Chip had to get a distemper vaccination today and guess what. He got sick. The second I parked my car in front of our house he threw up all over me. I took him in the house and while I was washing off my clothes in the tub, he threw up on the bathroom floor nothing but clear fluids. I cleaned up the floor and Adam gave him a bath and all he did was lay in the water with his head down. Then he started throwing up again. I was walking around getting stuff ready to take him back to the vet and Adam was drying him off. Adam told me that he seems to be a little better and if he throws up again in 15 minutes we'll take him. No sooner did he end his sentence and Chip threw up... again. He was having dry heeves all the way back to the vet and when we parked the car in the parking lot, he threw up white foam. When we got to the vet they looked at his gums and rushed him in the back. Basically he threw up all the fluids his body had left and he was 100% dehydrated. They had him back there for about 30 minutes while they put an IV in him, gave him steroids and a couple other things. The vet said that he has something called Atopy. I don't know what that is exactly, but he says that he has it. The vet also reminded us that we have the right to decline any vaccinations (except for rabies), although he suggests us at least giving him distemper. I did decline his lymes vaccine today though because of all he went through before. This poor baby! He's perked up a lot. He kinda just chillin' on the floor with his bone now though but he's acting a lot better!

Awww, I'm so sorry to hear about little Chipper...........poor guy sure went down fast after the shot. :( :( I've never had any issues with the distemper shot. I get the 6 in 1 shot every year on each of the kids and of course the rabies shot every three years. Since we have no deer in the area, no lyme shot is needed. And we can refuse all shots here as well except for the rabies, that is a required by law vaccine.
I hope he is going to be ok. I just never heard of a dog getting sick from the distemper. He must be very sensitive to vaccines. Please keep us updated on how he is doing.

In VA by law the vet has to give the rabies vaccine every year. He did fine with that one suprisingly and he did well with all of his other first vaccines (except for lymes) so I was really shocked when he got sick this time around. He's just getting older I guess and his body is changing.
He also got a dewormer today and he cracked me up with that. Chip has never taken treats from strangers or people he doesn't know very well. He only takes them from his family. Anyways, the vet put the dewormer on a popsicle stick and put it by Chip's mouth. Chip just looked at it like "Really? You expect me to take that from YOU?" I asked the vet if I could give it to him and he didn't at first cause he was weirded out by the popsicle stick, so I put it on my finger and he licked it right up.
He's doing okay now. My mom came in to see him and he gave her lots of kisses. Right now he's right beside me still chompin' on a bone. He was laying down on the floor kinda sleeping some. Maybe he might actually be able to sleep with me tonight... hmmmmmmmmmm...

Aww, Ashley, sorry to hear that the Chipster had such a bad reaction to that shot. He's a sensitive little guy.
Nice to know that he is perking up and getting better. Please keep us updated on his recovery.

Chip's poop is almost back to normal. It's darker colored than normal, but most of it was hard and there were spots that were soft. Adam and I have been pumping him with pepto and took away his food for about 24 hours. Right now instead of sleeping by my feet like yesterday, he's laying there on my feet chewing on a bone. He's back to normal! YAY!
I was so excited about it that I called my close friend Jessica and she was like... "You called me to inform me about the consistency of dog crap?!" I was laughing so hard when she said that lol
