Do you Allow Rope Toys for your Baby?

Tink has had two rope toys that she has simply shredded and left pieces of string all over the house. She did it so fast I hardly had time to steel it away from her before it was completely gone!

She loves to chew and pull on them, but I'm worried about her swallowing the threads and getting them stuck inside her.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a substitute?

I have them for the kids too and they are suppose to be great for the teeth. Mine have shred them but they spit the pieces out and don't swollow them. Does Tink actually eat the pieces she pulls off????? She truly is a Tinkerbrat!!! I don't know what you coud do for a substitute. Maybe just keep replacing them before she gets them down to the point of destruction.

Most of the pieces end up on the carpet:( to vacuum up but she does swallow some of it because I see it in her poos. Freeked me out the first time I saw one.

If no one has anything better, I'll take your suggestion and just keep giving them to her but stealing them away when she starts shredding. She really likes them alot!

Kallie had one so torn apart that it didn't even resemble a rope:lol2: :lol2: :lol2: and I finally had to put it in the trash. But I just keep checking and replacing as they tear them up.........they aren't too expensive and they do enjoy them so much!!!

Mine have them also but no shredding goes on here. Mia gets my hair in her poop....that is scary because sometimes it gets stuck half in half out.....sorry for being graphic!

You think thats bad. Years ago my mum got us a mongrel, his name was junior. He was so full of worms. When my mum wormed him, and he did a poo they used to hang outta his bottom.:( . She used to have to get some kitchen roll, and pull them all the way out. EKK. now that memory is a really gross 1. YUK

:D OOps forgot to answer, Nemo doesnt have any rope toys.I have heard they can get stuck sometimes and cause problems.Nemo is sticking to his ducky..:p

I honestly am to anal to allow a rope toy. I know a gal from our diabetes board who breeds some of the top English Spaniels in the country.. she lost one of her champs due to a blockage ... it was from all the 'strings".
I also think any chew toy should only be given under supervision... that way they can be 'monitored' for safety.
I absolutely will never ever give rawhide as Missy choked on a 'slimy, little piece that she managed to break off and it caught in her throat. Scared the bejeebers outta me and even if I had been in the next room I'd never have noticed she was choking! I happened to be in the bedroom ..she was on the floor on the other side of the bed, I was sitting on the bed straightening drawers. I could barely hear her..just an "odd" sound that made me go check her...

As Naddies Mom stated they can be really dangerous if she were to swollow even one strand and it got stuck in the intestines. I do have the rope toys here but do not have any shredders. Good Luck. :hearter:

They don't have any rope toys because they can be dangerous...If they swallow any of the strings, they can get tangled up in their insides...Definitely not a good thing.

Mine have rope toys. But they have NEVER pulled any strings off or tried ripping or pulling them apart. They only play tug of war with it.

But here is a great alternative to string rope toys. They are fleece rope toys and dogs really love them!!

Chippy loves his rope bone and we've never had any problems with it. We buy the bigger ones for him so it's harder for him to shred it. His rope bone is his favorite toy. As soon as Adam comes home from work in the morning, here comes Chip, rope bone in mouth saying "play with me daddy!"

The only time I've had to throw away anything rope related was those little animal things made out of tennis balls and the legs and neck were made of thin rope. I got them at petsmart and he did chew that so I had to throw it away.
