Hey guys,
Ok so can you guys re-post all of your tear stain remedies. As most of you probably know, Cosmo's tear stains are out of control. Hopefully they will slow down now that all of his baby teeth have been pulled but we will see. So post away everyone:)

:D I still feel Tylan is the best thing to use, just my opinion.
I am sure once the teething stops it will get better, if not do the Tylan..
Good Luck,

I'm with Andrea, give it a little bit more time for the tearstains to clear since he doesnt have the baby teething problem......then do the Tylan. I use the angel eyes but only because I bought it first and it is way more money than the Tylan (both have the same antibiotic in them). But I also have the Tylan. It has really helped with Kallie's eyes and once I can get my act together I will post some before and after pics. But I did use some of the home remedies before I got clued into the tylan/angel eyes solution. I'll have to dig through my records for the home remedies for stains.:fainted:

On another forum ( most people know which one) someone suggest Polydent whitening tablets and I must say it worked. After Sammy had her 1st Patella operation she suffered really bad staining ( never before the op) and I tried the polydent and it worked. I had to do it a few times over the period of the month and it all went away.
Mine now get very minimal amounts and I just clean there faces daily and it is under control.
1 polydent whitening tablet to 50mls warm water, apply to area being careful NOT to get it in the eye, let it dry in and wash out the next morning ( apply in the evening, and DON'T rub it into there skin).

I'm going to try this again as the first time i dont think it had much affect.
When you mixed it did it become frothy? & did you apply the froth or the liquid?
I think i will get someone to send me over Tylan from the states as it's only available here on prescription & i dont know if my vet will give me one for a little tear staining. He'll say i'm nuts:tongue6: now you dont all need to agree to that one:p

I can't get tylan here in Aussie at all ( well at least I couldn't find any). I applied the liquid, and it didn't work first time, I had to do it a few times. Polydent won't fix the problem, it only helps clean the face. I need something to FIX the problem from the inside, like Tylan. I have heard so much about it, but I can't get it here either. All the good stuff is in the US,

I just ordered angel's eyes last week, waitin for it to come. I didn't know tylan and angel eyes were the same thing. I thought I read somewhere before that we shouldn't be giving puppies under 8 mo or 1 yr tylan..? so does this mean angel eyes is not okay even if the instructions says it's okay for puppies over 6 weeks of age?

I'm not sure:confused: but i think it's cause they are still teething when puppies & it may not help if teeth are still coming in. Also, it is an antibiotic & so should be used sparingly.
Hopefully someone else will be able to advise better.

Okay I know I'm engaged to a vet - but am I the only one who has a problem with feeding my dog an non prescription antibiotic long term ? Tylan and Angel glow are an illegal product in Australia - all the vets I've spoken too are not impressed at all with the U.S practices . Feeding any antibiotic long term is detrimental to a dogs health - even small amounts can build up in their systems - and mean that no antibiotic will work effectively . These products often mask real underlying health issues - such as allergies , blocked tear ducts or entropion problems . Feeding this to a puppy and before the adult teeth come in , will ruin the teeth . Sarah

Yes, i would wait till she is an adult & just try to keep her face really clean with daily washing to stop yeast growing in the hair & this will help quite a bit.

Because people should not self prescribe . All those over the counter products contain derivatives of tetracycline - an antibotic . Sarah

Try mixing up some MOM paste ( milk of magnesium , hydrogen peroxide and corn flour ) mix into a thick paste and apply under the eyes . Wait until it dries completely , then wash out - remember to condition the hair , it can be drying . Sarah

So you could get it as a prescription from a vet in australia?
It is only available as a prescription over here & i would'nt ask my vet for it as it's only cosmetic & to be honest they have very little staining.

the groomers from petsmart told me to use distilled water, boil it, let it cool down and use it to wipe the face. she said this works pretty good. I'm going to try it for the time being, so far I just use the tear stain solution from the pet store and warm water everyday.. doesn't seem to help much. Lulu has really really bad tear stains, I'm going to start switching her food this week.

