This is going to sound gross but if you will take a match stick and insert it into the rectum far enough to where you can still hold it. Leave it there for 15 to 20 minutes and he should go poop pretty quick after that. I hope this helps.

It's been awhile now...how is Chip?? Did the vet ever figure out what was the real cause of the infection? Was it really the lymes shot?
