Well, I went to www.happytailskennel and it is located in New Jersey area and appears just to be a place to board your pet. So can you post the link to the breeder you are looking at in Louisiana for us to take a look around??? OH, and Welcome to MT.

I know someone who bought a Yorkie from there and said they have Maltese. I contacted her and she indeed has a litter due. They just don't update the website.

How much did your friend pay for the yorkie and has she had any problems with the yorkie??? Has she had any problems with cooperation from the breeder with getting records??? How long has she been breeding maltese? It is really hard to give an opinion from just a website with such little detail. What are her asking prices for a maltese pup and how soon after birth does she allow you to adopt??? What size are the malts she is breeding together?

Hmmm....Well, they have a lot of breeds which is a red flag....
Also, reading through the health guarantee, she states that they will not take puppies back due to incompatibility, allergies, etc. Any reputable breeder would want to be the first person to know about these things and would gladly take their dog back...Also, the guarantee against genetic defects is only until 6 months of age...That's not very long at all...Sometimes, genetic defects aren't seen until later on...
There's a few red flags....But the choice is up to you.
Why don't you look around at some of the other reputable breeders out there and then compare??

Too many breeds. Is it possible for you to visit the place ? Pictures on the internet are nice, but it does not mean it really looks that way.

I had to do it. I went to the website and got as far as the first page. IMO no establishment that I would want to get a baby from will ever be that big. Did you all notice the facilities? Then when I scrolled towards the bottom they had listed I think 5 different breeds and Maltese was not even mentioned. I myself being a breeder have a hard enough time staying on top of everything with the breed and genetics. I am aiming to better the breed and genetics is something that has to be learned. And there is no way in the world I would be able to stay on top of it all with 3 breeds more less 5+. All of this is JMOP. And I hope it helps you in your search for a healthy, happy baby.

And Welcome to MT.

With everything having been said, I would use caution when purchasing your new baby............it's a big and long commitment and so you want the best pup you can find for your money. There are a lot of breeders that will offer lower prices but less gurantees. Just hope you take everything to heart that has been said in answer to your question and give the kennel a thorough background check before making the determination as your place of purchase if you still feel you want to make a purchase from them. Yes please be careful and do lots of research, believe me in the end its worth paying a little bit more for a reputable breeder than a puppymiller..
Good Luck

Please come back and let us know what you did and where you get your puppy from. And we'd love to see pics of your new little one when you get her.

Besides the too many breeds, what I don't like also is that it does not look like those dogs are raised with the family. It looks like a boarding place.