Hi,
Nemo never had tearstains, He was also on Nutro. Nutro is a good food, but for some reason made Nemo tear like crazy. He is now on Wellness(For like 3 or 4 months). As soon as I stopped the Nutro the stains went away..

Yes, I actually learned about it from a fellow MT member. I used 1 teaspoon of the "unfiltered" vinegar from the health food store to a quart of distilled water.........BUT I also have used the tylan antibiotic for the tear stains........so hard to know which is actually doing the trick of getting rid of the tear stains. With antibiotics, it is important to remember if you are going to use them, not to keep them on it for a long time and to only use it after they have lost their baby teeth. My vet prescribed the tetracyline for the tear staining. I have also tried the MOM treatment and you ABSOLUTELY need to condition to keep the hair from frizzing and breaking. Condition - condition - condition. But it removed staining.

What about the Visine mentioned on the Maltese only site? Has anyone tried this every day? I just got a puppy. He is 12 weeks old and has some tear staining. My vet recommended we wait to consider eye ointments with antibiotics in them since his staining is not too bad and he was afraid this might encourage yeast/fungus...he did say to get some mild over the counter eye drops for him at the pharmacy and do that twice a day for a while.
Has anyone tried this? Also, my puppy is on Eukanuba... Any thoughts?

Hey LadyJazz!
I've got your remedy! I had the same problem with my Maltepoo, Sadie, as did my mother with her Maltese, Coot. We've battled over 2 years with them, especially Coot. I hoped the same thing when Sadie was teething, but it got worse. We both started them on Angels' Glow in January and it's amazing! We both had 100% results in as little as 10 days for Sadie, 14 days for Coot. I was so elated that I'd found something that actually worked that I started offering it on my site, SlideCollars.com. I offer free shipping that the Angels' Glow site doesn't. And it's fully guaranteed or your money back. Call me if you like....I've tried everything! My number is on the site. This stuff has really excited me, and it's all natural. My mother tried the Tylan and it didn't work and Coot was sick all the time. It's a prescription antibiotic you put in their water. Antibiotics on a permanent basis can weaken a human's or animal's immune system and kills good bacteria in the process...NOT GOOD. I'm an Pediatric RN and I know my medications! I'm not a salesperson, just someone who found something that works and would like to share that success with others. I'm so happy with Sadie's pretty little face now. Do call if you have any questions. I welcome new pet buddies!

Yes, I purchased the angel's glow and it does have an antibiotic in it; actually the same antibiotic that is in the Tylan........I checked the bottles and could not believe my eyes. But it does work!!!! The key is to give them Activia(yogurt w/ live bacteria cultures) so that you have good bacteria being replaced when you use either angel eyes or Tylan. Got that idea from my Doctor!!! I give them the vanilla and they love it! But I have used both the angel's glow and the Tylan and just wrap a small amount in a small piece of cheese......they don't even know they are eating it. LOL

I use that and it does work. It changes the PH balance of the tears and prevents the bacteria from staining the face. I also make a concerted effort to keep Scrappy's face dry. I am constantly throughout the day dabbing his face with a makeup pad to dry his tears.
Scrappy has blocked tear ducts. Some of these remedies will not work unless the underlying problem has been diagnosed.
Elaine you are right tetracycline is used for farm animals and poultry and for aquariums here in Au.
So while it needs to be prescribed you can buy it over the counter as an antibiotic for aquariums.

As far as the Tylan (contains tylosin which is an antibiotic).....I ordered it off the internet. And it says pretty much what you said that it was for farm animals, poultry and aquariums. Cheryl,
No, I give the angel eyes in a piece of cheese. I cut a little square top and bottom piece of white american cheese and put a smidge of the angel eyes on top of one piece and then put the other cut piece on top and crimp the edges together. They have it down before they know what it was. My kids love cheese. I usually give them one tablespoon of vanilla yogurt a day when they are on either the angel eyes or Tylan as a reward.

Hi,
No vet is going to give a 12 week puppy an antibiotic .
You can use fresh eyes, it's safe and it helps keep their eyes clean. I use it for Nemo. When your puppy is done teething (Cause teething causes staining) then you can use a product for the staining. Usually when the teething stops so does the staining..
Here is the link to Fresh Eyes..

Even if the vet is willing to give you the antibiotic (hopefully he wouldn't), your little one should not be on it at this early age. Maybe for medical reasons but certainly not a steady dose which is needed to clear up staining. So wait until he has his permanent teeth before giving any consideration to antibiotics for tear staining!

It is a good idea to consult your vet about the staining though. Just in case there is an underlying problem besides teething. Such as ear mites or blocked tear ducts.
If the ducts are blocked, they can fix this at the same time as his desexing.

Thank you... Maybe I came across wrong in my email. I am not at all hoping for an antibiotic..and am glad it should not be an issue, but it seems like several are using products with antibiotics in them.
I'm hoping to find out something along the lines of the "teething" reply and that I just need to keep him clean.. To me, the staining is not such a big deal as long as he is not sick or needing surgery. He is such a sweetie! This dog has the PERFECT temperament! I'm amazed at how much he loves people and my other pets.

Ok, all you pros... what would you suggest from get go for a puppy for this "situation?" A special food, spring water, etc....????
Thanks!
I would say until they get their permanent teeth, forget antibiotics. But in the meantime, distilled water w/ filtered apple cider to change the ph level of the eye tears and no red dye in treats or food. No tomato pumace or cranberry ingredients. Some maltese are not bothered by either, but my Kallie is sensitive to those ingredients and her face has cleared up considerably with a combination of the above things. Once they have lost their puppy teeth, an antibiotic, Tylan can be given to clear up future staining.

With a puppy you can't do much until it's done with the teething.I still believe it all comes down to genetics. Of course I don't know who Nemos parents are , but he has never stained. The only time he has stained is when I gave him food with Beet Pulp in it, as soon as I stopped his stains went away!
I now feed natural Balance also, it's great and Nemo is doing well on it..

Hi,
No vet is going to give a 12 week puppy an antibiotic .
You can use fresh eyes, it's safe and it helps keep their eyes clean. I use it for Nemo. When your puppy is done teething (Cause teething causes staining) then you can use a product for the staining. Usually when the teething stops so does the staining..
Here is the link to Fresh Eyes..
Good Luck,

Yes you can buy it anywhere like CVS or Walegreens, wherever. It's safe ..
You use it as you would on yourself, just a drop or two in each eye, it keeps the eyes clean and free of the icky stuff...

I am not an actual hands on mom yet. My baby Lola will be coming home end of July. However, I've been doing alot of research on Maltese's, particularly on this topic. I read that the ff helps in reducing tear staining.
1, use distilled water and drink from a water bottle as opposed bowl
2, Stainless steel feeding bowls
3, Avoid foods with coloring
4, wash face regularly
I hope this helps, probably too simplistic:)

Petco has Natural Balance. Mia & Cody are still teething but both her & Cody have gotten alot better with the Angel Eyes and home cooking. I gave them 1/4 tsp. 1x a day for 2 weeks and Mia's are almost non-exsist and Cody's are much better. I would wait for the full strength Tylan until they finish teething...it all depends on the dog as to when they are finish teething.
I posted this on another forum but i also wanted to share with you guys that i am happy~!!~
today donbi had like 5 shots (including benadryl)
anyways my vet knows how i am particular about my babies.
and im always asking her questions like tearstains etc.
well donbi has a lot of moisture inbetween her eyes and i for one know the moisture is making her yeast buildup and tearstainning like crazy!
well finally today i told my vet, the angel eyes (she knows about) and tylan are not doing its job. i explain she has a littl yeast buildup in between her legs. and she is completely done teething.
so my question to her is, whats the next thing to do.
she gave me pyoben gel (its like lotion) it dries up the moisture areas.
and conofital for the yeast buildup.
so far the kids are all dry and i dont see as much tearing inbetween donbi and daerongs eyes :D
just wanted to share with you all my excitment for the day
please consult with your vets before getting the medication :D

I use the unfiltered apple cider vinegar that you buy at the health food store. It costs about $5.00 for a quart but using only l tsp. of the vinegar to a quart of water.........it lasts a long time!! I drank some and it's not that bad. The kids drink it now with no problem.

