Ok, I know this is for Maltese grooming but my post is a combo question. I have a yorkie that needs his ears trimmed to keep the weight of the hair from making his ears droop so I need to know for those of you that have a yorkie and a maltese what trimmer you use (Make, model, where purchased). I do not like the "bare" skin look to the ears, I like a little hair left for the soft look and I am also wanting to use it on the pads of their feet as well. Any suggestions or thoughts would be helpful.

I use the Peanut by Wahl. I bought it on e-bay but you can get it at Sally Beauty Suppy stores and I know people have gotten it other places, but I don't know where. A lot of people I have heard from love it. I do too.:D

How does it leave the ears????  I want the ears sort of velvetee feeling and not bald looking. Do you know the number of the blade that it comes with???

No, I don't know the blade # since it is not the "standard" size. It does come with at least 4 attachments, though. I did Brea's ears with the other day and they're not bald, :lol2: - but do feel nice.

Well, that's what I want..........I want a nice soft furry look to them without the weight of the hair. Toby has such nice long locks and his ears are so pretty. The groomer did them when he was seven months old and I HATED THEM!!!!!! So I just want something that will leave that velvety feel and look to them. Thanks I will see if I can find on of those trimmers.

Carol, did you ever get this trimmer and if so, how do you like it? I would really like to get a trimmer for my little guys paw pads.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner.

I use just a regular size Wahl clipper. Nothing special. When I don't want it too short I use the smallest attachment which works out great. It leaves it looking nice. This is how I do Scamp's ears. For the pads, I take the attachment off. I have been doing the pads with a regular size clipper for years so I am very good at it so I don't need a small one. But a few years ago I did have a Wahl clipper that was used just for small places like ears and pads, it worked great but it was actually a horse trimmer for trimming out the ear hair in horses. But I like the power it had, it made it alot easier. But it didn't come with any attachments so I still used the regular size trimmer for doing the ears.

If you are real good at using a clipper, you can shave the ear without an attachment and still have it leaving a good amount of hair on it. It is all in how you angle it and you have to have a steady hand.

Well, I am not much help am I?

No that was helpful............you made me see that caution has to be used when you use the clippers. I might just stay with the scissors as I do pretty good with them, thought the clippers would just be faster which I am sure they would be but maybe take me longer in the long run having to be soooo careful.:lol2: :lol2:
