Hello everyone, do you know if it is really necessary to pull the hair that grows inside the ears?:D \
Thanks

Some breeders say it is a must to keep the infections down and keep the ear canal clean. I do keep the ear hairs pulled from my maltese and yorkie. I use the yellow powder bought at the local pet store as a preventative to infection and ease of pulling out the hair. I DO NOT pull all the hair out at one sitting; but pull it out every other day. Just so they do not "hate" the process and to keep it under control. The best thing would be to ask a vet or a groomer their views which I am sure wil vary as to the opinions you will get here. JMO

I use the ear powder too. It makes it easier to grasp. I bought the scizzors to pull them but it's easier to pull them. They don't seem to mind.

Ear hair can cause a yeast infection in the ears. I always try to teach the kids while young to lay their heads in my lap so that I can pull the hair. Tweezers are wonderful for pulling it. It does not hurt them unless there is an infection. Just try to teach the baby now why it is young.
By the way I do not know if I have welcomed you to MT yet. So WELCOME! And your babie is sure pretty.

I have a little different take on this. I always thought that you had to pull the ear hairs. Mia recently got an ear infection and I have had a lot of questions so I have been in contact with a vet on another forum. She told me that it wasnt necessary to pull the ear hairs as long as you used an ear cleaner after the bath to clean out the ears and dry the hairs in there. I think it is just a matter of preference...

I have to pull the ear hair to keep Chloe from infections. I do it about once a month. Some dogs are more susceptible to ear infections.

I just want to add that I normally have had Mia's ear hairs pulled, but now that I have this second opinion on it, im not too sure what I am going to do...

I pull it out with my fingers only because he doesn't mind that. For some reason the tweezers freak him out. Even when they're not even touching any skin he just hates it. You can just take him to the groomer like once a month to just do only ears. It should be around $10 or maybe less. Enzo's had an ear infection before too from some long few strands of hair that just grew straight down. The vet took them out though since I didn't even see it.