I don't that it has to be unfiltered but that was the suggestion that was given to me............I guess you could even use white vinegar as well. It just changes the PH level of their tear stains so that it does not have the red stains.

I have found the greatest solution to the tear stain problem. It is an all natural herbal powder called Purifeye. I was simply amazed at how it made those ugly tear stains disappear completely within a few weeks !!!!
I have tried all those topical products on he market and even got messy with the MOM (milk of magnesia, peroxide etc...) suggestions..... and still had no success until I found the www.PETPURITY.com website. I would suggest to all of you to give it a try - and would never suggest to give your pet an antibiotic for tear stains !!!!

It takes them a little bit to get use to but then they are not bothered by the taste at all. I tasted it as well, and it isn't too bad........maybe I should drink it too. For Molly it seems that her severe tear stains were due to allergies. The vet mentioned that they were worse than normal, so put her on an antihistamine. That still didn't help, so they gave her a stronger antihistamine called Delta Albaplex. It has helped greatly!

Tylan will not hurt your dog if given 10 days to 14 days, for some people nothing else works so this is their best hope. Vitamins will not make stains go away, if all else fails then I feel it's genetics and you really can't do much about that. With or without stains it doesn't change how much we love them:D Sometimes it's not cosmetic it can be allergies they could need their eyes flushed it could be something new in their environment or it can just be genetic!

hi all
at the risk of being a pedant-
tylosin/tylan based products are not actually legal anywhere in the world.
neither makers of angels eyes or glow have ever applied for marketing authorities (read: government rubber stamps)
It just happens that some governments turn a blind eye as they don't see it as a major problem. They have bigger fish to fry.
I used to use Angels eyes and was happy with it until defra banned it and angels glow in the uk.
I now use a natural product called angels delight. Instead of killing the bacteria it oxidises the iron inside the body. This means that the enzyme that is the basis of the red yeast is not created and hence no tear stains on my dog.
With regard to purifeyye I know one person that uses it and is happy with it. From what i can see both angels delight and puifeye are very similar. the angels delight has more ingredients because it was initailly developed to help with other problems such as arthritus, cateracts and slpping patellas. Not sure if it does all the other stuff as they are not a problem for me.
I do feel sorry for the australians though as none of the above, not even the natural products would be allowed through customs. I have always wondered if the restrictions are as much about protecting the economy from imports as protecting the environment

The shipping costs across the pond have always been prohibitive. Many things that I have looked at in the past have been cheaper than the shipping costs.
Here in the UK the prices for angels delight are exactly what i used to pay for angels eyes in the past. As with Angels eyes, you get to the stage where you don't have to use it every day.
Ultimately straight tylosin will always be the cheapest option, bar successful diet change.

Ok so can you guys re-post all of your tear stain remedies. As most of you probably know, Cosmo's tear stains are out of control. Hopefully they will slow down now that all of his baby teeth have been pulled but we will see. So post away everyone:)
Here is the update on the Maltese Secret Stay White Tear Stain Remover. I've used it a week and you can see that it is getting lighter but the biggest thing is you have to use it twice a day and I missed a couple of times getting home from work so late and by the time I finished my nightly love chores for all of my fur babies and my hunny. I had forgot to do their eyes. I am still foing it and I will let you know if it takes it away completely or not.

I have tried all those topical products on he market and even got messy with the MOM (milk of magnesia, peroxide etc...) suggestions..... and still had no success until I found the www.PETPURITY.com website. I would suggest to all of you to give it a try - and would never suggest to give your pet an antibiotic for tear stains !!!!My dogs would throw it up they could not hold it down

ANDREA
I agree with Andrea Tylan is not an antibiotic that is used for dogs it is used for livestock and poultry I had this discussion with my vet before using AE and allergies can be the root of the problem so this may need to be addressed if AE or other treatments do not work. I would love mine even if their little faces were stained.

Thats amazing I buy Kleen face from a company in England. Plus I give Katie Apple Cider vinegar capsules which help but you darent miss washing the tear stains one day or they are as bad as ever. I got a handy little gadget at a dog show last month - its like a small lollipop stick with white chalk type stuff on one end. You dampen it and then either with the stick itself or rub your fingers on it and then on the tear stains, it tones the hair down to a more natural colour. It lasts a few days before the tear stains take over again.
What is in eye envy?

When I got Vincent he had the cleanest little face. No staining. Now I am noticing while he doesn't have the typical tear staining, he has started getting large eye 'boogers' under his eyes. As soon as I notice them, out comes the wet wash cloth to clean them off. Which of course he doesn't like.
Is this typical? It happens so sudden. One day it is not there, then there it is. I am changing him over to a grain free diet which I hope will help.

I usually wash her face but if I don't have time I use Diamond Eye, just dab some on a cotton ball and swipe away. Does wonders for my pup, she's 6 months so I still don't want to put her on antibiotics.

Thanks for the tips in the links - I just read them and saved them. I've used a mixture for years with cornstarch, boric acid, and Fish Mox mixed into a powder since having Persians (2 white, one got bad stains and still does), and it was formulated by a vet years ago. Many breeders use this for show Persians, and it can be used on dogs, too, if you're not against the Fish Mox - it's an antibiotic for fish.
I know a lot of you will be against this, but I thought I'd mention it. I've never had a problem with it.
Now, I've been using Angel's Eyes, but I think I'll try some of those tips in the links provided - ty again!

Sure thing:
Eye Powder for Eye Stain
2 oz. Boric Acid (from grocery store)
2 oz. Corn Starch
3 Capsules of Fish Mox (500 mg)
http://www.revivalanimal.com/store/p/5932-Fish-Mox-Forte.aspx
Mix all ingredients together well in a sealable plastic container.
Wash next to and under eyes with Spa Lavish Facial Scrub (that's what I use) or wipe area with Hydrogen Peroxide, then keep dipping your finger in the powder and applying until it makes a paste or until hair is dry.
This will help with existing tear stains and also good if your dog/cat's hair under eyes are wet, apply to keep the area dry.
I hope this helps somebody :D

I have been using Angel Eyes on Bella for the past couple of months and she was for the most part been stain free. I have been giving it only 4 days a week now as suggested on the directions and now she is getting the streaks down each side of her face :( I was hoping to wean her off of the Angel Eyes, maybe I will try the purifeye as I don't want her on the Angel Eyes forever. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks so much for all the advice!

Are you still cleaning the face?? Wiping it down everyday to get the gunk off?? Angel eyes can only be a temporary fix, as you can't keep them on it forever because it is an antibiotic. Try using a washcloth with warm water everyday to wipe her face. Alot of people use corn startch on the area too to keep it dry but I've never tired it so I can't say how well it works.

I do cleanse her face every night. I use the spa lavish every other night and use a warm cloth the other nights. I was trying to let the little hairs on the top of the bridge of her nose grow out and wonder if that was causing the staining so I trimmed it all yesterday :( She does have moisture there alot and between her eyes so I usually wipe around her face with a cotton ball a few times a day as well.
When I adopted her she had her nose shaved and her eyebrows cut very short and her face was white as could be. Of course I wanted to grow it out....LOL.
She is on Evo and our whole family drinks culligan spring water.

I had the same problem - once I stopped Angel's Eyes, the staining came back. I talked to my vet, and she didn't see a problem with using the AE. I am only giving it to her a few times a week, and just a little bit - not according the the chart on the bottle that goes by weight. She just got weighed and is 6 lbs., but I still give her about 1/4 tsp. and haven't increased it like the bottle suggests.
Good luck - and I have been growing Chloe's hair up and down by the eyes (stupid groomer cut her corners of her eyes after I had it all grown out - grrr!), so Pure Paws Gel is safe to put in the hair you want to grow up and down. You only need a small amount.
Let us know what works for you

I felt so sad after cutting the hair in the corners of her eyes....instantly regretted doing it :( It had been growing for 2 months and since she never teared before I thought it may be the cause. I am sure if I would have continued to let it grow it would have gotten long enough and stopped bothering her...if it was at all. I really wish she could talk and tell me what's going on in her little fur body...LOL I did go out today and get the vinegar and corn starch to try so we will see if that works for her. I am going to call my vet and ask her what she thinks of the Angel Eyes and dosing. I was really hoping to stop using it soon.

HI, Coco is almost 9 months old and her tear staining is really bad.
I had her on the wellness food and switched her to Van Pattens duck and potato to see if that will help with the staining. She is still teething so I am going to wait until her adult teeth come in and if she continues to stain I think I will take her to an eye doctor.
She also was scratching alot so I thought maybe it is allergies.
She is 3 1/2 lbs and is so cute but the staining is terrible and her little face smells.
When she gets spayed the vet will check to see if her tear ducts are blocked.

About all you can do right now is to keep her face clean and dry and that will help with the smell. Teething is really hard on the staining issue. Plus the pollen count is high right now and is even taking its toll on my fluffs. I can only recommend the daily washing for now and that should help. The itching may be a result of the staining remaining on her face and causing iritation.

There still stained, and they won't go away. I keep cleaning and wiping her face and she's sick and tired of me going after her. I call her and she hides underneath the bed with her butt sticking out. Too funny.
I will probably keep shaving the corner of her eyes till I see white.
Chantilly Lace gave me great advise, to wipe her stains with eye soulution (what you use to clean your contacts with). And I have seen results, so hopefully I will have a white face on my baby once again.

Yeah they do look better when they have a nice clean shave but looks tacky when you let it grow. But I will let it grow out as soon as her stains go. I thought I posted pics of them in the album, maybe I didn't. I'll do it when I have time in my hands.

I've never of using white vinegar but I did use to use distilled apple cider vinegar. I stopped using it a long time ago becuase I just started washing her face everyday and that seemed to be enough. But with springtime emerging I've noticed I have to clean her face so much more often :( so we may start the ACV again and see if we can get some helpful results

Has anyone else heard of using 1 part distilled to 1 part peroxide and using a Q-tip to apply to tear stains? I was told it works really well. Think I'll try it one Belle. Sammy has the dirty face going but not so much tear stains. He is teething so I know he's drooling. I have a make-up brush that I use on both to dust on some corn starch to dry faces out. It really helps.

I've used peroxide before and it does LIGHTEN the stains. It doesn't make them go away but it will lighten them. I don't use it everyday, or even every week. I've done it about 4 times now since last summer. Maybe every 3 months..
I wait until she is done tearing and clean her face really good with the facial scrub. When it dries I will take a q-tip with peroxide on it, seperate the stained hair from the other hair, put a piece of wax paper/tin foil under the stained piece of hair, and wipe the peroxide on the hair. Be careful about getting close to her eye or skin becuase I'm sure it would hurt or sting. I let the peroxide sit over night (it dries quick in a few minutes) and the next morning I will conditioner the area so it doesn't dry the hair out. I usually do this before a bath so I can condition it while she is getting a bath.
It's not something I would use all the time to fight tear stains. I only do it after she's had a major staining "outbreak" She seems to go through phases where all I need to do is wash her face and then other times it seems like nothing helps and her tears are just so dark :( So when she has major staining I will wait it out then use what I described above to help lighten the staining. I wouldn't bother trying to use it while they are having major staining issues though, I think it would only dry the hair out

Peroxide will help the staining (lighten it) but it will also damage the hair if used too much because it tends to dry out the hair.......and when the hair gets dried out, it tends to break off. And the corn starch is a great idea to keep the face dry. Daily washing will help also.
I do use the organic apple cider vinegar in the water but I do it not just for the tear staining but for digestive aid as well. :)

Well after struggling I finally took Chantilly Lace to a specialist, a Veterinary Ophthalmologists, best money ever spent! The only thing I have to say is poor baby! I have bought every product known to man to fight the tear stain, have taken her several times to Doctor, given her antibiotics even though no infection present. Wash her face everyday and still fighting stain!
I took Chantilly Lace , she will be three in October, to Dr on April 21, 2011. They checked and flushed all her tear ducks and drainage duck in each corner of eye. Of course checked her eyes for moisture and it was 22% slightly high but like the Dr. said better than to dry! The amazing part of everything she discovered was Chantilly had several hairs growing in the upper and lover lids and a one or two in the corner, amazing! Can you imagine how much wetness you would have not to mention irritation from this along! I get one little hair in my eye and go nuts, my eyes swells shut! I felt so bad for my baby. Its not something I could see without magnification. These were plucked, Dr said never cut with a scissor, they would come back coarse! The amazing part is the eye wettness is dry for now! Wow is all I have to say!!! i will keep you posted on what happens now. I am so pleased. It is amazing when your not flighting the wetness alone. Just so you know they wrapped her up tight in a blanket while the assistant help the doctor. They did all this while she was a wake. She did not put up much of a fight! She was so good. This is something I will not be able to do myself. So I will have to take her in for routine checkups to remove hairs growing in lids. I am hoping I can get her to give me a better price for routine plucking which will have to done every 4-8 weeks, yet to be determined. I don't know if all hairs will continue to grow after plucking or not. Maybe they won't come back after a while, I can only hope. Hope this might help someone else, at lease consider taking your baby to the specialist to just make sure you have no underlying conditions.

Chantilly Lace's face was not so stained or I would have done just that. The reason is I washed her face at least once a day and give her Tylan Powder off and on. Her face would stay wet and of course that makes the face look dark and unattractive. I do like digital photography and taking pictures of her made me even more aware of the problem. I know she had to be miserable as well! Her face is dry now and all I have to say is OMG! I think my work will be cut in half. I had just done a treatment of MOM before I took her to the doctor and do that when needed especially for photo day. It didn't get rid of all stain but I think now that this problem has been solved the shampoo will take care of the rest of it. I will tell you I have been using Spa Lavish for one year and decided to buy Blueberry Bark and in my opinion there is no comparison! The Blueberry Bark is so much better.

Ok Sofia face get stain, but that is because her lazy mother doesn't wash it. As for the wet face, I know she got that fix, but if you see her face a little bit wet, I recommend buying Kleenex tissue. They adsorb sooo much water on Sofia's face. Sofia usually gets it when playing with other dogs.

My regular doctor who is great, specializing in small and exotics but yet even though she had seen him many times about the wet and stained face, even given her treatments didn't catch this! I actually call the doctor to recommend a Veterinarian Ophthalmologist and of course I had to explain I was going crazy with the wet nasty looking face everyday for almost 2 years! For crying out loud, and poor Chantilly what she must have gone threw! I do feel terrible about not doing this sooner! I spent so much money trying to do away with the stain buying every product known to man, pretty stupid on my part! I have never owned a Maltese before and I guess reading so much about it being hereditary! Well I have learned something from this experience and that's why I will spread this as far as I can. Who knows this could be something that might help another parent make the division to at least go to a specialist before you give in to just fighting the stain. I guess the question in my case is keeping up with the maintenance of plucking the hair from the lids as needed, this has to be done by the Ophthalmologist! Very delicate procedure, I can't do it for sure. Let me know what happens with your babies.
